I have a cheap soundbar, it’s good for me. I live in a gff and, generally watch tv in my bedroom, when it’s getting late, I have a little round speaker which I can just sit on my shoulder, and there’s no danger of disturbing my neighbours upstairs! I fall asleep with it on my shoulder (I sleep pretty much upright) and, although it stays on, the tv turns off and that’s it till I wake up. I always keep it attached to a portable charger because, when it does need charging, the beep almost makes me jump a mile 😂 If I could have a couple of surround sound speakers which wouldn’t disturb my neighbours at night, that would be fantastic! I have the weirdest sleep pattern 🤪
4K Passthru is definitely important these days. Also I'd recommend a soundbar that's more than 2.1 channels. The center audio channel is important for dialog and whatnot. I've yet to experience Dolby Atmos, maybe they've got some magic to simulate the center speaker. 👍
Really difficult one as it really depends on your needs. If you just want a soundbar that is compact and to play your tv through then the Sony HTMT300 is always a popular one, but if you want something that packs a bit more punch and you want to stream music to it as well, then you won't go wrong with the Sonos Beam or Arc.
I find it peculiar that to watch tv and hear it, you have to buy a sound bar. That's some genius plan to sell more stuff to people. I gotta say I enjoy the videos of Lord's Electric, but I am happy I don't own a TV. One of those huge screens wouldn't even fit my apartment.
I don't think TVs have ever had great speakers, higher end TV sets (Sony) use the screen as a speaker. Check out one of his other reviews of flatscreens. Manufacturers can keeps costs down and give consumers freedom to customize to their audio preferences. 👍
