One of the benefits of having a MacMini versus a PC is that all of Apple's software is so nicely integrated. I can use my iPad in conjunction with my Mini. I know there are Windows equivalent apps out there but I've dealt with stuff like that years ago. This little PC is one that I would consider for friends who on't want to do Apple.

How about this Geekom vs the M2 Pro?

Sorry, but the two USB-A ports on the backside of the Mac mini are 10Gbit! Not USB2. Besides it depends, what you want to do with a mini PC. The primary reason to buy a Mac should be the software you want to use. 2.5 times as fast, not 2.5 times faster.... 2.25 times the powerdraw longterm and 3 times the powerdraw in the boost window. It's a powersupply, not a charger..... Too many mistakes in a single video.

USB4 is not necessarily equal to thunderbolt (otherwise it would be advertised heavily to be). USB4 starts with 20gbps, half of thunderbolt 4. Big difference. USB4 is essentially thunderbolt 2 or worse than thunderbolt 2 due to its criteria as well as ambiguous bandwidth expectations (welcome to the world of USB standards - can't name anything for the life of them). USB4 also only requires a power delivery of 7.5W, so not enough to charge phones satisfactorily let alone laptops. If possible, could you please identify the actual bandwidth of the usb4 port. Also, macs have really good hardware reliability (best out of the top 4 manufacturers - third party with real purchase data used), which ofc gives peace of mind regarding your data but also means that the second hand market is even better than it already is for apple products. I bought an m1 mac mini for £350. That's incredible. Then there is the power efficiency and I'm going to ignore the other smaller things which matter a lot such as fan noise, resale value, ethernet or wifi standard and gain/power, bluetooth efficiency, power, standard and the external power pack which let's face it, isn't ideal. Still a great product and I fully support the company if you do. It looks like a great product and I haven't researched it much so I'm not here to review, compare or criticise anything. Just here to provide points and information to consider. Just painting the picture.

Thanks for comparison. However, most people will have already chosen their platform (MacOS, Windows, Linux). Thus these items are almost NEVER in competition with each other. This comparison is more about showing us the state of the hardware. You minimize the power draw issue, which translates into heat/noise. I think that this matters to many users. I like that the Geekom product is upgradable. However, stats show that most users/companies NEVER upgrade their hardware. I am not sure how much people care that the Geekom is smaller. At some point device is just sitting in the corner of the desk. I think that the support for multiple displays is a big advantage for Geekom. Anyway, thanks for the comparison...

The 2 USB on the mac mini are NOT 2.0 but 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps).

The single core Geekbench score you have on the M2 is NOT correct. It's 2600-2700.

I am afraid when it is about Davinci Resolve the only choice is the Mac Mini or rather the Mac Studio, but of the GPU. To me the Geekom version wouldn`t be a wise choice for advance editing. :(

Hey just wanted to let you folks in the comments know that the mac is actually cheaper, he used the 1 gig Ethernet 8 core mac which is 700$ USD where as the one he showed was not the one he bought, this was not a valid test. if your going to bash on mac fanboys how about you don't lie in testing

Do you think AV1 encode and decode on the 780M will make the A7 more future proof than the M2 as AV1 begins to replace H264 and HEVC more and more in the industry. At least for entry level 4K video editing like simple cuts and transitions. If you work with professional codecs Apple media engine is probably better.

I think there is error on Blende rendering test. If those numbers are secconds, then lower should be better and then mac wins them all.

MacBooks are great laptops, but non-Apple mini-PCs are better for most people. For mini-PCs using Windows/Linux: - Adjustable RAM and SSD. - Smaller. Leading to more space on a desk. - Can game at 1080p on them, especially with AMD Radeon iGPU 780M - Good to great CPU performance. Mac minis are better for advance video editing and DJ work.

Got a Mac mini and a Mini PC, they feel totally different. 920 Euros: My Mac mini M2, sitting on a vertical stand that contains an NVME slot. So the specs are 256GB + 1TB Crucial P5 and 16GB RAM. This beast is silent. 547 Euros: My Mini PC Barebone with Ryzen 7 7840HS and Kingston Fury 32GB RAM + Crucial P5 500GB. It looks cool (made a RU-vid short), has a 90mm Fan which is not whiny but far from silent.

I've jumped ship back to PC from the Mac Mini M1. Tired of how Apple continually locks down it's hardware and presents no upgradability path. I just purchased the Minis Forum UM790-Pro with my following configuration: Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU, 32 Gb (5600) ram, and a 1 Gb NVME. I like it bettter then the Geekom A7 because it incorporates two NVME slots and can do 8K at 60hz whereas the Geekom A7 only does 8K at 30Hz. Otherwise, the included ports are the same. The UM790-Pro can also do raid 0 and 1. I'm not a gamer and there's no way I'm going back to building a mid tower PC anymore. These newer mini PC's are powerhouses and the future! Asta La Vista Apple!

For me it comes down to the OS, I prefer Mac OS way more than Windows so this comparison means nothing to me. I have the first M1 chip Mac Mini and I'm really happy with it. I'm going to upgrade soon to the M2 chip. It was definitely interesting to watch your video but not a Mac Mini killer.

In most of the laptop vs macbook comparison video Macbook wins because of that efficient m3 processor which usage less power than any processor. But when power is not an issue than no way mac type device gonna win

I'm not the only one to mention this in comments but I think there are a few other mini PCs that could make the case against the Mac Mini even more strongly based and the smallest step from what you review here I think would be one based on the Ryzen 7940HS and with twin M2 slots e.g. the Minisforum UM790 Pro. The 7940HS would increase the performance difference a bit more but also critically with the absolutely massive price difference between a maximum spec Mac Mini and a barebones UM790 Pro a user could spend a lot of money on his/her RAM spec and very big SSD storage across both of the M2 slots and still come in noticeably cheaper than the Mac Mini with way more RAM and secondary storage all in the much smaller chassis. Both Ryzen-based and Intel-based mini PCs are becoming pretty amazing beasts now.

And while you play such old games as LOL on any mac you struggle to understand where is the promissed power.

It's insane, you can upgrade the mini pc, but the Mac mini is DOA. Once ONE PIECE FAILS, IT'S DONE.

Only problem is that it runs windows. I sold a MacBook Pro and Surface Pro at the same time. Took 30 minutes to wipe a reinstall OS, took 4 hours on the Surface with Windows. No thanks. Oh, I still have a Windows machine but I can’t say it’s better.

Mac Minis are very popular with voice artists as they are so quiet under the slight loads audio capture generally runs at. How does the A7 compare on noise, both idle and under load? You mentioned it was louder. The external PSU should help.

well since 90% of people just send email and browse the internet who cares about all those benchmarks. If you are interested in Photoshop as a job, you should go with the larger Mac Pro models. I really do not understand the need to make things smaller anymore and I think the Mac Mini is already too small and would be more flexible in a bigger chassis. The old pizza box size were nice back in the 1990s.

An external power supply makes sense, but you really should have shown the Geekom _with_ the power supply. You can get Mac minis discounted and macOS comes with 80+ office, productivity, creative and utility Apps and they are mostly very good. What support and corporate longevity are you going to get with the Geekom? You could do more to make this an equal comparison, but Apple is going to cost more for the hardware, compensated for by being ready to use out of the box with no expensive rentware like with the PC.

The day someone makes a "mini" x86 PC twice the size, to accommodate much greater dissipation, with a 12cm fan or more... easily replaceable and configurable from 0 to max low speed according to temperature profiles. That day I will buy the first one, as a desktop PC. For me “silence” is very important. I have switched to Linux and left behind the tyranny and whims of the largest corporations in the computing world in power. So I would also care about its compatibility.

As someone that uses a mac for work and windows at home, I cannot understand why anyone would get the M2. Even if it was as powerful, you still have to use MacOS. That alone is a deal breaker for me.

IMHO I do believe that the pair Mac mini/Mac OS is still unbeatable in the real world for stability, premium materials, and effectiveness, excepting for serious games area where I still would prefer to buy a console rather than fighting for the last powerful video board and processor ...cooling equipment and power consumption as well. Yet I understand that passion is passion and so it is always a good thing for everyone... as well as the competition is always a good piece of news for all users ..

The smaller true mini is a sign that it needs mini optical disc or standard optical disc usb a or c like just like the Mac mini which it was usually cubed with cd optical rom thing. Although the real small mini should be using windows 11 or (12 coming soon but not 7 since Microsoft ceased that os life span)

Are the two computers configured equally? Geekom appears to be a startup company located in Taiwan (at least their R&D is there; not certain where products are manufactured; I assume in Taiwan). At least they are not located in China (CCP). So perhaps there is no concern about “spyware”. I’m invested in Apple and will probably stay with them even though I’m dissatisfied with the number of ports they offer on their products these days.

The Mac mini has to be large, made of metal and silver to differentiate it from the Apple TV that actually contains almost exactly the same chip inside. The Apple TV would be a fantastic macOS machine but then Apple would totally wreck its pricing strategy. So the Mac mini has to be much bigger than it really needs to be while the Apple TV must be as small and light and as non-silver as at all possible. Which it is.

Apple could/should have dropped the M2 into an AppleTV case, the Mini is an oversized enclosure. M2 is a base-level chip, strange you didn't compare the M2 Pro Mini.

It's not that I'm not open minded. I hate how Apple is all locked down in the name of corporate profit. OTOH, Windows OS for me is so cumbersome and leaves a lot to be desired. I think someone is going to Hackingtosh the Geekom, I'm sure someone is working on that as I type. And then, one may have the best of both worlds.

These comparisons don't really mean anything. Because most people buying at this price level are not needing peak performance. They by Macs because of the OS & The Echo System and how all Apple Devices communicate and share with each other. Also PC's are not as secure, have more viruses, break easily (I'm look at two PC's right now on my living room floor that I have spend the last day and a half trying to fix. One was slowing down and literally making me couch being around it, so I decided to do a deep cleaning, and vacuumed it and use and air blower and also upgraded the memory and it won't boot, and I have built PC before. The other one I have no Idea why it's not booting. The amount of hours have spent fixing or trying to fix PC problems and dead PC's I cold have bought several Macs if I was being paid for my time. PC have cost me massive down time. Macs are not immortal, I have a 2010 Apple laptop that won't start I have a couple of PC laptops that also won't, old computer just die. The Batteries die, the parts go bad. But with Apple you won't dick around with it wasting hours & hours trouble shooting. You get the Yearly Apple Care and have it fixed or buy a new one. To me my time is the most valuable thing, and trouble shooting and fixing PCs is stressful and time consuming if it's not what you do for living. I like to have both Macs and PCs but I seriously considering switching to Mac because they are more secure and unlike PC where all of the parts come from different manufactures most of the time. Most of Apples parts are made just for that Apple Device and to work with the Mac OS, and Apple are control freaks about security. Also Apples products are less toxic and that does matter when you working next to a computer 10+ hours a day. They are just better built computers it's like a BMW vs a Ford or in some cases a Kit Car someone is modding. There is also something about the style of the product & OS that feels so much more organized with Apple computers. And say this as a 30 year PC user that was never crazy about Macs due to the lack of a upgrade path & High Prices. Get a Mac, Back it up daily and if it dies get another one or that one fixed and restore and get back to work quickly. In fact once when I had my PC repaired after spending a day or so trying to fix it myself, the guy at the shop told me "If you want less hassle just get a Mac." PS: This PC is way too small TBH. Not enough ports. I'm probably going to get a Mac Mini M2 Pro so I can run 3 monitors and use Mac OS as it's more secure, has less hacks, malware & viruses. But I'm also looking for a small PC also to have around but this is too small not enough dedicated display ports and I'd prefer and integrated powersupply. Also The Mac comes with a lot of software that the PC won't. On the PC you'll have to buy MS Office or get some open source knock off. BTW at my last job they had piles of PCs they killed rendering graphics. The just don't last and have a lot of problems.

So I just want to check in for clarification- Why wasn't this compared to the M2 mini with 16 gb Ram 512 gb storage (non pro version) at 999$? I feel like the performance deficit would not have been so bad there, comparing 16gb of ram to 32- instead of 8 - 32 And I feel like jumping to Storage all the way to 2TB to increase the price diff was a little cheap shot lol. There are of course cheaper 2 TB external storage that most would get that would not shoot the price that high. It still makes the mac cost more but a much better comparison. Not to mention at B&H you could get the M2 pro with 10 core cpu- 16 core gpu with 512 of storage for only 1,149$- again it is more than 899 with 2tb of storage but the performance jumps significantly there. You might wait save 250 and then get that- If one really wanted a mac mini with 16gb of ram- just a thought.

Windows devices will always be better in general and definitely for the money for 95% of people in common tasks. Apple is better in a few specialized tasks but has a hardware and software walled garden where they overcharge for everything.
