They hitting the Robot, Voguing, Popping locking Breaking hitting splits, man these guys are KILLING IT. We can thank THIS for the evolution of modern dance..so so good..
noooooooooo wonder i dance like i do,,lol... watched this growing up and by golly gee,, oh wow,,, i still dance this way,,, hahahaha,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ooh well dont care, i have fun, dance like no one is watching ...Soul Train taught me to do it right,,,, tee-hee
I know what you mean. I'm 24yrs old and most of my peers are too prideful to let loose. I myself enjoy dancing like this. going to the 80s bar for a nice date, It soo much fun and my partner loves it.
Umm . . . watch this again. A lot of these men were fruits. If a man is a really good dancer he's probably gay. Now I can move like a brick on the dance floor and fail to impress you with my less than elegant moves or we could just skip embarrassing us both and head to the bedroom where how we move doesn't need to be pretty.
Michael Jackson is probably the only performer that could make people from the 70's; 80's up to 2016 dance. The guy was a rare star. A true artist and the kind of talent that you probably see once every century. RIP King of pop. You are probably making those angels dance with you.
agree 1000%!!! to also be a child singer and keep people liking you for forever...that's awesome :) i still love all his music, all the way to j5's first single :)
...lol, was at a stoplight one day. Something glimmering caught my eye. 3 $100 bills were blowing in the wind. I never flipped an illegal u-turn so fast. Had a great day 🥰
I was thinking the same thing. Everyone is slim n healthy looking. The women are thin n very beautiful, n everyone seems to have a nice n pleasant attitude---- unlike today where to many people have opted for that so called ghetto n or gangster attitude.
And that makes me the 3rd person thinking the exact same thing! Wow, so it must be true. Black people had nice shapes back in the seventies, what happened? Most of them are fat now. What did they put in the food these days?
Man, I miss those days. Music was awesome and people loved each other See kids...this is when people went to clubs and had fun. It was about dancing and having a good time. And...hoping to get laid. Not 1 person beefing, getting pissed over stupid stuff and not a single firearm.
Lol maybe not my mom and dad graduated hs in 1976 and 1977 and went to clubs during this time and grew up watching soul train. I was born in 1998 😂 so I'm 19 lol my parents are so old. Compared to everyone else's parents. Both rocked afros back in the day
👍🏾I'm gonna throw in " P Y T" too.Soul Train dancers really got down on that one too back in the day! I was right there watching on the tube every Saturday morning! 😃
@@sbella6719 yes. My mama, who loved this show, lived to be 90. She ate nothing but soul food, no preservatives, no fast food, and no microwave. Not saying that’s the reason but could be.
I was only a young teen in the early 80s but it was quite a show --- I remember going to the local mall and it seemed like every woman was thin and sexy and dressed to impress --- I wish I coulda got a boner back then!
Ok, let me clarify something to those of you who don't know: Michael had 4 Number one hits in a row on his first album...he was 11 years old. He was nominated for an Oscar and performed on the Academy Awards show when he was about 13 years old. By the time he was 25 years old he was in the Stratosphere looking down on other artists who only could dream of being as talented, famous and loved by so many as he was! So there's no need to compare him to anyone else because simply....there is and never will be anyone who can compare to him! How's that!?
I thought Jabbawokkies were to the first group of Asians to prove they were better than black people.. You're telling me they were doing it back during the Reagan administration??
Absolutely EVERY PERSON who danced in the "Soul Train" line really knew how to dance!! I used to watch this show when I was young, anticipating the day it would come on TV.
UnidickOffical ! That is not Cheryl. By the early 80’s there was at least one other asian american lady that was a regular on the show. Don’t know her name but she did do the Scramble Board once. Also that dude is not Cheryl’s dance partner.
Ah, this brings back memories! I used to watch this show all the time on the weekends when I was a kid! But because I was WHITE in the 70’s...A lot of my friends and family thought I was weird for watching a show that was geared towards a predominantly black audience. That’s just the way things were back in those days I guess. But I never let that bother me. My argument was SO WHAT? What difference does it make what COLOR the audience is? You got good music, good dancing, good entertainment...WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
I always enjoyed Spul Train more than Solid Gold. You follow the good music no matter the color or creed! My dad raised us on Prince, the Commodores, Earth Wind & Fire AND Kenny Rogers, Bob Seger, The Eagles & Linda Ronstadt.
I live that era first disco party 1976 all those tunes great but not only that mixed with salsa of the era , I was 14 yrs sneek in bycicle left at buddies house and up we went no ipod no videos no MTV no cable those were the days, half the school was there and we were under age
Lmfaoo. You dumb dumb. Sexual themes been in music and dancing for decades before this or any era. Twerking didn't need to exist . Not to mention it's an African dance so basically your dumbass insulted your people
It ain't " twerking" . I don't know who came up with that name. It's called " rump shaking" which came along way before that era. Jujoints era. Them young black sisters back then use to " rump shake" dance. I think in the early 1930's era. We even called it " rump shaking" in the 90's. Galveston and Houston Texas.
@OlJimJam I don't know I've never been to strip clubs but I'm old school and have seen women not in strip clubs doing what y'all calling twerking.. It's said even far as the 40's,50's..
Um...this country couldn't find enough naturally slim and attractive people in that age range to do this show today. Our society is fat or riddled with fake parts aka plastic surgery. Age has nothing to do with this either, obese starts at age 2 now and kids get plastic surgery as presents from their parents. This type of health we see in these videos no longer exists as it is mental health/wellness todays society lacks as well.
M Styles - wrong, wrong, wrong. Age has everything to do with it. Some of these dancers are semi-professional dancers selected to make the Soul Train dance sphere attractive and entertaining. These people are no more representative of average blacks at that time than a Miss America pageant is representative of women at any given time. These people are young and in their physical prime 18-24yrs old. There are obese people in this country, but there are also plenty of slim fit people too. Most high school and college age girls are very body conscious. It all depends on what community you're in. Middle and upper middle class black females are going to be fit and slim.
Um ok...I am a professional bodybuilder and was a professional soccer player in my youth. The best shape people I know and see are ALL OVER THE AGE OF 40. But I am sure you know better. And to tell me obesity is not an issue lolololol open your eyes and stop making this sh*t a race issue. Get over it. And tell me this is not about mental health as well lolololo wake up. I am SO SICK of RACE being brought into EVERYTHING. This is BEYOND RACE, stop being such a bigot.
M Styles - apparently I do know better. I agreed that obesity is an issue in this country, but I'm able to put things into the proper perspective. You said the people, in your experience, that are in the best shape are all over the age of 40. That sounds biased and is almost certainly a misperception of reality probably based largely on the people that you associate with at this point in your life. Physical fitness, health, and weight, are primarily the result of 4 main factors; genetics, age, diet, and level of physical activity. 1. Genetics - our individual genetic coding determines our individual default metabolism. And even though physical activity and diet (including medications both legal and illegal) can "disturb" or disrupt our natural metabolism it is a natural phenomenon as old as the human animal itself that metabolism is more active and "aggressive" when we are born and in our youthful years to support growth and development and naturally slows as we age. 2. Diet - we are not necessarily what we eat. As mentioned above diet affects our health and physical fitness, but doesn't determine it. The human body has the remarkable ability to synthesize some of what it doesn't get naturally. So even though you may not eat a healthy diet you can still end up being a healthy person. 3. Physical activity - of course the more physically active you are, the healthier you will be. 4. Age - The human animal, like all living organisms goes through a natural cycle of life. People are not born with grey hair, bad knees, and wrinkles. That's a result of the aging process. As for the race, bigot comment, I'm not sure you understand what a bigot is. The definition of a bigot is someone who is intolerant of the differences of others. Nothing I said suggested intolerance. The only reason I mentioned race at all is because Soul Train is very widely known to have been an African American television show with an African American host, featuring African American music artists, and minority studio dancers and guests. You should get your sensitivity in check. You shouldn't allow the mere mention of race to cause you to go the defense.
I agree with you 100%. Women definitely looked better back then! I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people remained natural…The way it was meant to be. Now you see women trying to look like men… And men trying to look like women… nobody even knows what the heck gender they are anymore!! 😂 I miss those old days when life was just a lot simpler.
Stephanie parker These people get free food stamps nowadays. My aunt was telling me that back in the 70's they had to pay for them! Plus those who get them now don't cook home made meals! They just load their TWO grocery carts down with microwaveable food along with several packages of cookies, ice cream, and loads of chips holding up grocery lines forever and then spend all day on the computers not exercising at all other than setting the microwave timer and that is why so many are fat and acquiring cancer and diabetes! Sad reality!
I think it has more to do with the way food is processed/injected with hormones and yes physical activity. I don't think it has much to do with weather it's free or not. There are plenty of fat people who PAY for every morsel of food they eat!!!! LOL
This is amazing!! Back when going to clubs were about dancing and having a great time with everyone, and not trying to be staunch and passive aggressive to people and looking at people weirdly because they're dancing!
+BohemianAsh True. I worked at a nightclub (under-age) as a glass collector in the early 80s. Everyone was dancing, forgetting the work week, laughing, flirting. It was great.
Born in 91 and a LOVE watching old videos like this, listening to old music, classics, even folk music. I love that old school vibe like diners, drive in theater, poetry slams and settings like The Den (from Moesha) where people listened to artist and had a good time and eat or when people dressed up to go to the club like Ella Fitzgerald or Vivian Green on stage. Ahh take back to those times.
I'm so glad you posted that. I'm nearing 60 and loved "Soul Train" back in the day. But that time can stand on its own merits. We don't need to add a put-down at the end.
No because the current one sucks by all standards. It's just unfortunately our reality. I'm sure that will change though. Hopefully people will demand a return to purity of spirit and not all this dark mess we have today.
I wish I was born during this period. Look at how free they express themselves. Nowadays when you dance like this ppl look at you like an idiot. "ultimate level of self expression"
I remember when I was really, really little....that was one of my first memories. The see through outfits. I remember a lady on a tv show was singing and she was wearing a bustier/bra and you could see through. My dad covered my eyes. Lol. Just a few years earlier and the pants were flared so wide and here it's skinny jeans and spandex. Love the lady in the beginning with the jeans and belted sweater.
If you can manage to tap into the joy of this video and spread all around inside yourself, you can heal yourself of anything. What a blessing to have this!
I will forever have the memories of watching this with my parents on Saturdays. I'll never forget the day I met Micheal Jackson while out shopping with my mama one morning, I was 5 and he waved at me 🥰... I can still see his Jerry curl and the glove. GOOD TIMES
The merc with a mouth Cause soul train is ended. Take that rose colored glasses off. You can take yourself back in time by turning on your favourite tune.
+The merc with a mouth ... It's true. We were happy. And we loved to dance. MTV had actual music videos and discos were at their height during this time. You could go to a club and feel like you were a star; the lights, the music, the outfits... and we learned the latest moves from Soul Train every Saturday afternoon. Good times. Good times.
