I am closer to the Appalachian MT's and this sounds very similar to what I hear every night ; love it! The birds wake me up and the bugs put me to sleep! When I hear all of nature praising our Creator; it challenges /entices me to join in with my form of praise!
Thank you for posting this. I've been falling asleep to the katydids, crickets and tree frogs for a few nights now. The heat and humidity have broken and I can sleep with the windows open and just listen and relax. Last night there was complete silence, no one chirping at all. Praying it resumes tonight. Not ready to say goodbye to the night sounds.
Thank you for posting this! Although I prefer living on the West Coast, I do miss katydids and lightning bugs from my childhood back East. To me, this is the sound of summer!
These are the soothing sounds of summer I grew up with in Ohio. Listening to this takes me back to a wonderful time in the 1960's when I was young. Thank you so much for posting this.
what if it's a constant sound not an occasional call like we hear on this video? (in the Smokeys), oh and in the Smokeys, there are still bears around. plenty of them, wild turkeys as well. also, there are other animals. Let me know what you've seen. I even saw deer up in the roaring fork auto-trail.
Still get to hear these sounds lulling me to sleep at night, in the heart of Chicago. Katydids are surprisingly plentiful here, but no where near as plentiful as they are in the forests. Katydids also make a slower, more discreet clicking sound as well, just a single click or a series of a few individual clicks, and then you'll hear an answering click or two elsewhere. Somehow, it's a very prehistoric sound to me. I love the night sounds that so many of us have sacrificed to the drone of air conditioners.
Thank you for posting; this will sound weird, but now I know how to better describe my tinnitus! I've had it for several years (after being exposed to a sudden loud noise) and always described the sound I hear constantly as "insects on a summer evening." (In fact, I thought the sound WAS insects until I realized I was the only one hearing them!) Now I know those specific insect noises are katydids. I am lucky to have a soothing sound in my head all the time instead of a klaxon, I suppose! Thanks again for this informative video.
I miss the sounds of home. Up here why I am now the night is just dead silent, it's worse when there's a foot of snow on the ground and in the trees because it cancels out noise even further.
One of these flew in my damn house. It had the nerve to make this sound. 😳 Well, he flew in, but he was carried out... in a bagless vacuum container. No shame in my game
