That is most likely Discord's processing. They cut off some frequencies so there is not as much data to transmit between Users. They also have some kind of echo reduction going on, so stuff like reverb and echo gets reduced. Actual Voicemeeter audio Quality is what you set it to be

Thank you! I appreciate it. Judging from what you've described and the official documentation, it should work. There might be a different issue. Maybe the button isn't triggering right or the sound file can't be stopped. Try using a different sound file and use a different button if you haven't already. Maybe that changes things. Other than that, I don't really know what it could be.

okay i fixed it, just converted it to WAV, but still this is an odd issue

If you want the sound to play through your microphone, you have to press the "B1" Button next to the Cassette Recorder inside of Voicemeeter Banana or Potato. Then it will play it throught the Voicemeeter VAIO Device. If you want it to play through "Voicemeeter AUX VAIO" or "Voicemeeter VAIO3". You can press either B2 or B3 respectively.

@@salkinxd That's what I did, but when I play the sound, there is no sound that goes into the microphone, nor into the sound of the computer, and yet I can hear it well.

I don't have Windows 10 any more, but it should be somewhere at the top of the explorer. On Windows 11 its also at the top under "View -> Show -> Preview Pane". There is a Program called "PowerToys" by Microsoft that also adds support for PDFs and other file formats.

If you right click the Recorder then you can change the Slider for the "Playback Gain". That changes the overall volume of all sounds though. You can also just bring the sound into Audacity and make the sound louder

You can use recorder.record = 1; to start recording the Armed Inputs (which can be set to your Microphone or Outputs by right-clicking the recorder). Whenever you wanna stop recording you have to use recorder.stop = 1; and command.eject = 1;. This will save the audio file to a location you can specify by right-clicking the recorder. If you google "Voicemeeter Potato Manual" and scroll down until you arrive at the Voicmeeter Macro Buttons section, you can see all the "commands" you can use.

If you then wanna play the file you recorded you use the same method as for playing sounds like the tutorial. I haven't personally tried this but it should theoretically work.

I think i wasn't able to convey my meaning! I wish to press one button to record something from my mic and another butoon you play it instantly without creating a custom macro every time is record a new sound using my mic. Do you think it is possible?

@@ZubairSapra It should be possible though you might have to fumble around with the Macro Buttons program and file names etc. seeing as it isn't designed for Sound-Playback. It is just an "Additional Feature" in MacroButtons. I currently can't test it because I don't have Voicemeeter installed at the moment.

You could try a different Audio format. Throw the audio file into Audacity and export it as a wav or mp3 file. For me wav files worked the best

If you want that, make sure your button is not on "toggle" in the top right. Then you have to put "recorder.stop=1;" in the release section (one of the textfields). Now it should start the audio file and when you don't hold it down anymore (release) stop the audio file.

To the right of the recorder there are buttons, you probably have A1 and A2 enabled there. These say where your audio from the recorder goes. I have A1 and B1 selected so people can hear my soundboard in discord and I can hear it myself

It should work with either banana, or potato... The very basic Voicemeeter doesn't have the "Recorder" so it doesn't work.

Yes there is. You can use "Strip(STRIPNR).mute = 1;" (without quotes) to mute the strip where STRIPNR is the Number of the Strip from left to right (From 0-7). It does depends on what version of Voicemeeter you use. Voicemeeter Potato has 8 strips. You just have to go through the numbers until you find the strip you wanna mute/unmute (to unmute you do "Strip(3).mute = 0;"). If you wanna mute/unmute the Buses (the "faders" on the right side of the program) you can use the word "Bus" instead of "Strip". So that would be something like "Bus(1).mute = 1;". If you wanna mute more than one strip at a time you just write the line multiple lines below each other. Just be careful that every line needs to end with a ";" (Semicolon)

If you add your microphone as a hardware input, then select "B1" on both the mic and the recorder, it sends your microphone and recorder audio to "Voicemeeter Output", which you can select as a microphone in whatever software you want.

Double Check the File Path, maybe you have a Typo or something. If not, you can try using a different file format, like mp3 or wav

I don't think you can set one for the Soundboard. You can only set a limiter on a Hardware Input if you drag from the top down on the Fader. This will make the audio not go higher than that limiter. Maybe you can make the "Recorder" output to a Hardware Input which then Outputs it to wherever you want.

You could try adding Recorder.gain=6; in the next line after the play command. The 6 is the volume you want the file to play at, it goes from -60 dB to +12 dB. But you have to do that to every sound, because as soon as you play another sound, it would be the same volume as the volume you set last. I haven' tried it out but I prefer just changing the volume in audacity anyways

This Error usually comes when you try the "wrong" file format. I recommend using .wav files. They work most of the time. I've seen .mp3 files work sometimes. I usually convert them to .wav format in Audacity to be sure. You also might need to try different .wav files (you can choose in Audacity when you export it as a .wav file). Banana and Potato have the same Recorder, so I don't think it matters in that case.

This is because for some reason the Macro Buttons only output Mono Audio, meaning only one Channel. If you use it in like discord, teamspeak 3 or game voice chats it shouldn't matter. In OBS you have to make it Mono in the Advanced Audio Properties

Double check your Path to the file. Also try to avoid spaces in the Path. If you can't, try to use Quotes (like "C:\Path"). Hope this helps

@@salkinxd I just had to add a . to the record load. but when I fixed that, it says can't open file. I tried every file type I could use on audacity, and it still didn't work. I tried another file that's completely different from the one I was trying to set, it still said error.

If you have your mic setup through Voicemeeter you have to send the recorder to "B1". That means you have to make the "B1" Button next to the recorder green. This will make every sound that comes out of the recorder go through your mic as well.

You might have to try different types of .wav Files. Because some .wav files are different. Unfortunately I don't have any of those Files anymore to tell you what type of .wav File it would be that you need to use.

@@salkinxdI can get the files to play on the recorder but when I press the macro it says can’t open file, I click on the recorder and it brings up the file I want to play so ik its the correct path. I even tried typing into file manager and it brought up the Audio right away but somehow doesn’t work with the buttons

What type of Sound File did you use? (mp3? wav? ogg?) Does it play it in the recorder and you cant hear it? Did you check that the Path to file is correct?

@@doctor_alfa The Recorder in Voicemeeter Banana/Potato. Its the Cassette looking thing on the right of Voicemeeter. If everything is correct it should look like its playing the file and the filename should also be there

Did you check the file Path? If the Path has spaces or special Characters in it it might not work. Also you can try different file types like .wav or .mp3 and see what works. Unfortunately I don't know the exact formats of the Audio files that work.

I have not tried it, but if you make a toggle button and put in Fx.Reverb.on 1 in the "on" state and Fx.Reverb.on 0 in the "off" state, then that should work

you can try restarting the audio engine under "Menu" in the top right. Audio sounding bad can unfortunately be the cause of just using Voicemeeter. The Macrobuttons don't change anything about your mic. Try restarting Voicemeeter and/or restarting your PC. Maybe that'll fix it. If you can describe how your mic sounds bad then I might be able to help.

@@salkinxd It went from sounding like your average blue yeti mic on voicemeeter banana. To being way too loud and a constant painful ringing. In discord it sounds low quality in general now. I have already tried restarting audio engine and my pc.

@@bathwater_jesse686 that sounds to me, like your Microphone comes in at too high of a volume and subsequently peaking. Try turning down the Slider in Voicemeeter (it might be hitting the Red Area, when it should be all green). You can also try changing the volume of the microphone in the windows audio settings (you can get to the audio settings in all windows versions by press CTRL+R and pasting in "mmsys.cpl sounds" followed by pressing Enter). In the Settings you can go to the "Recording" tab -> Right-Click on your Microphone -> "Properties" -> "Levels" Tab -> Turn the slider down. Another option is to turn down the mic itself it has a dial. In case it's not the volume, it might be using the wrong device. Sometimes the default Device can change automatically if you plug in a new device. Make sure, that you have the right device selected as a default device in Windows. That means going to your windows sound settings again, right click your Mic in the Recording Tab and "Set as default device" and "Set as default Communication Device". If you can't see those options, that means you already have it selected as the default device for both. Sometimes the Samplerate gets broken in Voicemeeter so you need to check if at "Hardware Out" it says something like 48 or 44.1 khz

@@salkinxd This helped in voicemeeter but its still the same in discord. Also whenever I get close to the mic it gets really bass boosted. Any Solutions for that part?

​@@bathwater_jesse686 I made a mistake. Your mic should NOT be the default device. It should be the VB-Audio VoiceMeeter VAIO device, which is like the "B1" output of Voicemeeter. So make sure you got that set as the default device and the default communication device, just like I told you in the message from before. Then Discord should use the correct mic. You could also just select the Voicemeter VAIO device in discord directly to make sure it actually uses that. Microphones do get Bass boosted if you get too close. Usually turning down the volume or adding "Compression" can fix that. In Voicemeeter you can add Compression by turning up the Dial that says "Comp" on the Microphone Track (usually "A1")

That is usually a Problem with the sound file itself. Check if it happens with another File format as well. If not, try loading the file into Audacity and then exporting it to a different file format

Its a bug with some file formats, if you only use it for your friends aka using it in discord, it should be fine, because discord makes everything mono. You can try converting it to a different file format with audacity, maybe that helps

@@salkinxd i'm having the same problem, switched it to mp3 from wav and it still didn't work. this only happens with files i have recorded, but i have recorded them in mono. Why is this happening

On the right side of the recorder there are Buttons that are labeled A1-A3 (or A1-A5 depending on your Voicemeeter Variant) and also B1-B2 (or B1-B3). If you toggle the "B1" Button on you should get the output of the recorder playing through B1 (which is usually your mic). If you also turn A1 on it plays it through your speakers as well. Thanks!

@@salkinxd If I have my mic on B2, I select B2 on right side - right? I actually can't get it to play thru example a game or discord..but I hear it my side when I enable my outputs.

@@MonthOLDpickle It depends. B1-B3 means the output device. So if you use "Voicemeeter VAIO" in discord (for example) as a mic you need to select B1. For "Voicemeeter AUX VAIO" you need to select B2 and for "Voicemeeter VAIO3" you need to select B3.

Try converting it to a different audio format, maybe that helps.
