Hey thanks a bunch, I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to watch them and comment on them. I'm working on getting it together, it always take a little be longer than expected to commercialize things especially with a newborn baby in the house. Thank you for the support!

Thank you Harry! We talk about it a bit in this video, but also put together this short - ru-vid.com8sIdC-9hhiE - this step helped a ton! Some others said they used SIKAFLEX 221 for this step with good results and it can be a little cheaper and uses a normal caulking gun FYI!

Hey @395WAGN thank you very much for taking the time to stop by and write this. We spend a lot of time putting these together and covering what we think are the important lessons learned and steps that we took to complete the project. So it’s great to hear that people like yourself find that valuable! Also thanks for the note on the video and audio as well. We’ve tried to improve that with each video as we learn more about this aspect of the process. Thanks again we really appreciate it!

Nice work on the damping (and video). Any chance you remember how much hybrid 3-1 you used all in? I think we're going the same approach for the headliner/ front floor / wheel wells?
@moonrakerdesign
@moonrakerdesign 3 месяца назад
Thank you! We used two boxes of the Hybrid for the headliner, front floor and doors. I think we might have just enough to finish the wheel wells too I think there are 6 sheets left over.

Great Video and explanations , love it !! , one question you used the 3M™ Self-Leveling Seam Sealer, PN 08307 between the roof and the roof bows , is this material flexible enough ? any reason why you did not pick 3M™ Noise, Vibration & Harshness Dampening Material, 04274? .... leaving in 2 weeks on a 5 week road trip and i would like to apply some material in the roof .... keep it up , please , Uli
@moonrakerdesign
@moonrakerdesign Год назад
Hey Uli! Thanks for stopping by! I actually used the 3M 08323 factory match seam sealer because I had some left over from the Flarespace install video! It’s also a urethane based adhesive with good elongation (390%) and great tensile strength (2515psi). I did come across 04274 in my research but couldn’t find enough differences between the two to justify ordering another tube of adhesive when I already had this. In fact 04274 doesn’t list any of the actual properties aside from the durometer in the TDS (45A) which is about the hardness of a rubber pencil eraser. I would say 08323 is considerably harder than this once it dries. I do like the fact that the work time is only 10 mins on the 08323 seam sealer vs the 60 mins on the NVH. It starts to set up pretty quick which can be less messy when you are fighting gravity on those roof skins. Honestly, I think either option will work for what you are trying to do with 04274 being the official recommendation from 3M. If I were starting from scratch I’d give it a try! Hope this helps.
@GlennLaguna
@GlennLaguna 2 месяца назад
@@moonrakerdesign Did you redo some of the NVH? In a Short video you made, you show using 04274
@moonrakerdesign
@moonrakerdesign 2 месяца назад
@@GlennLaguna I used both. The 08307 was great for the ceiling since it dries so much faster. The 04274 worked really well for some of the super large gaps on the walls since it can fill up to 1" space. Either works well IMO!

Awesomeness! Very clean. Love the foil tape I used another butyl product on my wheel wells and lower rear and it’s a mess. Put that on hold till I found a better approach. I want to do my sub floor soon. Is that vid coming out? Also for the ceiling I’m looking at a product called heat wave pro that is jute sandwiched between foil layers.
@moonrakerdesign
@moonrakerdesign 11 месяцев назад
Hey @omjaye! Thanks again for the encouragement! The foil tape really does help, we recently pulled up the front floor again for the audio install and everything was in perfect shape no butyl migration whatsoever! We are working towards the subfloor soon, we are still planning out the lower electrical cabinets and final layout which I'm still trying to decide if the floor will go under them or around them (cabinets mounted directly to the steel floor). It's hard to find the time between this project, our day jobs and all the other life stuff we have going on! I have not heard of the heat wave pro. I'll check that out! I was looking at the Duck Liner from TecVanLife for a bit. I'm definitely going to be putting on more layer on the roof before batt insulation goes up. Even with our light colored van a lot of heat is generated up there. Maybe that will be better longer term with a rack and solar though.
@omjaye
@omjaye 11 месяцев назад
@@moonrakerdesign Yea the butyl squeeze is a mess. I have paper over my wheel wells with painters tape as short term solution to keep it off me and my gear. For subfloor I plan to use the factory floor and 1 to 1.5" xps foam and possibly the green wood fiber 1/8" which is an excellent sound insulator. This would be floating with factory tie downs as my whole design is modular and bolt in for access if needed. Sealed wood supports under the edges and tie down points instead of foam. I'm curious if you plan to put anything on the steel floor? This is my only debate. Also plan to leave the channels open like the factory floor as this allows airflow. Right now I've built an entire mock up of cabinets and structure including bed as I'm using the van and figuring out what layout works best for me. Highly recommend the time to do mock ups and get a feel for the space.
@moonrakerdesign
@moonrakerdesign 11 месяцев назад
@@omjaye That's great advice. When I used to work in factory layout we'd mock up the entire line in cardboard first to get and idea of how parts flowed from station to station. Very similar to what you are talking about here and I'll probably follow the same route! For the floor I'll probably put down some closed cell foam in the channels since I won't have the structure like you do. Both my wife and I are pretty tall so we are trying to keep the floor as slim as possible. I wish the sprinter had a few more inches on the inside!
@omjaye
@omjaye 11 месяцев назад
@@moonrakerdesign If you are doing a fixed bed in the back you can make a split floor and have thicker insulation under the floor in the garage and then the front section minimal. Minicell from DYI might meet your needs for the front floor and then if you are doing cabinets with a base you can add a layer off foam in the base of the cabinets. With that approach most of your floor has thicker insulation. And then add some 12v heated pads in the floor area you walk on. This is the approach I'm considering.

8:29 First off Todd and Colleen congrats on your first child 👶. Your videos are excellent instruction and motivation for my van build. Love your attention to detail. Hey, based on this video and the the Short you did on 3M 04274 (ru-vid.com8sIdC-9hhiE), I'm about ready to conquer the major rattles where all those braces came detached and now rattle like crazy. I will be using 3M 04274. My question is do you think I could attach a flexible hose to the mixing nozzle so that I can reach a few hard to get at braces. Really, I feel it would be best to apply the adhesive to the hard to get to braces, having maybe a 10" flexible hose attached to the tip of the mixing nozzle, and that might allow me to reach the tops and insides of braces, that would not be possible otherwise, to stop the rattling. I'm just wondering if you think attaching a 10" flexible hose to the end of the mixing nozzle would work.
@moonrakerdesign
@moonrakerdesign 2 месяца назад
Hey Glenn, thanks much for the congrats, as you probably know I'm a bit behind on commenting back and sleep 🤣 Where are you trying to get to with the sealant you need to extend that much, with the mixing nozzle it's already about 6" long and I was able to hit all the areas in my van that coming off. Anyways with the 04274 you should probably be okay, open time is around 60 mins so I don't think you'd have to worry about curing in that extra tube length. The biggest thing will be the additional back pressure on the caulking gun and your forearms might hate you!
