Michel Legrand hosts "The Sound of Applause," a 1982 special starring Shirley Bassey, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Jack Jones, Vic Damone, and the Letterman.
Now, this was MUSIC ! Absolutely marvelous performances by everyone. I mourn the loss of music and performances like this. I’ve run out of adjectives to describe it. Bravo !
I am total in love with Eydie Gormie's beautiful mezzo soprano voice and her exotic look and beauty. Steve Lawrence was her luckiest husband and had her companion the entire life. RIP Eydie i adore you although you are in heaven
Totally awesome to hear and see Steve Lawrence perform. This guy is a vocal and entertainment legend. They don’t make performers like this. Can’t wait to hear Eydie Gorme, Shirley Bassey, Vic Damone, Jack Jones. Thanks for sharing this great performance.
On March 7, a wreath was placed on the star of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. RIP Steve Lawrence (1935- 2024). Michel Legrand- Armenian composer, pianist, conductor
Wonderful music by these talented artists, Thank you Michel Legrand and all and each guests and the orchestra. Great performance. Thank you to all! Salute for the memories.
In May 1959 PFC Steve Lawrence came to Fort Monroe, VA to entertain. I was privileged to photograph the rehearsal and the performance. I was a SP4 and ready to leave the Army. He was so real and down-to-earth.

"I've Gotta Be Me" was a popular song that appeared in the Broadway musical Golden Rainbow, which was designed as a vehicle for Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé, then hugely popular. . It opened in New York City at the Shubert Theatre on February 4, 1968, and closed on January 11, 1969. The music and lyrics for the musical were composed and written by Walter Marks in 1967." In short, it was Lawerence who first sang this, and it was his voice for which it was written and he recorded it on both the cast album and as a single in 1967. Sammy Davis recorded it in 1968 a few months before Golden Rainbow closed and it was his version that became a hit.
Sounds of applause for all times I would say, spectacular! Michel Legrand's performance of "The Windmills Of Your Mind" touched my spirit because my belated mom, mi Marie-Louise was an excellent pianist aficionado. Every evening, after dinner, we used to go to our family room, she would take her rings off, put them on each of the piano key board and start these magnificent sounds of applause, filling our home and hearts to this day. It is unreal how 55 years have gone by since she played last and I still remember every instant...time is a single breeze and I thank God for our faith, memory, hearts, senses and capacity to love. Cheers to you in heaven, mamita amada, te amo ♾Marie-Louise de mi❤

@@MishaG9 im sure the songs / list is correct, it was more the order of the list from when the songs came on in the video. The first ones seems ok but later it seems different. But it's okay :)
Ok,one more time the musical voice of Vic Damone, rates right up there with Frank and Tony. Feeling Judy doesn't mind you singing Her Majestic "Over the Rainbow".
Love 💖😘 those 2 records 👏👌👍😁🎯⏺️by Steve Lawrence ! He really does a " bang up" job on them ! Definitely 2 of my favorites by him ! Saw and met both jack Jones and Vic damone - 2 great 😃👍😁🎯 singers also who couldn'tve been nicer !
Different styles. Sinatra improvised alot. Lawrence was more formal in his singing. I love both of them along with Dean Sammy, Matt Monro and Any Williams. Of course Mathis.
@@adrienneszatkowski2471 what i dont unferstand is why Lawrence isnt more celebrated. A lot of his material from the Columbia years as an adult singer still isnt on cd.
Sinatra was a greater stylist. Listen to September of my Years, I've Got you Under My Skin and In the Wee Small Hours and you we see what I mean. They were all great here. The best pure voice award goes to Vic. I love Shirley too.
Might add the Letterman..Man o' Man! Yet have their discs and tapes(somewhere). Caught their gig in Hollywood swing club..Man they blew the joint into the Great Pacific Ocean..Not only did they vocalize the got down on instrumentantations of far out sounds...Viva Los LetterMen.. Oh yeah the Man! Michèle Legrand the "Windmill of our minds!" Guys our feelings are yet with ya! Yeah will see and hear you again No Jive! (August,2023)..
IT'S A REAL PRIVILEGE... HE SEES SO MANY STARS OF THIS MAGNITUDE GATHERED. FROM MICHEL LEGRAND, THE STEVE EYDIE ORCHESTRA, SHIRLEY JACK JONES. WONDERFUL PROGRAM

Ok really last but not least..The amazing Shirley Bassey a voice complimenting her dancing...Mistral Legrand his powerful masterpiece will live forever just like the Windmills of our minds" The Bergman's lyrics yet resinate in the windmill of our minds..
I just played a fully working 1981 Hammond Elegante organ at a Music-Go-Round they were selling for 179 bucks! In 1981 it was $14,000! People these days have no idea what music used to mean to people.
