Great analysis of Duck's playing. I've been focusing on his style lately and he really was the foundation of the songs he played on.

Just viewed this coming off the back of your Soul, RnB and Motown book. Anyone just finding this video and loves this style of music, I highly endorse Dan’s book. Someone else on here said these videos save 3-6 month of practice, I agree, there is so much more material one can take from these lessons and the books to emerge yourself in. Personally, my bass playing has, since subscribing to Dan’s channel has reached a level that has even surprised me. Dan Soul Man Hawkins...amazing bassist, brilliant teacher, star, and a true legend.

Online Bass Courses I hope you do. These videos are helpful to me, I’ve been studying theory for a couple of years and I have a fair understanding of scales and different modes, how they are constructed and the different flavours etc but not many people showing how to get a nice groove and putting things into practice.

@@OnlineBassCourses There couldnt have been a better time for this lesson, this healing! I have a request for you! Could you do a lesson on 6/8 (12/8) rhythms. Like afro Cuban and west African music! Also some Charles Bradley Basslines, like "Can't Stop The Feeling." Nick Movshon is the bassist, he also plays with Dan Auerbach, lead singer and lead guitar of the Bkack Keys! Thank you again!

Jamerson was rooted in jazz where Dunn was rooted in blues. That’s why James rarely repeats and Duck stays home…

Very kind. Thanks very much. This has James Jamerson La Bella flats on. It's a 1968 P bass which just has 'that' tone. This is going through an Apogee Duet 2 with no processing whatsoever.

Hey there! I would like to learn bass. What type of bass would you recommend tone and budget wise for soul/funk? Also, I’m left handed
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses 3 года назад
Great choice of instrument! Honestly, I’d advise going into a shop and trying what they have there. There are so many good makes. For soul, Fender Precision or similar. Most of the original funk bass players used Fender Jazz type basses. Try a few and see what feels good in your hands. Jazz basses tend to have more manageable and playable necks.

@@boimesa8190 Pickups from 1968 - sound dark. Old flatwound strings (LaBellas) - sound dark. Can't remember what I used going into Logic. Could have been a B15 amp sim. Also, maybe the tone was rolled off - I can't remember what I had for breakfast let alone the precise settings I used on a random video 16 months ago! 😂

@@OnlineBassCourses Ok I get that... but in general I'm having alot of trouble with my bass tone... Mine is VERY stringy and I hear almost no string noise/buzz... When I play with my pick ups or with EQ it just gets too subby, there's just ZERO mids... So I'm really looking to find more of a warm mid range tone like yours here :(
