i find it ironic how its specifically this song thats associated with crona. salve maria, a song about the virgin mary of christianity, who is a symbol of purity and innocence. she is also a symbol of obedience, specifically to god. both crona and mary were obedient servents who were innocent and pure, but marys obedience made her holy while cronas tainted and corrupted them. and only by being defiant and rejecting their mother are they "saved". not necessarily innocent anymore, theres no going back from taking many many lives, but yea. just thought it was an interesting parallel
That's not what this song is about. Salve Maria's lyrics are a prayer for forgiveness as they are about to die. A prayer asking Mary to forgive their many sins so they may go to heaven. It is also not a traditional Christian prayer

Soul eater is full of parallels like this, im looking for someone to make an in-depth analysis, becouse this show is screaming with hidden meaning. Dual meaning, irony, no pure dichotomy (even thou if show try to imply there is "good" and "bad" guys, those "good" guys are very wierd), names of characters Like Ragnarok (demonic sword named after "Dawn of gods") and much more.

I relate to Crona so much, they went through hell, all because of their mother (but in my case, its my stepmother). I play this song in my head when i'm sad, like Crona said, "Do you know where the true hell is? It's inside your head."

this song reminds me of a weeping maiden in an empty and barren field, moonlight washed over them as they sing their woes to their only companion, the moon. it captures cronas feel very well. the womans voice just paints a picture of cronas face perfectly, the droopy, wide, and afraid eyes. the strained frown. their body language that screams "dont touch me". i just love this song and crona
it also reminds me of tainted innocence. a white puppet thats forced to slowly saunter into a lake of black paint, then left to rot, unsure of who they are or what to do

"do you know where hell is? inside your head." i first watched this show when i was really young. probably in like the 3rd or 4th grade. back then i was dealing with so much stuff no one should have to deal with. especially not a child. this line made me think but i eventually came up with an answer "well thats just plain stupid. hell is outside where all the people are." this conclusion was of course, incorrect. hell *IS* inside your head. the people and things around you might influence or even cause the way you feel, sure. but when you get right down to it, all your sadness, all your pain is created by you and you alone. you can either cope with your pain, move on and be try to be happier or drown in this pool of despair you've created for yourself as you grow accustomed to this personal hell of yours. just something to think about.

When I heard this song for the first time clearly I immediately thought about the Virgin Mary it’s saying the verse to the letter and very clearly.
This whole song is just a reference to the “Hail Mary” prayer from Christianity (it simply being in Latin). I personally saw this song as Crona giving his praise to his mother, Medusa, just like the prayer gives praise to Mother Mary. Ik that sounds weird at first, but when you consider that Crona didn’t realize he was being mistreated my Medusa until later in the series, it would make sense that he’d view Meduas as a perfect motherly figure.
I don't understand why but every single day I have to listen too this on loop for like at least an hour. I don’t know why but this makes me question everything. My existence, everything’s existence. The cruelty of the world that makes you feel lost in your life drowning in an endless pool of questions. The true feeling of madness. You know nothing, your brain overflowing with delusional thoughts as you wonder why you are still in one piece. You question your emotions and you don’t know why you cry or why you feel sad. With an endless pool of hell inside your mind forever unless you move on. If you stay with it you will only wilt like a dead flower instead of growing or blooming like a healthy one.
Three years later wow I remember the nights I spent in my parents bathroom just in the dark wondering why. All I could think about is how confused I was. Now jump cut to the present im homeless, low-key highkey a drug addicted. But now I have true love. But even than thats not enough to fix the holes in my heart left over from those days. man i always loved crona the deeper meaning behind his character and how even when the person i hold the most love for wrongs you you will still strive for their love and approval. especially in the manga as crona falls deeper just to feel some type of love from his own mother knowing the sins he’s committing wanting to stop but feeling like it’s too late drowning in the madness MANGA SPOILERS eventually even ending the one thing he wanted the most killing him inside even more doing exactly as his mother wanted into the end

Crona is such a beautifully tragic character. They try so hard to be good but they fail so much and only hurt people. They deserved so much better in the end. But in the end I prefer the manga battle between maka and crona than the anime because it’s kinda watered down

Crona is gendered there, because when they translated it, they didn't want to use it/it's pronouns as they feared it would be offensive. But the Japanese version uses gender neutral pronouns.
