@@lucalone yes they are although surprisingly for me they don’t always beat an OG pressing. It varies quite a bit on the recording I have found. Some are better than others.

One of my very favorite jazz records. I had the OJC Blue Note release and sold it as soon as I got the One Step. It was unbelievably clear and better in just about every way. Good review-thanks. I don't keep multiple versions of the same record, just the best sounding one, so I guess I am not a "collector". My opinion is just going to the 45 format alone improves the sound quality, and in this case the improvement goes well beyond that. Not crazy about spending $125 for a record, but I'll splurge if I don't have a very high end copy already and the record is a top favorite. For example, I have the Kind of Blue Mofi 45 box set and didn't splurge for the UHQR at $150 (plus shipping which is more than double the price).I am sure the UHQR is a little better, but from the reviews I've seen, not a night and day difference.

There certainly is a night and day difference in the sound of the UHQR vs the Mofi but as far as difference in quality there isn’t much no.

I definitely get the bright/harshness on the Classic series that is a bit of a turnoff even with a tube pre and amp setup. It almost comes across as "hiss" on the right channel along with the drum brushing... Might have to take a swing at the MoFi release at some point.

Is there a link with the description of your brother's two systems used? I mean I see the Vandy speakers flanking you but I can't make out the turntable in the cubby hole behind you. It's either a vintage table or a modern Technics. I can't really tell. Please list the cartridges and phono stages used as well. Thanks.
@trueaudiofiles8453
@trueaudiofiles8453 7 месяцев назад
There is no link anywhere sorry. I don’t know everything in his systems. I know he has higher end Vandy’s in his second system and he uses McIntosh pre amps and amps. I don’t know cartridges used but he uses a higher end vintage Technics turntable downstairs and something higher end than that upstairs but I don’t know what. We tried to review the sound with objective information as much as we could so systems would be less important in what we said.
@CarterParker3D
@CarterParker3D 7 месяцев назад
Downstairs: technics 1700 with denon D110. McIntosh pre amp. Quicksilver 90 mono blocks and vandersteen 2 Upstairs: denon turntable with denon DL 301 cart, McIntosh c32 pre, musical surroundings pre amp, MC2255 amp, vandersteen quatros (My Sumiko starling cart is out on loan) For this album, upstairs had the upper hand. It can go either way!

@@trueaudiofiles8453Thanks for the response although I must admit I am surprised that you do place more value on the equipment side? To some of us this is important because based on the level of the system used we can better assign more or less weight to the opinions being given. For example, I may place more weight on the opinions of a guy using a Rega P9 turntable over another guy’s opinion who’s using a Crosley. Make sense? I would encourage you to list the gear in the info section of this video if you don’t mind. Easy enough asking your brother for a list. Thanks in advance.
@trueaudiofiles8453

@@LetThereBeSound1 I place much more importance on talking about objective information about the differences between the different pressings I review. Those differences in many cases will be noticeable regardless of the system. The exceptions would probably be soundstage observations. Those that know their systems and preferences well will have a good understanding of which pressing would be the best for them with what I try to give for info. That is a big reason why I try not to give subjective reviews like this is too bright or this is too bass heavy etc.. I try to say things like pressing a has more bass than pressing b. I hope that makes sense as I feel this makes it irrelevant what the system is I am comparing on.
@LetThereBeSound1
@LetThereBeSound1 7 месяцев назад
@@trueaudiofiles8453I wouldn’t say it is irrelevant. If I were reviewing records I would always be very transparent of the gear I am using to review for anyone to check out for the reasons I mentioned before. A yardstick or barometer should exist because if the given system is extremely basic or lo-fidelity then the reviewer cannot possibly give a reliable opinion as the system will not posses adequate resolution. But that’s just me. It is your channel and you will do it your way. It’s cool.

I have the classic Gray version that is 26 dollars and it’s fantastic!! There’s really no reason to spend 150 bucks on the Mobile version These reviews tend to pick the newer and more expensive versions They need a blindfold test to really make a decision!!

It seems as though you really didn’t watch the video as I actually never make a flat out make a specific recommendation. I actually make recommendations based on what I feel people’s preferences may be and I recommended the Classic for those that don’t want to spend $125 on the Mofi as I think it is a great value.

on my equipment Blue Note classics sounds better, piano rendition, bass, treble, soundstage, I just hate paper like muted bass on MoFI also treble are not so great and I hear more there from Classic I also have MM pressing and it is tad better and classic sounds close to it, I have Hana Umami Blue mounted on VPI table and all Ayre equipment

While I know this is a giant album, I’m disappointed in it, personally. I started getting into jazz with a purpose about 5-6 years ago. I bought mediocre pressings of some the essentials, like KIND OF BLUE, MOANIN, TIME OUT, BLUE TRAIN and ALS, and SOMETHIN ELSE. Over the years, I’ve upgraded my copies (UHQR, Classic, AP-45, Tone Poet) and have dug deep into these six records. I’ve come to more or less love 5/6, but I finally pulled SOMETHIN ELSE because it just never grabbed me, despite my knowing it’s a clandestine classic Miles album. I wish it wasn’t the case. The reason why I watched hoping someone would finally unlike the secret of this album for me, but I guess you already have to love it.
@CarterParker3D

I would say somethin' else is more about the subtle variations in how the tune is played. The others might be more tune-grabby in approach. Hang on to Somethin' and report back in 5 years!

The Mo-Fi is also a digital one step, which is exactly why i won't buy it. Anything Kevin Gray masters is amazing especially if its mastered in his lab at Coherent Audio.

I had to use an excessive amount of noise reduction on the recording because of the interference I was getting on my good mic I usually use. That was as good as I was going to get for sound on this one.
