Austin Texas USA . Yes David Gahan still amazing voice carrying on the beautiful vibes! This could be a tribute to all of our fallen brothers. May they rise to see beauty reveal itself again.
Incredibly good song but lyrics are right. It ain't gonna last. However, only because freedom based on idol of (statue of) liberty is a false one. That idol was manufactured by those who want to enslave us, it just coudn't work. My Lord, my Master and my Saviour is all I need to stay free no matter what.
L Y R I C S Well, I got us on a highway, I got us in a car Got us going faster than we've ever gone before I got us on a highway, I got us in a car Got us going faster than we've ever gone before And I know it ain't gonna last And I know it ain't gonna last When I see your eyes arrive They explode like two bugs on glass Far above the ocean, deep under the sea There's a river running dry 'cause of you and me Far above the ocean, deep under the sea There's a river running dry 'cause of you and me And I know it ain't gonna last And I know it ain't gonna last When I see your eyes arrive They explode like two bugs on glass She's a goddess on a highway, a goddess in a car A goddess going faster than she's ever gone before She's a goddess on a highway, a goddess in a car A goddess going faster than she's ever gone before And I know it ain't gonna last And I know it ain't gonna last When I see your eyes arrive They explode like two bugs on glass And I know it ain't gonna last And I know it ain't gonna last And I know it ain't gonna last And I know it ain't gonna last It ain't gonna last It ain't gonna last It ain't gonna last It ain't gonna last
I was at Reading Festival 2002... Suffered my first proper heartbreak there... On the first day of the three day festival... Just before Mercury Rev came on... Who I think were the first band on stage that day... I was already in tears when they came on, and then they decided to play this song... "And I know it ain't gonna last"... I cried soooo very hard that weekend... Soooo very hard.
Well it’s done Mark, thanks for looking out for me. Honestly couldn’t have done it without you and I’m not gonna hold on to this pain forever. It was never my fault after all. Where are we to go from here but be true to ourselves? Hope you’re well in spirit.
At the time “Deserter’s Songs” was recorded, Mercury Rev believed it would be their last album and would recede into quiet thereafter, hence the lyric “And I know it ain’t gonna last”. Fortunately, “Deserter’s Songs” was a critical and commercial success and the band continued and made more great albums.
