REMASTERED IN HD! Music video by Soundgarden performing Pretty Noose. (C) 1996 UMG Recordings, Inc. #Soundgarden #PrettyNoose #Remastered #Vevo #Rock #OfficialMusicVideo
RIP Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland. You guys created one of the greatest genres of music and I'll always be listening. Thank you.
Before the internet you felt so lucky to stumble across such a video on television. And the enthusiasm would grow to buy the record because of such a rare treat. All the associations leading up to buying the record, physically, would only add to the experience. In the digital age of consuming music - we’ve lost something precious.
I was just going to say this same thing in the digital internet age, there is nothing left to be desired. Everything in an instant. A blessing and a curse. Definitely not good for generations who never experienced a simpler time
Even after all the years and Chris Cornell’s passing this band is still making new diehard fans. Music is a big part of my life and I can say Soundgarden is my favorite band right now, after listening to Superunkown for the first time this year.
I am one of new die hard fan. I used to be listening to pop music. Just started listening to soundgarden 2 years ago. I gave up Pop Music and started to be fan of Rock music.
Even if Chris Cornell wanted to overdose oh yeah to do was overdose on his painkillers, How would he have to put himself through the next level of agony
Daskaar they use to overplay Smashing Pumpkins "Bullet with Butterfly Wngs" all da fucking time...haha! Those were good days watching MTV countdown!! Then Single Out with Jenny McCarthy
Kim Thayll is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. And Matt Cameron has always been a monster on the drums. And then Ben Shepard with the killer bass line.
The solo is one of Kim's best. They were all amazing... grew up on Soundgarden. Happy I got to finally see them live a few years before Chris killed himself. RIP Chris.
Kim was the reason I never took guitar lessons 😆 "You don't need them kid. Express yourself not what someone teaches you. You might end up sounding like someone else". 20 years later when I cut my teeth as a gun slinger I always remembered that.
Matt Cameron really shines when he's playing with Soundgarden. When he's playing with Pearl Jam not really. He deserves more credit than what he currently gets.
He belongs in Soundgarden, that's his sound completely. With Pearl jam he sounds like Pearl jam, an it's still tight, but I feel like Soundgarden is more him, he shines through better with them an it's his o.g band.
many people say how can a person like chris who was so loved do what he did..the problem is no matter how much other people love you, how much money, fame and cars you have, there is only one person we spend our whole lives with, YOU. if You dont love You, there is no fix. I speak from experience, and it saddens me to see chris and chester gone now, as I lost my father. A man so deeply admired by so many, The real sadness is that the person didn't find the love in themselves to stick around. We all want to cry and say he left us, but he also left himself. Stay good everyone and love yourself.
So young... there was a time where I scoffed at depression and anxiety, where I judged those who talked about how "down" they were with flippant disregard... till I went through it myself. I can tell you from experience, it isn't really being low, it's the up and down, and when it comes in waves, overwhelming you, drowning you in negativity, fear, and when it seems like it takes all your effort just to take a breath, it is really really hard to cling to whatever remnants of positivity (if any) you have left. Mine was event based and thank goodness temporary, but it gave me at least a little insight into what it is like for those who have chronic depression and how difficult it is to live with it. Never talk down, never judge, until you've walked in their shoes. I used to do just that, never again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Justin It's my favorite Soundgarden tune. Just wish it didn't have to become a reality. I knew it was gonna be a long day at work, but hearing about it on NPR during the drive in is no way to start the day. Rest in peace.
How they even came up with this track is unreal. It's not your typical guitar playing. I may love James Hetfield, Dimebag Darrell and Mark Tremonti's guitar skills, but Chris definitely also has that high end rythm guitar skill as well.
+777Lateralus 5 good songs? An which five from Sound Gardens catalog would you say those tracks are? You know what hasn't changed since the 90's? Music Nazis that try and oppress other people's likes and dislikes by making moronic statements about bands they know nothing about?
they rlly don’t when the “big 4 of grunge” gets brought up their usually the last to get mentioned and it’s annoying when PJ or Nirvana get brought up first yeah they’re good but not Soundgarden and AIC good
It's crazy how many of Chris's songs referenced suicide and death. Instead of talking to someone about his feelings, he chose to write about them. In turn, leaving us with some of the greatest music ever!!! Rest easy friend
Was it Brad Pitt or somebody would say that he'd be there at the house, and the ladies would just watch and listen to him play. That voice, that wail. That talent.
I listen all the time and i just thought....damn ...so talented...that voice...seen him live a bunch...went to the top row in the far corner of jones beach new york during the show to puff and all i thought with my friends was wow...his voice is still ripping all the way back here...it just went up to the sky. A one of a kind talent for sure
This is one of my favourite Soundgarden tracks. Sounds still so refreshing compared to much of current rock music. Soundgarden were one of the most sophisticated grunge era bands with their chord structures. Their chord structures are just so fucking cool especially on songs like this. And I've always loved Matt Cameron's drumming, a very essential part of the Soundgarden sound just like Dave Grohl was for Nirvana. They are both drummers who's playing draws ones attention unlike many other drummers.
As a teenager living in 2023, i find it so sad that barely any of the kids my age listen to this amazing music. I feel like the new world of music only revolves around people like Taylor Swift and ice spice but people forget to look back at the masterpeice that is grunge rock. RIP Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Layne Stayley, Andrew Wood, and all of the amazing grunge rockers who have passed away.
its good to know the younger crowd still keep this stuff alive. lol you got me with andrew wood kid so many people even my age have no idea about mother love bone, good on you.
listen to Matt Cameron's drumming on the outro to "somewhere" transcendent and blissful. I'm a drummer and that is some of the best patterns I've heard
Alice in chains are my personal favourite of this era. But soundgarden are a supergroup unto themselves. Imagine how Chris must have felt playing in front of those 3.... the individual musical personality and chemistry they have is lightning in a bottle.
Saw them at reading festival in 1995. Didn't realize it then but how lucky was I to see them. Great singer, great band, great time to be alive. RIP Chris.
Many people may see this song as a premonition of what happened. But I see it as him finding strength in a situation and telling the person who defined him in that moment that he was done with their control over him. This song is him showing strength in the best way he could.
The Guitar work is by Kim Thayil, one of the nost gifted Guitarists of Grunge era. Add Matt the drummer, Ben the Bassist & Chris 'the howler' Cornell and u get the best band of 90s
Thought I was gonna end myself one day with life's stress today, but sung my lungs out when this song came on, did a huge sigh, and took a step back to look at myself. Thankful for music to pull us from when we're under the fires of life.
+Crabmaster had? no sir, I'm going to be 32 in a week and my teenage days are here to stay. not saying I don't have responsibilities now but I'm going to stay young till I die!
Werd. I was about 12 when grunge exploded through '92, and it was the perfect soundtrack for that interesting and mind-expanding transition from preteen to teenager. Soundgarden...Alice In Chains...Nirvana...Pearl Jam....Temple of the Dog...Mother Love Bone...Helmet...Chili Peppers...Faith No More...STP...Metallica...GnR...Tool. What a time to be alive. My world revolved around MTV, anime, videogames (Were you a Genesis or Super Nintendo guy?), and cute girls. Pretty much like my world today (minus MTV...RIP), but it was all fresh and new and exciting back then.
When I was 14 (1995) my mother died, and Soundgarded helped me through "hey, guess what? You are not the only one who is depressed." I got through it, thanks to Soundgarden. Seeing Chris Cornell died was brutal.
RIP, Chris!! This song (and band in general) got me through some really tough times when I was younger, and it still does today. I know how it feels to be unhappy even though lots of people love you. It is not easy, and sometimes it feels like it gets worse the older I get, but I am trying my best!! I've made it 48 years so far ☺ To anyone out there who is suffering from the same feelings, just know that you are not in this alone, and I love you. ♥ Anyway, that's all I have to say. This dude is off to listen to some more awesome tunes. ✌ y'all!!!
Sound Garden a awesome group, Chris Cornell awesome Singer sad he passed away was near my age may Chris Cornell RIP 💐 I'm glad you made it to 48,I'm 57 I understand how it can be,my brother Barry told me before persevere, never give up ❤
I dedicate 2021 to Soundgarden. Can't believe it took me till age 26/27 to really get into them. I was (and still am) an Alice in Chains fanboy lol, but for this strange period in my life, SG has just really struck a chord or two. I remember when Chris died a few years ago and I thought "damn, that's a bummer." Now... I very much wish the guy was still around making music.. or just living his own life for that matter.
This song is gonna be difficult to listen to from now on... Depression is truly an awful thing and it pains me so much that a man so loved and who had so much to live for could see no light at the end of the tunnel... I just wish I could give him a big hug and can't imagine how his family must feel. We have lost a legend but he will never be forgotten. I am so upset... Rest in peace. X
Josefine Lea well said for I know exactly how he felt,as I myself deal with the same battles as he did&then some&have my whole life...sadly,there's not much that we can do to help ourselves with the battles that come from within ourselves,as well as on the outside...all we can do though,is to keep up the good fight and rage against the awful storms that come from within or out,to save ourselves from this beautiful thing we call life, but yet a lot of times,it's very sad&ugly...I pray that this beautiful man's truly at peace now,he was such a talented, sweet, humble&beautiful soul, that only wanted to sing his wonderful music with his phenomenal voice&to truly be loved, the way that he loved, which was wholeheartedly...I myself, don't think that he ever got that...#RIPUSWEETAMAZINGBEAUTIFULMAN #ILLALWAYSLOVEU#UWNBF 😍😔❤️💔✝️🎶🎤🎸🔊
"'Fell on Black Days' was like this ongoing fear I've had for years ... It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting-when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked." If you've seen "The End of the Tour" you will find that these words are stunningly similar to things that David Foster Wallace (who also hanged himself) said. RIP, Chris
I remember the day this album came out. It was really sunny, late spring and my girlfriend picked me up from school in her green Honda Accord. We drove around listening to the album...she had a denim mini skirt on, and it became increasingly hard for me to pay attention to the cd. I made it through though...Thanks for the memories Jennifer. Man she had some legs!! P.S. I went to Lollapolooza that summer to see Soundgarden, Metallica, The Ramones, Screaming Trees, etc. What a great time in my life, I was 18 and everything was wonderful. She broke my heart 3 years later, but when I hear a Soundgarden song I am back in that Honda, totally in love with her, the music, the sunshine, denim skirts...
so many cool bands during my teenage years. soungarden was just one of them. each week each month you hear new cool bands on mtv... in my view 90's was the golden age of rock music.
Christopher Turney cool! Someone told me about them on RU-vid this year and they are insane. All of their KEXP stuff is incredible. Def check out “crumbling castle” too! 🤟🏻
SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.
I often come back to Soundgarden tracks when I need inspiration to write heavy metal tracks. Chris is such an underrated guitarist, that it's not even funny. The whole band just kicks ass.
Chris Cornell was one of the most beautiful men on this earth and one of the most awesome vocalists ever!!!! I wish you were still here. You still should be here.
I still can't believe this beautiful, talented soul is no longer here anymore! Feels like a close friend has died. Thank you for the amazing 25 years, Chris! Rest easy, friend.
My first Soundgarden album that i owned. I played at a friend's house and he had a powerful music system. He was not into rock, and this song fuckin freaked him good time.
This album from the time I heard it is phenomenal. there is not a rock band today who come up with an album this good from start to finish. Its a total masterpiece
This was my favorite Cornell tune. It's gotten me through some really rough times, and sadly with his death, this is an unfortunately appropriate song. RIP Chris.
You've touched my heart and soul more than just about any musician on the face of this earth. Today, for the first time in my 23 years on this planet, I cried and wept like a baby over a "celebrity" death.Although you've never known me, I have known and loved you dearly since childhood.RIP Chris
i have been here twice as long and would have said same 23 yrs ago and still in agreement with that now! i just dont think it possible for any other to have such an impact on me. thank you for putting that into words for me.
Cornell and staley are my 2 favourite vocalists of all time,Cornells death was a tough one to take because I thought he would be making great music for years to come.
I saw them in 1994 super unknown tour, right after k.cobain died, they seemed so sad like it really affected them too. They didn't even do out-shined , people screamed it out half the show, but it didn't matter All their stuff kills. Really sincere dudes that play from the heart man.RIP Chris Cornell he sure could wail. must be tough being a rock star.
Does it get any better than this? Yes, yes it does, the legend lives on in our hearts, and it makes all that much sweeter. Chris Cornell, one of the greatest voices in rock ever.
One of the craziest voices around. His range was off the charts. How tf he could stay in that high octave range for the majority of some songs without destroying his vocal cords is insane. Chris was definitely built different. Not to mention being an amazing songwriter. Huge loss 😢
I caught the moon today Pick it up And throw it away all right I got the perfect steal A cleaner love With a dirty feel all right Fall out and take the bait Eat the fruit And kiss the snake goodnight Common ruse dirty face Pretty noose is pretty hate And I don't like What you got me hanging from Let your motor race Pick it up And get this mother gone Out from and far away The wooden stake This thing has got me on Diamond rope silver chain Pretty noose is pretty pain And I don't like What you got me hanging from I don't care what you got I don't care what you need I don't want anything And I don't like What you got me hanging from
I remember getting this album right after it came it out. I played that thing on repeat for weeks, my CD player never saw a different disc. They just kept experimenting with different tunings, played more in odd meters, explored weirder lyrical territory (I'm looking at you Never Named), and I couldn't listen to it enough. Sat behind my drums trying to figure out this song for hours, day after day. That is how huge this album was to me. That being said, I forgot how shit this video is.
When I heard that Chris died, I was in the car driving, crying my eyes out. I was devastated. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. RIP to such a humble and fun spirit. Love you 😭❤️
I used to feel so much sadness involved on Soundgarden's songs, they made me reflect a lot. One of the first bands alongside Alice in Chains and Pantera that presented to me, music that I actually enjoyed. I'll be forever grateful for them for that. R.I.P. Chris, you're truly missed.
I agree w poster above. Those 3 bands are 3 of my favorites too and its sad that one of the main forces in all 3 of those bands have lost their lives decades too soon.
"I got the perfect steal, a cleaner love with a dirty feel....alright". Perfect. Chris, Layne, Kurt, Scott...... just unfuckingbelievable. They changed the entire music scene with music that stands up with any band in history. In my humble opinion.
