I was very fortunate to meet Chris before he passed, and I was lucky to talk to him for a while! He answered all the questions I wanted to know, and we talked about Soundgarden, his solo albums, Audioslave, and the recent reunion of temple of the dog. He was super kind, and signed a bunch of things for me. I also got one of his guitar pics! I brought Audioslaves self titled vinyl in to get him to sign, and he was super excited to see the vinyl. I told him how big of an inspiration he was to me, and how much his music meant to me. I was very nervous before meeting him, but as soon as I did I wasn’t nervous at all. He was just a regular down to earth laid back guy, and was so cool to me. I met him before his last concert on the Higher Truth tour. I lucked out and got a meet n greet with him before his set. The coolest part of the night for me was when he walked out on stage and looked into the audience. He saw me in row 2 on the floor, and looked at me and smiled and pointed at me. He instantly recognized me after just meeting him of course, so that was very cool and such an awesome moment in my life. Thanks For all the great memories Chris. I will cherish your music forever! What a True gentleman, and it was such an honour getting to meet my hero.

The term masterpiece is defined as the "piece" produced by an artist or craftsman that declares them a master of their "art." Thus by definition, this song cannot be called a masterpiece. An earlier song claims that honor. Regardless this song still remains my second favorite Soundgarden song.

From around '92 - '96 was probably one of the greatest rock 'renaissances' in modern history. It wasn't 'hair band,' it wasn't 'new wave,' it was something totally new and 'groundbreaking.'
A huge driver for that was small clubs and underground venues, they built those bands and the audiences that grew around them. Nowadays most of those clubs are long gone...
great ,most excellent ears my friend. not many people listen to the vocals anymore not to say he does not look even better now than he did back then because for sure he does! but I can sit in the dark and just listen to him sing and he is one of the greatest of all time and I love to hear him saying with Eddie Vedder and others but hunger strikes will always be my favorite not just because that you would never singing it with you when they were in Temple of the dog but because the vocal range , they each have complements the other just like when they have sung with the who and Neil Young and many many others! For real… Take my advice, if you're still young, don't worry about the money, the name, or wasting your time on people who don't love you back. Because, the time really does slip by incredibly fast. Yea, I know… If you told me then, I would have said, “yeah yeah, hear it all the time…” Follow your gut, don't forget your people, and when life leads you off somewhere else, remember to return home to wherever those you call family still are. Because they are aging with or without you, and you can easily lose them before ever having spent the most important years of yours and their lives. And by then it's too late. Nothing is worth that.
I'm almost 60. Grew up with incredible singers from the 70's. Just discovered Chris Cornell a couple of years ago. Unbelievable vocalist! In my top 3 for sure. What a talent he was. This song will never grow old.
5 years. Its been five years since we lost our best friend. He still lives on in his music,but were in a dry desert without him. I'm sure we can all agree that Soundgarden brought us together and we may never meet in person,but we are always going to be dear friends when we meet here to listen to these,our musical hero's. I miss you Chris.

My dear late husband played guitar like a rock god & loved this band. He said Chris' voice could peel the paint from the walls at top volume. Great band, great music, great times.
Was working event security in the 90's at Mississippi nights and he actually thanked me shook hands for not roughing up a over zealous fan. We are gonna miss him
The first time I saw Soundgarden was at Mississippi Nights when they OPENED for Voivod. I think it was 1990. I watched Voivod with Kim. We both just stared at Michel Langevin in amazement.
+Sean Ryan Collective Soul is a good band and make really good songs. I feel Pumpkins werent a great band as Seattle bands. However I like some tracks from Siamese and Infinite. But grunge bands are really amazing, nowadays rock scene is poor, except Rival Sons

@@tureluur159 Yes, I think I know which clip you mean, but I believe that wasn't for the recording session for one of the albums, but during one of the last Nirvana sessions at Robert Lang studios in 1994, where Nirvana recorded "You Know You're Right"... I'm not 100% sure on this, but this is what I remember...
I would say the R&R Hall of fame would be cool but its also overrated. It's all subjective time and time again and whoever votes them in are a bunch of hipsters & hipocrats. I looked again quick to confirm but here's a list of other bands that should obviously be in there too, but aren't. So again...it truly doesn't mean jack squat and SG doesn't need that validation. Foghat, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Pantera, and gotta throw in Iron Maiden & Slayer who are all not in the inconsistent hall of fame.

Incredible Voice, deep lyrics and a very talented musician. Probably the most original sound out of the grunge rock era. The music style with Chris's voice is mind blowing for sure. Always will love it.

There is a wonderful support group for this i found on facebook --it's called chris cornell/soundgarden forever. Everyone there is super nice. Its a closed groups so no trolls, once you are accepted you'll see it is very supportive.
The fact that Soundgarden wasn't inducted into the rock and roll Hall of Fame the year Chris Cornell died and STILL HAVEN'T really boggles my mind. They could but it was a no-brainer 5 years ago
September 1996 - Freshman in high school. I hung with the older kids and smoked grass constantly. There were always a few pads where we could hang after getting stoned in the woods. I remember sitting on a couch in one of them, zoned out, watching this video. I liked it. I liked it a lot. In 96 we were introduced to most music through MTV (taking it for granted, thinking it had always been that way and it would always stay that way. Little did I know - like the VCR and video store - it just blew up like '82 and it would be dead in about six years). Soundgarden was huge in 94=95 and this was the first tune off their new album. As a burnt out teen who gave a fuck about nothing, this was cool. I was totally content with the content the mass media and pop culture were feeding me. This song struck me. Chris Cornell's vocals reached the highest levels I'd ever heard in mainstream music. This wasn't even raw - it was polished and perfect. Ethereal. There was no identifying with it, like we did with Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley, thinking maybe, someday we could do what they did. No. This voice was just like WOW. You were to listen and dig. Sad to hear of your passing Chris Cornell. You left behind some awesome music and it will live on. RIP brother.

Chris's lyrics were dark and deep, showing a high level of spiritual awareness at an early age. To get to that level early he really must have experienced quite a few of life's curve balls. The best creative artists, in my view, are the ones who have trekked through hard times.

I don't think he was ever diagnosed with anything, but the theme of "being a burden" was always prevalent in his lyrics. I have had some days where I felt the same, but it passes. You must reach out when you feel this way. I am lucky to have a great support network and am able to identify the onset of these feelings. I never took it seriously until one whole week it nearly drove me past whatever happens after insomnia. Deep bouts of depression should be taken seriously. Thank you Chris for your lyrics that provide solace in times of despair. You will be deeply missed.
Sounds like you've had your share and then some. I've never been as low as u have but I've been on Prozac and elavil for years and it's been what's helped me. I sincerely hope u get better cause nobody should have to live in that state of mind cause it's an ugly place. Good luck to u.
He had a prescription for psychiatric medication apparently, so he was definitely diagnosed with something- doctors don't prescribe these pills without a diagnosis.

Years later and still too early for him. I've been binging his videos all night. Still can't believe he's gone. His vocals alone, not to mention his incredible lyrics, were par to none. He and his multiple bands had out of this world sound with gigantic vibrations when you turn the volume to exponential numbers. I only wish I could have gone to one of his band's concerts, preferably Soundgarden, but would gladly substitute for Temple or Audio Slave if I had to. R.I.P. Chris C. Your voice will never be surpassed or bested. You were only true to your words.
This song is really neat. It makes me feel neat. The tuning of the guitar is crazy, the vocals are great, lyrics are really cool..., It brings me down... but then rubs my back until I feel better.
FYI - the tuning is not "crazy." It is "open-c:" C-G-C-G-C-E. Very common. Pretty Noose is also in open-c. Just a word to the wise. Not trying to be an asshole. If you're curious just google it.
I guess I meant rare tuning. I don''t know tons of songs in open C. I tuned to it once and it seemed strange in that the stings seemed very "flubbery" to me.

Soundgarden had such great songs, and a great lead singer. Chris Cornell's voice is unlike anyone else I have heard. he was depressed though. it's sad that he hinted at it in all his songs and his lyrics. it's amazing he lived until 52, struggling with depression. he may have had moments where he was happy, but the thing with depression is that it never truly leaves. it hides inside, and everyone think the person who has depression is fine. I think Chris was very strong for holding himself together despite his obvious unhappiness.
My uncle died in 2019 of liver failure, a direct cause of this was the fact that he drank 2 bottles of wine per day. This song coincidentally played on the radio the day after his funeral while I was driving home from work. Enjoy your beers, wines and whiskey, but please enjoy it in good company and in moderation.

I have the greatest story about this song. I was kicking dope, for one of many times thru the '90's, (heroin, for non-seattelites), and on my 3rd day of misery, I woke to my alarm clock and the most beautiful summer morning, and my alarm clock was playing this song, in 1999, I think,, but I heard it from beat one) It was a beautiful sun coming in the window, combined with this amazing song that stirred me. Biggest condolences to Chris's family, and Chris, I hope you're in a better place and having done for you what you've done for me.

I got blessed with one ticket and a backstage pass to see Soundgarden at Universal Amphitheater 12/2/96 on my Birthday- I’ll never forget it. This tune brings back so many memories. I think this band will be treasured for eons after we’re all gone. They’re that good in my opinion. RIP Chris. ☮️
