NYC subway stations are smelly and ugly, full with cracked tiles and very often have broken or burnt fluorescent lights. They should've renovated the stations 20 years ago. Even my country's metro system have platform screen doors on all stations. Also despite their modern appearance, NYC subway trains still looks outdated because of it's exposed stainless steel, they could at least paint their trains. US just like their tasteless trains.
@@mleonee Stainless look might be iconic, but painting the trains wouldn't necessarily ruin it. Stainless look makes sense in cities like NYC and Chicago, but would look out of place outdated certain environment. Also NYC used to have red trains, nicknamed Redbirds. Modern trains have black on their front-ends
The subway is magical, it is a world which allows yourself to go back in time to an era mostly forgotten and abandoned. If you close your eyes hard enough, the golden age of 1920's-1950's rapid transit is still alive. This despite it almost 100 years. To think those same screeching sounds were the ones generations of people in the past also heard. Then to think those are the same rail paths the original IRT's and BMT's cars took. Lastly the stations original tiling, support beams, designs, and mosaics on the wall. Generations of people past seen those as well. Every time I get goosebumps. Riding the subway allows me to fulfill an impossible dream, to time travel to the best era in history. Artie Shaw's Begin the Beguine is ALIVE!! LONG LIVE THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE ELEVATEDS, SUBWAYS, AND TROLLEYS.
Me, three. However, I was lucky enough to become a station agent for MTA New York City Subway. And-I must admit-dealing with rude and obnoxious passengers was quite a challenge. And I was forced to leave for health reasons. But I enjoyed, as I like to put it, “playing with the world’s biggest electric train set.”
This is the soundtrack of my high school years. I’ve been in Connecticut for nearly 40 but the sweetest subway sounds to me will always be the Lexington Express Redbirds at top speed between 14th St and Grand Central 🥰
i thought i was the only one who found the nyc subway relaxing. i recently stayed near the jackson heights-roosevelt av station on my visit to new york…i really miss the sound of the 7 train at night. her beautiful rumble was like a lullaby to me every late evening, as i laid back contemplating how lucky i was to be in the most beautiful city in the world!
I used to live in Chicago when it was a beautiful city. I rode the trains daily....now I'm disabled and alone in a house in North Carolina. Many years have passed and this makes me yearn for being able to run up those stairs again and board the train! The subway was cool in the hot summer but I loved the above ground trains! I was so active and now I haven't been able to leave my home in a year. My consolation is knowing I'll be flying with Jesus someday 😊
2:22 there's a distinct sound of the R68's climbing onto the Manhattan bridge that I can't put my finger on but even when I'm in a slumber I can tell where I am when I hear that clear rumble.
Finally got to visit New York City after wanting to for so long, and this video brought back great memories. Yes, the subway is noisy and dirty and crowded, but the way it transports you through the city is magic, and there is so much history. We found the station agents to be tremendously helpful. Can't wait to go back.
Being someone who’s been on the NYC Subway several times throughout his life and enjoys it so much, this is amazing ASMR! I can relax to this! Nice work MTA! Love this!
The subways I have here, in Germany, are nothing compared to the New York City Subway, despite some of the sounds being the same, like the screeching trains when they hit a tight curve. Man, I want to go there one day and take a ride on one of the most famous subway systems in the world (maybe my first ride will go to Yankee Stadium?) 🙂
Thank you for making this. These sounds were such a big part of my time living in NYC and listening to/watching this brought back so many memories + feelings.
We used to live in the bronx and my dad worked at manhattan and the clickity clackity sounds of the train was so annoying back then but when we went home to our home country, i never realized how much i miss riding the subway
For 15 years I traveled on these subways. The R160s, R43s, R28s, I remember being excited to see every train variation. And the fact it didn’t lose its charm and beauty is amazing.
I wish I seen this video sooner. I turned my headphones up to the max and just enjoyed the hell out them sounds. Despite me never being in NYC before, I find the sounds of it is so soothing. This video is certainly getting added to my favorites. Thank you MTA for the ASMR experience there. I hope to see you people soon. :)
“you know what else i love? the fact that you can feel yer train comin’ by the cool breeze blowin’ toward yous from the tunnel there. who needs air conditioning in july in the station, when the gloriousness of the train ya wants is nigh and offering a cooling wind like that”? - some dude from 1904, probably from da bronx there, standing on the platform at the bleecker street subway station.
I kinda think the Alstom ONIX propulsion sounds pretty weird. I’m usually not a big fan of screechy noises to be honest, and I do hope the R142’s have their ONIX propulsion (and their unnecessarily loud HVAC as well) replaced when they undergo their mid-life overhaul. The R160’s can keep their propulsion tho, both Alstom ONIX and Siemens SITRAC, when the time comes for their mid-life overhaul.
these are the sounds of long ago and far away, it is not like that anymore. I used to love the train & the sounds & fall asleep to them, no more, you can't rest, fall asleep, read or anything else, every minute on the minute they are telling you things you don't need to know - like watch your belongings, over & over & over again. If I could hear the sounds on this video I wouldn't have any complaints, but this is not IT anymore. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. this is already an antique.
I'm from Toronto, Toronto has a pretty good subway system with great noises (Look up the T1 subway train)... but theres just something about the NYC Subway that's more iconic... I yern to go back to NYC
Ive only skimmed through, but do they have a random cello player, a group of boys screaming "its showtime showtime..." etc? seriously missing out if that isnt included
Nope. Went ON NYC subway For first time over the weekend and my guy asked me if I did not sleep good...bc I kept falling asleep on the train from Penn Station to Long Island 😂😂😂 . I told him I slept great but the sounds make me sleepy 😂😂😂
Hi - I am looking to include subway sounds in my music - is this sound open to the public to use/ royalty free or should I search for a different sound. Thank you!
I do love to ride my R46 N trains or my R68 N trains or the R68A N trains from Coney Island to Queens or the R68 D trains from Coney Island to the Bronx to 205 street the last stop to there my MTA family live ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😭
I loved the sounds of the ol d R-1 cars when I was a kid. You could hear the motors as the train gained speed. The new subway cars to me have no personality to them. They're nice, don't get me wrong, but I will always love the older rolling stock
That sound doesn't really have a name, but it is a jingle, and it is part of the announcement that plays in stations. The little jingle plays first, and then an announcement plays.
I would pay hard cash to NOT HAVE TO HEAR THE CONSTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THE TRAINS THESE DAY! If not for alll the announcements I would enjoy the train lot lot more.
Announcements are essential for peoples to know when is the next stop or if any delay or something like that happens. Every system I. The world has announcements including china’s and Japan’s.
Why? The announcements are one of the most iconic aspects of the NYC Subway! I’ve never been anywhere else where the Subway system had unique & iconic announcements like NYC does. This is coming from someone who doesn’t live far from the city. That should say a lot 😂
