"Sensui" is the surname and is also the name used to identify the "system" - the "person" that all seven personalities make. "Shinobu" is the first name and is also the name of the original personality/alter that was born first, and the only personality/alter that was in the body until The Feast of Human Vices. Up until now, we've mainly been seeing the body with Minoru in control, who is the manipulator and the most charismatic of the personalities.

That silent switch into shinobu is the most terrifying part in the arc. The struggle to keep control with him saying “I can take him!” Is the best

“I’m Shinobu, nice to meet you.” I love that scene, especially in the manga. And funny Koenma is great, but I really like seeing mature/serious Koenma as well. You can really tell how mentally broken Sensui is by that laugh at the end, he’s a great villain.

If its not clear, Minoru was the personality in control from the beginning of the Chapter Black Saga as hinted when Kazuya said "Minoru is a bit to chatty" in the previous episode. Meaning the "manipulator"(11:29) was Minoru and not Shinobu.

My god. Yusuke punching the crap out of Koenma and reveling in the act is completely on brand.

I disagree with the brothers that Yusuke doesn't have the motivations to take the pacifier. The motivation is absolutely there for Yusuke. He's focused on handling his fight and feels his job as Spirit Detective is what makes him worthwhile ("The only thing I've ever been good at"). He sees it as his responsibility and he doesn't want to give up, and he certainly doesn't want to be saved by Koenma. I wish the brothers would spend more time unpacking Yusuke's characterization. I understand that Sensui has a more complex perspective but the simplicities and subtleties behind Yusuke's worldview are so worth noticing and discussing. He's not your average Shounen protag.

Kasuya is the personality that takes the blame for each of Sensui's murderous act. Hence, why Shinobu is the most pure in Sensui's fractured mind.

You havent seen Shinobu yet before now. Minoru the Manipulator was in control up until Kazuya the Ruffian took over.

Back in the day and being a child watching this part of the story, my assumption was that Koenma would be fighting Sensui but it wouldn't be enough and he'd lose but, before he could get killed like Genkai was against Toguro, Yusuke would actually get his power combined with the Mafuukan to do the trick. Kinda like a parallel with the arc before this one, Yusuke being able to stop the kill in this case. xD But they were the theories of a child and things went entirely different from what I expected.

They are *all* Sensui. Sensui is his surname. Shinobu is the main personality.

The seven graves thing is a japanese superstition thing. When someone curses another person to die, they also seal their own fate as a fee. Same deal with Sensui and his 7 personalities cursing humanity to die; he knows he's sealing his fate by doing this but he's absolutely set on doing it.

Shinobu is essentially the original spirit detective. Sensui is his surname so the personalities that Yusuke was interacting with, none of them were THE Shinobu Sensui, spirit detective. They were simply other parts of Sensui's personalities.

Oh getting close to the thing that happens. Looking forward to that reaction.

If Yusuke were any less of a badass, he'd just ask Shinobu to get back in immediately after having his arm broken like a twig and being styled on with that much disrespect, all in the time it took the guy to give him a greeting.

Hm, l first time I saw this I didn’t see the parallel to the evil containment spell from Dragon Ball. Sensui is a threat akin to Demon King Piccolo.
