I had picked up a June Taylor kit for mug rugs and made for Christmas gifts. I did not realize there were tote kits. I will have to check this out. Yours is so nice

This tote is great! And the Folklore fabric looks amazing. I haven't been so sure of this line until now. The others have matched it to where I didn't prefer it. Glad I watched. You do such a great job!

They both came out great! Watching the type of sewing that you do, may I suggest using an edge stitch foot? I purchased one when I bought my Bernina over 20 years ago, and it is one of my most used feet. It can’t be beat for top stitching evenly. It’s also great for stitching in the ditch.

Is that the foot that kind of has a grove on the bottom?

No. It has a sorta blade in the center to guide the fabric. You adjust the needle position on your machine and you can get very close to the edge you are topstitching. Check Amazon for “Bernina edge stitch foot” to see what it looks like. It’s about $40, which is about what I paid at a Bernina dealer. Worth every penny! (And I’m frugal). It gives an even, professional, finish to your projects. I use it for craft AND garment sewing.

Oh. And about binding the raw edges of the bag...I made the MSQC zipper bags for two of my granddaughters, and bound the inside edges with tricot knit seam binding (that I had on hand, leftover from making my daughter’s wedding gown...26 YEARS AGO!) But they were not quilted. I’m making the zipper bags for my other two grandgirls, but I AM quilting them. I’ll let you know if the tricot binding works. The neat thing about this product is that you gently pull on it and it curls around the seam that you’re binding. No pinning...very quick & easy.

I always use a quilting needle. I think they are 75/11

I would like to add pockets to my tote. Do you think it possible to sew the lining in separately so pockets could be added to it and then just sew the lining to the outside at the top of the bag with the binding? That would also enclose all the seams so they don't show. Fun lining you chose!

I think so. I have quilted the strips onto just batting before. If you have some woven interfacing you my want to add it to your lining fabric for a little more stability.

If you added extra fabric to the lining edges, could you do a French seam to hide the raw edges? If so, how much extra fabric would you want to add to the lining? Thanks!

The lining is quilted to the front of the bag before assembling the tote so you can’t increase the size of the lining by itself. I think you could still sew a French seam you would just have a slightly smaller bag.

Thank you. I think I might try a self-binding, folding the backing over the raw edges to create the binding.

I was thinking that might be an option! I did wonder if it would be difficult to bind after. Because of all the layers at the seam. Have you tried it?

@@sewbeitquilts I have bound the seams on project bags and I like the look. Not hard. You just can’t go wrong with folk tale fabric. Love your videos.
