Black and White Sections are with added noise!
A few years ago I discovered how noise spill in general can put energy and sparkle into recordings. On this example I'm using my condenser mics on my Zoom q8 camera pointing at and sitting between my two computer speakers.. nothing more than that. I record playback of the song doing this and then load it into Magix movie maker (any daw software). I sit the song track next to the finished "Clean" mix and then toggle between volumes of the two during playback until I find the sound to be energized but not spoilt by doing this. Here is a video example switching between the two sounds but I've been very subtle with the amount of dirty audio here but it is possible to drastically alter the tone and energy if needed. I suppose doing this is called a proximity effect? or something like that within DAW system production, I would imagine this is how mastering effects work to some degree.. simply adding bad sound quality to something. Back in the day before computer recording I wonder whether pointing condenser mics at tannoy speakers of a final mix in the studio would have been something they did, trick of the trade perhaps. Having said all that it feels wrong to be doing it to the sound but then you have to trust your ears. Either way its something else to consider within the never ending techniques of music recording.
And now I can't decide which version I want to upload (trust your ears rob) Yeah but my ears are old heavy metal ears!.
