Adam Barrott That's what I was thinking lol. He only bought the head too lol. What if I don't have a cab? I don't think that guy knows what not breaking the bank means lol.
Adam Barrott They were aiming for $1500 each for the entire rig, The Head was around £1000, The Guitar was £339, you can easily pick up a second hand Cab for the £140 that's left over. I'd say its mission accomplished.
Agreed...everyday people aren't going to be spending £1099 on just a head...I don't know what they consider breaking the bank to mean but just one of them spent £1438 and that's without a cab....and let's be honest if you did have the money to buy a Mesa then it's highly likely you'd want a decent cab as well... I don't know what the budget was but let's just say for arguments sake it's £1500...you ain't getting a cab worth shit for £62...Rabea spent almost £800 which is much more reasonable but still not exactly cheap.
@@n_dawson This annoys me more than anything. they only bought the head and just assumed that any cabinet will be sufficient and that people will already have the cab. Thanks for pointing it out.
0:05 - In Your Honour (In Your Honour) 4:57 - The Pretender (Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace) 9:51 - All My Life (One by One) 10:15 - Everlong (The Color and the Shape)
Something Like this: Squier 70s Vintage Modified Strat Big Muff Pi Electric Mistress Phase 90 T.C. Electronic Corona T.C. Electronic Alter Ego Two amps with loads of clean headroom.
+tfoshohoe tbh if they can do royal blood on a budget they could do Lifeson. I just think they will largely stick to certain songs with certain effects rather than trying to be comprehensive.
+Tyler the only effects you really need are chorus delay and wah. the rest can be done with a PRS (with floyd) and a hughes and kettner tubemeister i would say
leon taylor Wouldn't be that hard to do Triviu'ms tone. Peavey 6505 mini or EVH 5150 iii 50 watt head, Matt Heafy even has his own Epiphone signature, or anything with Emg 81/85s. Something with Seymour Duncan Blackouts for Corey's tone, tube screamer, done.
flyingmanforfun That doesnt mean you cant match their tones, You just use the amps that they have profiled into their kemper. To profile on a kemper, You need the original amp. You're essentially 'Recording' the tone into the Kemper.
Dave's tone, down to the bare bones is literally as simple as running a ProCo Rat into a Vox Ac30 mic'd up with an SM57 so the budget way would be any Gibson style guitar with humbuckers, a ProCo Rat, the Mooer Black Secret or the Little Bear R.Attack into either a Vox AC15 or an AC30VR
That's right but only for the earlier stuff and live use. He uses a Hiwatt Custom 100 now for his live amp and his main guitar sound in the studio comes from an AC30
You guys really nailed the Pretender opening. Could you guys do sound like Alex Lifeson for some episode? Or at least a Rush song or two. He does use a shitload of effects.
Okay couple ideas for future videos. Some obvious ones are Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Alice in Chains, ACDC, Metallica. And some less obvious ones but some of my personal favorites are Reignwolf, Black Pistol Fire and Black Stone Cherry.
It would of been cool to of seen you bring in a guest guitarist for this one to do Pat Smears guitar rig, sound and parts he plays on a budget. Still a nice video though.
Um - who would buy a Mesa head and an Epiphone? And I must agree with others who point out that an amp head doesn't sound like anything without a cab. Bea's setup is much more in the spirit.
this new series is lacking more episodes :) love the format and the performances by you guys. would also like to see you maybe once a month do a 3000 quid video for the more experienced / skillful guitar players and why they might choose X over Z ?
kasnitch Some major players keep their gear cheap because touring costs are high while the pay has been the same for years. The craze for those that want to spend the money has went from full stacks to pedals. While the major players use to have three or four pedals, now they may have a dozen and at an average cost of 150 pounds, that would be 1800 pounds. Rack mounted stuff is also the recent craze, especially with modeling amps, wireless units, power supplies and guitar tech controlled pedals. A Fender 40w Hot Rod Deluxe III combo (700 pounds), a PRS SE or simular price and quality guitar ($600), six pedals (1000 pounds), Shure SM58 Bundle with mic stand (100 pounds) and cables picks and pedal board (100 pounds). That's 2500 pounds. I'm supporting the 2,500 pound challenge.
A sounds like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, the Drills, or The Raconteurs would be cool. If you keep the budget closer to 1000 like the old series of videos rather than 1500, that'd be cool too.
A "good" price is a very subjective matter since the gear quality and prices vary so so much and people playing music come from all social groups. For me what they're choosing is often way too expensive, 300 quid is a pretty big deal where I live, for example, but in normal places it's just a bit over pocket money. The series is mildly helpful at most, but at least there's some kind of content, right?
I think Dave Grohl has a signature ES-335 that has diamond-shaped f-holes and 6-on-a-side headstock. It's a Gibson, though, so outside the budget of this vid.
Get a Fender Stratocaster, a cheap amp, and beat the shit out of your guitar while playing, you'll get realistic Cobain-like guitar sounds. It also helps if you do loads of pick slides. Worn strings are better strings.
Foo Fighters are basicly getting their sound by natural overdrive form the amps. They keep it simple. They had used for a long time a VOX AC30's amps. But if you wanna get closer to Dave his sound, buy a VOX AC30 (the cheap ones), that epiphone and pedal wise: BOSS DD3, MXR phase 90 and the BOSS TU3. Then you get his sound cheaper than with that mesa boogie rectifier.
Put the bass at 8 and the treble and mid at 6 or 7. Then you will bring the normal volume and master volume to maximum. If you did that, use the guitar volume tone to set the amount of gain. If you have a lower guitar volume there is a low saturated sound and if you have a high volume it is a big gain sound.
I love grunge in general post ,pre, post modern ,modern pre etc. and the foo fighters rock- its amazing how easily you guys got that sound especially clean intros. Man how i wish i could play
The fact that you can stay name brand (albeit from the cheaper subsidiaries) on guitars and amps and get a great sounding, versatile, affordable rig is a reason to be happy to be living now.
I think I produced a pretty close tone with my set up, real cheap too. Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top - $419 Fender Princeton 650 Used - $200 Electro-Harmonix Soul Food Distortion Pedal - $78 Dunlop Original Cry Baby - $80 Shure SM57 - $100 $887 with the mic, $787 without. I have a few videos of Foo covers, I'm biased but I think it's a damn good setup for the cost.
***** Very much doubt this is true. Take a look at this screenshot from the RU-vid gig where they played Wasting Light in the studio a couple of years ago: blog.pedalfinder.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/pat-smear-foo-fighters-action.jpg. His peavy seems mic'd to me.
