I’ve been watching your videos since the first stormtrooper vid for IA. You got me into mini painting. You’ve outdone yourself here, sir. The spectrum and blend of blue alone left my jaw on the floor. The NMM motivated me to get my ass into my hobby room and once again chase greatness.
I have watched and painted all my mcp models while watching your videos and this is the 1st time that I don't want to paint my model because it will never be like this...hats off ( as I bow and continuously say I'm not worthy)
Hi! I could do; I feel that I've established an aesthetic with this series that I'd like to remain consistent with (which is already a somewhat stylised, semi-comic-like style anyway), but I could potentially go full-on comic-book style for a future series perhaps.. :)
Hey! Before anything, I want to thank you for driving me to this awesome hobby (at least for me)! Started after watching some of your early vids :) Anyway, just recently noticed that you haven't painted de Zombicide: Black Plague - Wulfsburg! Would love to see your interpretation of the wolfz and the wolfabomination! Keep the awesomeness!
I definitely think this is the next mini game for me. Clean, awesome minis that are great for display, smooth playing mechanics, popular IP, yeah this game has it all.
Playing catch-up with moving house, an a few bereavements in the latter parts of 2020. Wonderful work as always. The gold blending is amazing. Only just finished decorating the house, so modelling station is underway. Big binge watch of your vids. Have Fun. An Happy 2021 to you!
Mate - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss(es). What a year it's been eh? Congratulations on the house move though - I hope you get settled in and ready to paint soon! :) All the best to you and yours :)
Ha ha! Yes - I was in the final stages of editing when you signed up, so I just about managed to add you to the credits. Thank you so much for your kind support; I couldn't do this without you guys 🙂
Sorastro, have you ever tried mixing in a little of a complementary color into the deepest shadows? If so, how did it go? Many painters did this back in the day. So adding red to shadows on a green object for example. If anyone could pull it off on a miniature it’s you. Love your work! 😁
Thanks a lot! Yes, I sometimes use "complimentary contrast" to create interest, although usually in quite subtle ways. You'll notice that for Thanos' armour for example I use some purple in the shadows to compliment the largely yellowish tone of the mid tones and highlights.. 🙂
Will you be making a painting tutorial for the barc speeder from sw legion? And when the arc trooper unit expansion comes out, could you make a painting tutorial for the different battlefront 2 skins, those are awsome.
Hi Mike! Yes, I actually finished my video for the BARC Speeder a while back; I'm just waiting for it to pass licensing approval before I can release it. My next two videos for Legion will actually be for Anakin and for Clan Wren.. 😀
I struggle when highlighting up areas that have panel lines running through it. I previously spent time darkening those lines, so when I highlight around the line it doesn't look like a natural highlight. But when I highlight over the panel lines, I get rid of the shading I created with it.
This series has been amazing so far. I'd love a chance to check this game out once they get Silver Surfer. However, my inner comic book nerd is raging that you painted the gems the wrong colors. You went for more of an MCU coloration, which I guess is ok. But damnit, the Soul Gem is green!
Awesome job! I've been in the mood to paint some dedicated NMM again, but nothing I'm working on calls for it. =( I'm a big fan of playing with light reflection patterns and sketching in my light plan to build up from, so this resonates with me. Keep 'em coming!
Hi James! I actually made a PDF guide for Spidey a while ago, but there will be many more videos to come.. 😀 sorastro.com/2020/02/01/spider-man-pdf-painting-guide/
Thank you! Well, I kind of show the process in the video; for the more blended areas (the blue outfit basically) it's really about lightening the tone gradually then highlighting up covering ever-decreasing areas. Sometimes if I notice a harsh transition I might brush a thinned intermediate tone over the border to soften things out, or brush the highlight tone thinned down over the border into the direction of the highlight - once again just to smooth things out. :)
I'm picking up the core set soon and wondering if the army painter/ citadel paint starter set and regiment brush would be enough of if I should get separate paints?
Always outdoing yourself & pushing new boundaries; inspiring! Thanks for meticulously sharing your approach, even your patron .pdf's are easy to follow and comprehensive. So curious if you've painted your range rulers & any of the included core-box scenery?
Thank you so much Dorian! I have painted my range rulers, and I'm half way through painting the coffee stand for my new park-themed tile. I'll share some pics once it's finished :)
Thank you! I wouldn't personally classify Scalecolor or Vallejo as obscure however, as they're two of the biggest hobby paint manufacturers in the world..! :)
@@Sorastro I should rephrase that! In my town in Canada specifically they aren't widely available, we have to rely on Citadel :( Any plans on painting up a battle droid tank for Legion? :D
Dear Sorastro, outstanding workmanship and an excellent tutorial! I do hope that you and your Family are keeping well? Please would it be possible to have some more Star Wars Legion tutorials in the future? Kind Regards Johnny
Thank you sir! Yes we're all keeping well thanks! Regarding Star Wars Legion, I will soon be releasing the BARC Speeder episode (as soon as it passes licensing approval), and will be producing a video for the newly-announced Anakin in the next week or so, to be followed with an episode for Clan Wren. I'm also planning to cover some other Legion minis as PDFs too.. 😀
Super video. Can I ask? Is there a reason you dont paint warhammer figures? Or have you and i just missed it? Just love your work and recently bought a Necron army.
Thanks Kevin! I used to paint Warhammer (Fantasy Battle, and 40K when it first launched 33 years ago!) but I'm just not drawn to it these days, and I only paint figures from games that I'm actually excited about playing. :)
Well, I painted as a kid quite a bit - mostly Warhammer FB then 40k (so around 35 years ago). Then shifted to 2D art at college, and returned to mini painting around 10 years ago. 🙂

Hi! I think the quality of the MCP minis is outstanding. They're made with a nice hard plastic with lots of detail, and I've found the mold lines to be mostly quite minimal. Some of the models do come with some very tiny parts which irks some people, but I'm ok with really. 🙂
Thank you Florian! I'm honestly not sure as I tend to lose track of time when I'm in "The Zone", but I'm certainly enjoying taking my time with these minis. 😁
Can you explain what zenithol priming does for the mini? I've been doing it for a lot of my recent works, and I haven't noticed too drastic of a difference. Is it just so we can take a picture and check it for highlights>
Hi! I personally like to apply zenithal highlights partly - yes - to get a nice tonal "map" to refer to, but it also makes it much easier to achieve bright base tones whilst retaining naturally-dark recesses and areas of shadow (such as the eye area for example in this case). You could certainly achieve a nice paint job without the zenithal highlights; I just find they make it a bit easier to get there. 🙂
Thanks a lot! I could probably spend anywhere between 10 minutes to 10 hours depending what level I'm shooting for. I'm certainly taking my time the MCP minis though 😁
@@Sorastro Thanks a lot for the answer! Quality over quantity! I reckon speed comes with practice and skill. The more you paint the better the paintjob and the faster you achieve it, perhaps. Great stuff, even got me thinking to buy one MCP box and paint it instead of Warhammer.
Well, I think it's useful to be clear in your mind about what standard you're aiming for and how much time you're willing to invest. I sometimes paint quite quickly to achieve an OK table top standard. But there's nothing quick about the way I'm painting the M:CP minis for sure. 😁
@@Sorastro... and so you just answered my question, if there will be a new album. Great! Really looking forward to it 😁 Do you already can tell when It will be released?
@@Bushcraftranger Hi! Provided I can find a couple of days to edit the tracks this month and pay to have them mastered, the digital publishing process then usually takes a month or so, so my best guess would be January. 🙂
I don't like your channel at all man! I mean who makes such intoxicating videos and just leaves us to dry for weeks!? Jokes aside, you are awesome man :D More Crisis protocol characters soon? :D
Ha ha - thanks a lot Aleksandar! There are so many MCP minis that I'm dying to cover; I'm just taking a short break from them to allow me to tend to some of my other series (LOTR, SW Legion, and KDM), but will be back with more as soon as I can. In the mean time I'll still be getting my MCP "fix" by continuing to cover some of the minis as PDF guides over on my website (such as this one for Green Goblin: sorastro.com/2020/09/16/2735/ ) Thanks for your patience! :)
