His vibrato, the way he use distortion with high notes..... Feels raw, powerful and beautiful all at the same time. Chris Cornell was unmatchable at his prime!!!
Chris Cornell is easily the greatest rock singer I’ve ever heard ....there are a lot of #2’s: Maynard,Layne,Robert Plant,Eddie,Bruce Dickinson,etc....there’s only one #1 though & it’s this man right here
This song is such a beautiful display of how versatile Chris's voice was. It wasn't until Superunknown that I feel like he started flexing his rich lower registers while using his higher ones artistically and it's fucking fantastic. Nobody sings like him anymore.
I’m always amazed at how versatile Cornell was as a singer. His trademark, powerful high notes aside, he inhabited each song individually. This same ability was what made him such a outstanding cover singer, imo.
The extremely minimal amount of effects is truly remarkable. His solo voice is fuller than most doubled vocals. His doubled vocals sound like 4 tracks.
Lots of false information here. They actually used several mics on his voice for each take on this album. That explains the thickness. However he had a hard time hitting notes on several songs so the mixing engineer had his work cut for him.
@@PantsofVanceThese songs are hard as fuck to sing, even for Chris. The difference is, he sounds better than everyone else when he gets the perfect take
My band covers this song and man, it is SUCH a help to me as the vocalist to hear it isolated like this. Obviously I can't sing it as well as Chris but hey, I'm at about 80%!
My boy is gone nearly 4 years and SU came out right before my 18th birthday and to know this track is going on nearly 28 years since being recorded and still listening to Chris nearly everyday...this is the first time I heard Mailman isolated like this and it immediately gave me chills right down my spine. The voice of a God!
My favorite part of listening to all his isolated vocals is his own background vocal harmony. He was so incredibly polished in every detail of his music
This is the song that made me start TRULY appreciating what a great singer he was. Up until this song, I thought he was just a great screamer. Plus, these lyrics are just incredible! "I know I'm headed for the bottom, but I'm riding you all the way"?! DAMN...
Look it up, if you look this song up it's Matt that came up with the best and most of the lyrics on this song. I found it interesting I didn't know until a couple days ago. It's been years.
One of my favourite endings to a song ever - all the simmering tension built throughout the song releases through these powerful screams and it just feels amazing as a listener. Chris wasn't just an oustanding singer, he was also a great musician who brought a lot of creativity and somehow found catchy melodies that fit the weird riffs & time signatures of Soundgarden. Nice touch leaving the drum track in. The vocals alone can be slightly jarring when there are instrumental parts to a song.
Hey, thanks. Sorry, RU-vid deleted my channel for some copyright infringements, unfortunately I lost a lot of material, but I will upload what I do again
“No one sings like you anymore” Hello don't you know me I'm the dirt beneath your feet The most important fool you forgot to see I've seen how you give it Now I want you to receive I’m sure that you Would do the same for me I know I'm headed for the bottom But I'm riding you all the way For all of your kisses turned To spit in my face For all that reminds me Which is my place For all the times when You made me disappear This time I'm sure you will Know that I'm here I know I'm headed for the bottom But I'm riding you all the way My place was beneath you But now I'm above And now I send you a message Of love A simple reminder of what You won't see A future so holy without me I know I'm headed for the bottom But I'm riding you all the way.
WOW!!!! Thank you, thank you. As a singer, this is unbelievably helpful and fascinating to be able to listen to Chris' vocals like this. Some serious insight. Would it be at all possible to snag just the drum track? Rock ON!
Chris Cornell truly is the GOAT. There will never be another talent who even comes close. I'm so grateful to even have been alive at the same time as him.
Lyrics Hello, don't you know me? I'm the dirt beneath your feet The most important fool you forgot to see I've seen how you give it Now I want you to receive I'm sure for you would do the same for me 'Cause I know I'm headed for the bottom I know I'm headed for the bottom I know I'm headed for the bottom But I'm riding you all the way Yeah, I'm riding you all the way I'm riding For all of your kisses turned to spit in my face For all that reminds me which is my place For all of the times when you made me disappear This time I'm sure you'll know that I'm here 'Cause I know I'm headed for the bottom I know I'm headed for the bottom I know I'm headed for the bottom But I'm riding you all the way Yeah, I'm riding you all the way I'm riding you all the way I'm riding you all the way Riding Riding all the way My place was beneath you but now I am above And now I send you a message of love A simple reminder of what you won't see A future so holy without me I know I'm headed for the bottom I know I'm headed for the bottom I know I'm headed for the But I'm riding you all the way Yeah, I'm riding you all the way I'm riding you all the way Oh, I'm riding you Yes, I'm riding you Oh, I'm riding you Yes, I'm riding you Oh, I'm riding you all the way
Yeah, no effects really. He just crowded the mic and screamed-dead on pitch-straight into the capsule. The distortion was literally from overloading the mic. Unbelievable.
