The True Spring Reverb revisits and reimagines the timeless combination of spring reverb and tremolo. The Source Audio engineering team put years of collective man-hours into capturing every nuance and idiosyncrasy of the spring reverb and tremolo effects from some of the music gear industry’s most iconic guitar amps and outboard gear.
The True Spring comes in a compact and durable brushed aluminum housing with stereo inputs and outputs, external expression and tap tempo control, and six preset positions. When combined with the Neuro Hub, the True Spring also features full MIDI functionality.
Dialing in a wide selection of gorgeous reverb and tremolo tones is simple right out of the box, but the True Spring also offers a far deeper set of editing abilities and unique routing options when connected to the Neuro Desktop Editor or Neuro Mobile App. Use the Neuro Editor to create highly customized presets, then save, store, and share them with the rest of the growing Neuro Community.

One Series True Spring Reverb Features & Specifications

• Three Flavors of Spring Reverb - Select either the Short or Long engines for spring reverb tones inspired by iconic combo amps, or the Tank engine for a “drippy” sound inspired by tube driven outboard spring tanks.
• Three Styles of Tremolo - Combine any of the spring reverb effects with any of the True Spring’s three styles of tremolo. Tremolo effects include Opto, Bias, and Harmonic.
• Two Modes of Operation - Use the pedal in Standard Mode for a classic (non-preset) stompbox experience or turn on Preset Mode and save a user preset (including reverb/tremolo effects and knob positions) to each of the three toggle switch positions.
• Flexible Stereo Routing - The True Spring is equally at home in a mono or stereo rig. The pedal’s stereo inputs and outputs offer a variety of routing options such as Stereo to Stereo, Mono to Mono, Mono-to-Stereo, Stereo Sum-to-Mono and External Loop Mode.
• Compact Design - The durable, anodized aluminum housing has a small footprint and sturdy hardware that withstands the rigors of the road.
• Universal BypassTM - Select either analog buffered or relay based True Bypass.
• Neuro Technology - The Neuro Mobile App (iOS and Android) and Neuro Desktop Editor (Mac and Windows) open up new possibilities for the True Spring, including deep effects editing, advanced signal routing, and access to the Neuro Community. Create customized presets that can be named and saved to the cloud. True Spring presets can be made private or shared publically with other members of the Neuro Community.
• MIDI Control - Connect the True Spring to the Neuro Hub and access up to 128 presets with MIDI Program Change (PC) messages. Control any of the pedal’s parameters with MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) messages or assign tremolo modulation speed with MIDI Clock.
• USB Port - Class compliant USB-MIDI allows the True Spring to work as a plug-and-play device with recording software running on Mac and Windows. The USB port offers connectivity to the Neuro Desktop Editor providing access to deep editing possibilities and pedal firmware updates.
• Expression Control - Connect the Source Audio Dual Expression Pedal, or the Reflex Universal Expression Controller via the 1/8” Control Input port for simultaneous expression control of up to three parameters.
• External Tap Tempo - Use the Source Audio Tap Tempo Switch to tap in the tremolo rate with a choice of four different beat divisions (quarter, eighth, triplet, and sixteenth).
• External Tremolo Engage and Bypass - Use the Source Audio Tap Tempo Switch to engage or disengage tremolo effects on top of an already engaged spring reverb.

You've done it again, Mike. Great video, beautiful playing as always.

I got one. I must be deaf. It's thin and digital sounding. It kills my guitar sound particularly the bottom end and the harmonic complexity. It's like the sonic equivalent of bad CGI. Does something really weird to the dynamic response too. Not as bad as the Oceans 11 but it sounds like a toy compared to my original stand-alone Fender tanks. Yes it has drip but you pay for it. My Chinese Biyang RV10 reverb sounds way more organic and lush and, if anything, beefs up my core tone, a bit like an RC booster. I really tried to like this and listened to all the demos. YMMV. It sounds good online.....

That’s interesting as I haven’t heard anything bad about this pedal and the demos sound good. I’m kinda torn between this and a Strymon flint which looks much more user friendly. Good to hear a different take on this from someone who’s actually used it!

@@ajs808 As I said, I really wanted it to work. It was just 'uncomfortable' to play through. Don't not try one because of me. Give it a shot. Might work with your rig.

C. P. Thanks, I’ll try a few when things are back to something like normal with the virus. I never had a reverb pedal before, as I’ve always had reverb on my valve amps, and no pedal beats a good real spring! I just picked up a Strymon iridium amp mod and it’s amazing, so now looking for a good reverb/tremolo pedal to complete my board. The hunt continues.....

C.P.: my mileage DEFINITELY varies from yours! A “toy”?? What?? Are you a Source Audio-Hater, or competitor? The reviewer on ‘60 cycle hum’, RU-vid (Ryan?) has been reviewing reverbs so often and thoroughly on his surf focussed show, for so long, that I think he has achieved ‘expert’ status & judgements. In a recent Final Reverb Pedal Shootout, video, with thoughtful, intelligent analysis of 14 (or so) reverb pedals compared together, with especially an ear for authentic-sounding “Drip”, he ended-up with Surfy Bear as #1, and Source Audio True Spring 2nd, & Topanga 3rd. He puts the first two as “BETTER” than his personal Fender outboard tank & says he’s strongly considering selling his Tank since they sound better, are more controllable, cheaper, lighter weight, less temperamental, and less precious on the road/stage. I am impressed with Ryan, and 60 cycle-hum’s conscientious, thorough analysis, and conclusions. I’m keeping my True Spring, along with my Empress Reverb to cover MY reverb needs. I’m suspect of your objectivity and motivations for denigrating this marvel of spring reverb algorithms and design. Like every pedal in history, it’s not “perfect”, but, “a toy”………….outshined by Biyang??? B.S.! But, obviously, to each his own. I just didn’t want your diss to be the last word for readers, here, about the True Spring being reviewed. All, IMHO of course!

I have fun trying to duplicate the iconic tone & sounds of: 1) Ennio Moricone ‘Spaghetti Westerns’, 2) James Bond Theme songs, and 3) Classic Surf Songs, all with deep reverb & ‘Drip’. Surprisingly, I’m not fully satisfied with my Fender Twin Reverb amp’s reverb. I can’t afford, nor do I want to deal with a Fender outboard tube unit. So I’ve been turning to RU-vid demos. So far, I like this SA pedal, their Ventris Reverb & the big Surfybear Metal the most. I have the S.A. Nemesis & love it’s wide-ranging power and beautiful sounds, so my decision process is leaning Ventris. (Mike H. has guided me towards quite a few purchases with his fingers & tasty notes.)

How will it compare vs the Strymon Flint...? Harmonic Tremolo seems to be tricky to emulate - I got an Earthquaker Devices Nightwire as a more flexible Harm Trem than the Flint (IMHO), but it's Harmonic Trem only, no Optical or Bias Trem or Reverb... if the SA True Spring Reverb has the same flexibility via the Neuro app, it'll be top of a lot of people's lists...! When's the manual available ?
@sourceaudioeffects

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, there is a lot of added flexibility with the Neuro Mobile App. You can check out the True Spring Reverb manual on the SA website - www.sourceaudio.net/true_spring.html

I hate reverb pedals. But this.... Hey, am I the only one who watches Mike's stuff as much for his tasteful covers as for the gear?
@iantaylor917
@iantaylor917 5 лет назад
I'm consistently in awe of how he manages such quality arrangements that would stand alone, but then on top of it he mixes in ways to really show off the specific pedal's capabilities. And that is to say nothing of what a great player he is! None better as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. I wish they would make a True Spring the size of the Collider, so you could have Reverb and tremolo on separate footswitches. That would be fantastic.

The SA True Spring Reverb and the Strymon Flint are both TWO pedals in one, potentially turning an amp into an equivalent of any of several coveted Fender amps - instead of a Flint, I eventually acquired an Earthquaker Devices Nightwire for harmonic trem, a Catalinbread Valcoder for choppy trem, and a Keeley 30 ms for the Abbey Verb (all of which I really like, choosing each by sound rather than hype...), none of which are particularly 'expensive' pedals, but collectively, cost more than a Flint - I am impressed by SA gear (I also have a Programmable EQ and a Nemesis...) so the True Spring Reverb is welcome as a new alternative.

The true spring engine within the ventris is without question the best spring verb I've ever used other than a vintage fender outboard unit and believe me I've used them all. In a blind comparison you'd only be able to tell the difference because of tube hiss in the Fender. I'm really glad they came out with the standalone version of that algorithm in a smaller unit. I only wish I would have known that, otherwise I would have probably just waited instead of going with the ventris. That said, the ventris is easily my favorite pedal. They nailed the spring sound. And it's even cheaper than a Topanga, which as good as it is can't hold a candle to the true spring. SA keeps pushing that envelope
@guyac01
@guyac01 6 лет назад
I used to own a Peavey Valverb, which, in the '90s, was the best trem + spring reverb unit you could find (short of vintage Fender gear...) but the sound quality and flexibility of today's pedals makes so many things obsolete, or at best, one-trick ponies. These are great times...

how do switch trem into reverb to reverb into trem
@uwedasler425
@uwedasler425 Год назад
Late answer, but if somebody needs it: You can set the trem to be applied to the dry signal (w/o reverb), or the dry/wet mix (after reverb) in the mobile and desktop apps. If you use preset mode, this setting will also be part of the preset. When using the Neuro Hub or their new MIDI adapter, you can also alternate between these modes setting the "tremolo assign" parameter using a CC message.
