As many times I listen to Lanegan, there is some new feeling tapped within my soul. His music will be with me til my last day, his music has helped through the many years of listening. "Whiskey for the Holy Ghost" is my Bible... One day the masses will understand the importance of his music...
I've said for a long time Mark Lanegan is the spiritual successor of Johnny Cash. It's a overworn expression, but he really does show in his music an illumination in a dark place much like Cash masterfully did. Regardless, this is one of my top songs of all time. Absolute brilliance.
Describing this song is difficult. The atmosphere is like walking through a dark forest with rays of light seeping through intermittently. It is simultaneously uplifting and introspective. One of the most brilliant songs I have ever heard.
Beautiful and very True words. I feel as fans of Mark Lanegan we are blessed. As you say ' One day the masses will understand the importance of his music.' So true. Peace to you and all Lanegan fans.
Mark had done this song before, but this is a more cleaned up version i'd say. This version adds a lot more to me, a more haunting quality. The video as some people already probably know, was shot after Katrina. Even as I type this, there is hurricane Ida hitting Louisiana. Every time I see that, I think of this song and video.
Lanegan is a legend. Top voice, also Soulsavers are a great band too. There latest album to me anyway, sounds very gospel type. Really enjoy listening to it.
Слушаю - и ощущение будто я родилась где-то, когда-то в какой-то дыре вчто в Канзасе или Айове - всё там осталось моё - жутко мрачно-величественное ощущение... великая песня, клип великий!
Unfortunately I've only seen Mark Lanegan with Queens Of The Stone Age but he was damn good singing the songs he does for them. Autopilot I love. All the Soulsavers material is great. Brilliant music and incredible vocals. Not many better emotive vocalists.
I think this music it´s on a 1994 Mark Lanegan´s CD. It´s the fourth track. I don´t know the name of the CD, but i listen to it almost everyday, it´s very ralaxing.
Are those halos in your hair or diamonds shining there Without a hope, without a prayer This rain beats down like death You turn your eyes to better men Before I go, I'm hanging a cross on a nail I hung one for you in there Girl, lay your shame to rest And hold the lies close to your breast You stoop to feed the crows Some scraps of truth already cold Before I go, I'm hanging a cross on a nail I hung one for you in there And every kingdom of rain comes pouring down 'Cause I loved you so long 'Cause I loved you so long Would you put halos in your hair Without a hope, without a prayer With lies close to your breast You finally lay your shame to rest Before I go, I'm hanging a cross on a nail I hung one for you in there And every kingdom of rain comes pouring down 'Cause I loved you so long 'Cause I loved you so long
Damn,I didn't think this song could get any darker but I was wrong. The story behind the song is pretty creepy. People should look it up,it would take too many words to say it here
