Lots of history with this joint for me. Takes me back to circa 1994 when I was at a house party in New York on Long Island and we had Hot 97 on the radio and this joint came on but with no introduction. I heard it and was instantly in love with it. For YEARS, I never forgot it and this is all before the days of the internet...I tried so hard to find that 'Taxi' song. Finally when Napster came into play, someone had uploaded it and there is when I was reunited with one of my favorite legit joints of all time.
I'm obsessed with seeing the comments to these old school hip-hop tunes. Every video has such a fun selection of comments. They're nostalgic, poetic, hopeless, soulful, wholesome, weird, funny... Esecially those who say they're introducing their kids to their loves. Its so, so fun to read. I love it

I love watching reruns of Taxi, the theme song and the image of a lonely cab ride in NYC always touches me. This SoM rendition of that melody takes it to another level.

People need to petition to clear the sample rights so this can be on streaming services. The original writer needs to understand this song is popular. He would have had such a huge cut for how much this was played. Glad it’s at least living on here.
Bruh- it already was popular. The original version by Bob James is legendary. When they finally figure it out, once they clear the sample, a lot of hands will come out for their cut of any money made, going forward.
I heard (original composer and performer) Bob James eventually approved it but the company that owns the rights to “Taxi” (the show for which the sample was the theme song) is still holding out.

Growing up watching the show Taxi I always enjoyed the intro then to see Bob James sample of Angela get on Souls album I almost lost it!! One of the best samples hands down

This is an amazing sound, I remember as a child I would actually watch the show this is sampled from Taxi. Really surprised they're from the West Coast, as this sound has a very East coast underground feel to it.

this sample doesn't loop unless you pitch shift it; but it is one of the most rewarding loops you can ever find. never gets old. I love it 40 years later as much as I did then
