Thank you so much for your excellent videos. I just got the latest 3.1 version of the Ui24r. I'm replacing a more formal older digital workstation which recorded directly to it's own internal Hard drive, no PC required. My question is, with regards to a typical, formal type of recording session, from reading notes and viewing this video, there appears to be no easy way to basically, record 22 live tracks, playback 20, re-record 2 tracks and re-mix the whole thing again to perhaps a new session, done all withing the Ui24r, is this true? If so, then you must use a DAW to truly get that type of normal recording studio type of functionality? Hopefully, I am missing something. Thanks in advance and again, great work.
Don't know if you'll see this since it's been so long, but here's my question: By default, your mic cut out when you went to soundcheck. Does that happen for all the channels? IE - i want to multi-track record our band during practice, to help mix and EQ when they're not on stage. When i go to sound check, will I lose the audio in the master/aux sends? Thanks in advance if you see this.
@jayar692 I never figured out how to use the soundcheck settings properly. I changed jobs, and the new church I went to has an x32. (Which, btw, might be "better," but I much prefer the ui24. )
Thanks for the video. I have done a virtual soundcheck before where the analog gain does not translate to the digital gain. I spent a lot of time with my gain structure. But when I switched back over to the analog inputs, gain was not set correctly. I am thinking about purchasing this mixer to record bands. That way I can go back at a later time and setup the mixer for future shows. Do you think I have an issue with gains not translating?
Any reason why my recording within the Ui12 is extremely low? I'm trying to record my band's sound, but once I'm done and let it play. The volume is extremely low
Thanks a lot, your videos helped me and my band deciding zu buy this great thing. But I have a question: You said the minimum write-speed of the USB-Stick/SSD should be 20mbit/s. But what does the "minimum" mean in this case? Is this just for 1 track recording and if i want to record 22 tracks it will get higher? And also: If I want to use wav(24bit) instead of flac(16bit-> smaller file size) for example, do I need a higher write-speed for that than 20mbit/s or is this also included in the word "minimum"? I'm asking because we want to buy a SSD to record all channels per multitrack-recording but dont want to buy the wrong one with too slow write speed. Thank you:)
I enjoy all of your instructional videos, I have scoured the User's manual and RU-vid trying to find out if it is possible to overdub on a multitrack recording, using ONLY the Ui24R unit, no external DAW. I was thinking what you did here was close !!! make a "soundcheck" recording and then play along with it while recording onto a second USB stick ???? Has this been done, is there a more efficient way to OVERDUB on existing multitrack recordings? I know its been awhile since this was posted, but my unit is arriving this week and I want to be prepared to try it. Thank you
Hi. you're videos have made me want to buy this mixer. A quick question. If I'm playing in a smaller venue but want to record my whole band, would the desk still record all channels to usb if they're armed in the recorder section but muted front of house?
thank you for a wonderful video. I don't own the Soundcraft Ui24R yet. So I just want to confirm with you that after recorded, you can playback individual track?
You’re mentioning ssd recording, i’ve bought an usb ssd 128 gb...ntfs format😬 Now it is not formatted in fat32 which is the only format permitted by the ui24r. Do you have any tips or experience on that? Thx JP
Hi and thanks for all of you great tutorials . It felt like I had owned my ui24r for months when I finally got it home thanks to you. Just wondered if you would consider going over the finer details of setting input gains and any pitfalls associated with this part of the setup process? Quincy
When I multitrack record, can I stop recording and then resume recording where I left off? I record a lot of jam sessions and gigs where there is a lot of down time between songs. With my current recorder I can stop and go just like a tape recorder and when I’m finished it comes out as one continuous recording.
Hi thank you for your tuto! Can you help me please? We try to record with many usb stick but we have a problem with the buffer who is satured... What is the problem please ? I have tryed with many usb stick but the problem is the same... Thank you for your response
Hi. I did a three mic setup for a wedding ceremony (including the guitarist) on Friday and wanted to record everything to multitrack USB but as soon as I patched it for that, I couldn't hear the guitarist (he was the only one making sound at that point) and immediately switched back to the original patching. If I would have hit record at that point, would I have heard the inputs again?
Great tutorials, thank you. Do you know if you can raise the input levels to the 2 track recorder. I like using the 2 tr rec for performance reference and find that the files I drag n drop are very low in level.
It references the Master output level, What you could do is push that higher and then reduce the outputs on the hardware itself. (the front panel levels)
I bought Soundcraft ui 24 r but when I switched it on. I have not put anything like XLR input in the channels I will hear some noise coming out anytime I increase a fader like maybe channel six and that noise will start coming. Please what is the problem. Please
Hi. I've loaded individual tracks from my computer onto a USB. When I plug the USB into the soundcraft unit I can see the tracks load as they are available to play in the two track USB section. But to my dismay I can't play them in multitrack. Is the only way to play multi-track if you record the files with the soundcraft onto a USB? I thought I would be able to take tracks I've recorded on my computer place them on the USB and then practice using the sound craft using the multitrack playback function.
Hope you can help med with this: I need help for recording from Ui24R to Logic Pro X: I can send microphone in input 3 to input 13 on Logic no problem. But if I add a FX to the signal I still get the original signal from the mic on Logic Pro. How do I get the signal including fx recorded to logic. Kind regards Leif Ringkjobing
Thanks for this interesting video! Can i record in multitrack mode including some playback tracks in some channel? I mean to record input channels while in other channels are playing playback tracks. Thanks.
@@mix-record-connect9938Can you explain how to patch this? Looking to record the track playback so that I can hear it during Soundcheck Mode. I'm really struggling with this. Thank you for the videos!
Great video, I've learned so much! My band uses the Ui24R live and I am recording out shows. We play small clubs and don't need drums and bass in the main mix but I still want to record them to the USB stick in multi-track mode. So we have bass plugged in direct, and also it's cabinet is live and the drums mic'ed up to get them recorded but how do I keep them out of the main mix? right now I'm keeping their main mix levels low but I feel that effects the their input in the recording as well. It's probably a simple solution that I'm just not aware of.
What is the max size thumb drive that can be used with these? I have the ui16 and the manual doesn't specify. I've been using a 14 gig, but it fills up fairly quickly, and I don't want to delete the files as I want to keep as backup.
10mb per minute per stereo file for WAV recording. But remember it is FAT32 formatted. Files larger than 4GB can NOT be stored on a FAT32 volume, you can format the drive larger, that's not an issue, but then you will need to stop recording and start a new file
Hi.. man nice tips... but have a issue.. i have recorded to usb stick but when i go to play it off laptop.. all are indivdualy recorded.. is ther a way to play back all instru and vocal as group
Hi! :) Can you help me please? I have a problem in the gain section, when I want to set the gain to my mics and for any input device and I want to set my mics gain to +11.2dB the fader is jump to +10dB and I see in your video you can set the gain to +43.2dB. We have the new V3 update on the mixer and we use a 10.1" tablet. What is the problem in our Ui24R?
@@mix-record-connect9938 If I type in manually for example +13.6dB the fader jumps to +12dB. Where I can find this slow mode thing in the mixer's software?
@@mix-record-connect9938 And the hold fader for fine tuning option does not help same problem when this option is on. So where I can find this slow mode for the fader option?
easily, calculate it, a track takes around 11MB per minute. Make sure stick is formated to FAT32, I would not record the whole show as ONE FILE, stop it a few times in between.
only stick usb 2.0 or usb 3.0 ? (sur usb 3.0 or 3.1 , exFAT, alloc 32Ko , I CANNOT record, the stick is not "reconnu" !!! ) what about it svp ! my english is not Top !!!
I think you should watch some more videos and also join some Facebook groups. To record to MTK with FX you cannot as everything is pre FX and processing, you can easily remix via the ui24R to 2 track at the same time. You could record the FX via AUX if using a DAW.
if i wanna record while using eq/comp on the master channels how do i bypass the effects to the recording? I wanna have the eq/comp in our iems but raw without any eq/comp to the multitrack recordings in order to properly mix in daw later. Is this possible?
ok. i'm using the usb multitrack method. I want to just record the L/R POST (effects and all) do i do anything different or is it all pre-effects. I want effects in the mix. Basically FOH mix on USB. thanks for all your help
That's very simple, this is the 2track recorder built in, not the multitrack. It will record the FOH mix for you. Be aware that if your mixing and the level is -12dB or -20dB that would be the recorded level as well. You can also record to DAW channel 1 and 2 which are the LR outputs post FX.
I'm trying to record multi tracks directly into logic pro. I can't seem to set it up right. When i do get a signal, i can't play it back after recording. Kinda simple like...Channel 1 is Channel 1 and so one. how do i set it up, please. thanks
It's not a problem as such as 10,000's of users have a Ui24R, when you want to PLAY BACK what are you doing exactly? I would suggest the best place is the Ui24 face group user group, that has over 4000 members.
I was told that it is possible to record Multitrack and then play that back and mix down to 2 track, all within the Ui24R Is it true, if so how does that work?
Yes, that is correct. As simple as hitting the record button on the 2 track player page and the Play button on the Multitrack page (These buttons can also appear on the main page if you program the function buttons to trigger these events).
Hello, new question !!! : when we record in multitrack whith usb stick , can we record with effects on each track and listen after on a daw (by track). In my config, I have not listen the effect Reverb after record, for example . Excuse my english
All multitrack recordings are done just after the preamp, before all other processing. You can record MASTER LR as a stereo track with FX. You can use a DAW and record FX sent to AUX as well.
Hi. Is there a way to take the USB stick out of the Ui24R and then place it in a PC and open the session file directly from the USB drive using the a DAW?
Depending on how you record the session you can just take the files and drop them in your DAW, they are standard WAV or FLAC. Many DAW's can read FLAC directly as well. The audio files are recorded on the stick so just select them and drop them into your DAW. If your DAW only reads WAV files and you recorded as FLAC(which is recommended) you may need to convert them first (several programs are available to do so including Reaper)
Wow - thanks for the fast response. I'm using Adobe Audition and will check about the file format. I was wanting to record multitrack sessions to USB on the Ui24R and open the session on the PC later to remix on the DAW. So, I cannot open the session file and everything be there...I have to drag each file over and create session in DAW?
If you are not using all your AUX outputs you could setup a MATRIX as the main outputs (pre fader) and then use the master level to still control the volume going to USB stick. (that's the only way you can do this)
So I can have the band playing live using 14 chanels, and using backingtracks 4 chanels and 1click chanel, from USB Stick. Its easy to change from one music to another?
The only way to do that is to then record to 2 track and bounce down to MTK, like you used to do with 2 tape decks in the old days (but you will not get any audio degradation now).
you could hear playback from USB Multitrack and record more tracks as a mix to the LR output or to DAW for example. You cannot (YET) add more tracks to a multitrack this way. Obviously to a connected computer with a DAW you certainly could.
Thanks a lot. Is it possible to record the playback musik from the usb and my drumkid together? via Multitack recording? i tried it via 2 track usb...it works ...but the recored mp3 file is very very quiet
You can record it to DAW or manually feed the 2track back into a couple of channels, the MTK only records inputs. As far as recording quiet, it relates to MASTER level, so you need more level in your master output (you can reduce the output to the speakers with the physical knobs anyway). What shows on master fader is the recording level to 2 Track.
2 track to record to MTK you would need to physically connect 2 wires back into input channels (for example Headphone 2 to RCA inputs with a TRS to 2 RCA cable. (and make sure volume is low)
Ok, thank you very much for your support. I see. My Problem is, that I like to use the usb-port for playing my background musik, because i can start und stop the songs easier via the MTK Software via Ipad. But i see there would be no other possibility to handle that except physically connection? Or would it be possible that the playback songs on the USB stick can also be routed internally to an input channel to record the playback musik from the usb and my drumkid together via Multitack recording?......
Anything that has a minimum write and read speeds of 20mbps. Many USB sticks advertise fast speed, but they only say READ speed not write speed. It's crucial for MTK recording to have a fast write speed as well.
How is anyone using an SSD? If format is FAT32 we are stuck with 32G max. Too bad. Haven't been able to get 2 track to work yet. All controls are grayed out. Multitrack seems to be fine. Probably something I'm missing although multitrack came right up as soon as stick was available. Thanks
So I'm going to reply to my own query as it was an unusual condition.... When I started the mixer I had an over 32G usb stick plugged in and it wouldn't load. I pulled that out and plugged in a 32G and multitrack came up. When I went to the 2 track button everything was grayed out. Since the multitrack was working I thought there was a setting I was missing but could not find. In a blind attempt, since I had nothing else to go on, I removed the USB stick and reinserted it... Surprise, surprise the 2 track and the multitrack were both active. I guess if all else fails try unplugging and reinserting the USB stick. I'm guessing you may get 2 hours recording time with 24 tracks/Flac16 on one 32G Stick. Estimate based on random information gathered on Internet. Doubtful any USB larger than 32G will work due to FAT32 limitation. That was the consensus of Tech Support as well but if anyone has updated information please post. Direct to computer DAW would allow for much longer recording times.
Could you redo this tutorial without using your mic for the tutorial screwing up the tutorial by being hooked up to the ui24? This gets in the way of explaining the tutorial and makes a simple tutorial complicated! Just use a different system for tutorial so you don’t cut out the mic during your presentations thanks!
ola amigo moro no BRASILl.. por favor me tire uma duvida.. consigo gravar 03 pistas gravaçãofica ok.. mas na hora da reprodução vou fazer alguns ajustes para de reproduzir... o que está acontecendo? abraço.
I am not sure what you mean, if you play the track back the you change EQ, you will hear it with the new settings but it will not record it back to the track. You would record this to your master mix or to a DAW if you want.
Thanks for the information! But I have a problem. When I choose the chanells that I want to record, those chanells don't make any sound. Also I see a red "x" in the volumen bar. Please help :(
x is gate, you should learn about it.. you DO NOT choose anything in the UI24R in order to record to the DAW.. !! please learn this part as well :-) Watch the video again, for DAW it's already setup, you need to choose your AUDIO INPUT to the channel (MIC INPUT LINE INPUT)
Hi Pedro, you don't hit Soundcheck to record (soundcheck is only for playback, it changes the inputs from MIC PRE to DAW or USB A, that is why you cannot hear anything) You need to select which channel you want to record and what format recording (WAV,FLAC etc).
I am able to multitrack record one song on a flash drive, but only one, after that nothing records, it is still reading the flash drive but nothing records. Is my flash drive not fast enough or what is happening?
jeeeesus Soundcraft, there IS a rest of the world out there (not borne in US/UK). I like my Ui 24 BUT a manual does not exist and the turtorial is really bad.
Gunnar Avelin , you’re not missing much. The manual section on the multitrack assumes that you are a Harman engineer. It’s useless as far as educational value.
HELLO ,when you say " 25 mb/s " ( byte or bit ) for USB stick, it is 200 Mo/s ? (WRITE ) . For example this stick "SANDISK EXTREME Go USB 3.1 FLASH DRIVE" www.sandisk.fr/home/usb-flash/extreme-go-usb, FORMATE "exFAT 32Go" is not recognize... can you help me please !!! it is the third stick !

Buenas noches. Tengo intereses por Soundcraft ui24, pues tengo dudas, me pregunto si tiene algún software para reconocer con interfaz en el programa de grabación a través de USB? Gracias
Soundcraft has USB drivers you download for PC, on MAC it is CORE AUDIO compatible so no need for drivers. It works with ANY DAW that's compatible with ASIO or CORE AUDIO. In other words, it works with everything.
please I need help, I bougth this one: Toshiba Canvio Basics 1TB 3.0 goo.gl/P5fHNQ but it didn't work, the ui24r does not recognize it, wich one should I buy? please a list of supported devices
I bought a SONY 3.0 USB stick, and I formatted it to FAT32 and it worked thank you. but I cant make my Toshiba Canvio Basics 1TB 3.0 works, maybe because is a External Hard Drive.
Por favor, alguém conseguiu gravar os 22 canais usando qualquer tipo de pen drive,? Tentei com vários: 2.0, 3.0 de várias marcas, todos deram problemas.(no formato wav)
Sure many users record 22 channels, you need to make sure that it is formatted to FAT32 also that the speed (WRITE SPEED) is minimum 40mbps. Many say READ SPEED FAST but the write speed is not so good.
