Source Filmmaker for beginners tutorial: Part 1 - basic setup, loading maps and importing characters 

Not sure what's happening there. The fact that everything is small makes it sound like it could be a screen dimensions thing perhaps? My screen is 1920 by 1080. What is yours? If your general resolution settings aren't matching your monitors dimensions lets say, then that might be the reason. Not too sure otherwise.

In the windows section enable auto hide engine window. Hope that helps!

It may be a windows layout thing. Go to the windows dropdown menu in Source Filmmaker, go to layouts and hit return to default layouts. If you still can't see the plus button but can see the animation set editor, right click in it and then you should be able to add what you need.

Not sure how to do that. It sounds like you'll need to find a way to convert the SFM particle files into particle files that Blender would recognise. But I don't know how that would be done. Some people have made tutorials on importing SFM models into Blender. I'm not sure if using the same or similar tools could be used to import SFM particles or not. But there might be tutorials on importing SFM particles into Blender as well.

did you restart source after you downloaded the map

Might be where on the map you loaded in at. Or, it could be a map with no lighting. Right click in the viewport and then uncheck enable lighting.

That does sound long for Source Filmmaker. Are you rendering into a video or a series of images? I usually render into a video, but my project file can usually be no more than 1 minute before having to divide my project up into multiple files.

Does it lag when you're using Source Filmmaker? I use to make a lot of my animations on an old ASUS laptop and SFM use to lag. I did a lot of my work with lighting disabled (which I did by right clicking the viewport and making sure that there's no tick next to "Enable lighting".)

I don't know too much about it myself, I think people use a Source tool called Hammer? Otherwise, you could import models of floors and walls and form an envirnment by positioning them. I actually did that for my Bendy animation. It was by far my most complex animation that I have made!

Do you have any workshop addons installed, or that are trying to install? It could be a case of Source Filmmaker trying to multitask.

Hey Austin! It's so great to hear from you. I sent you an email in response. I hope all is well with you:D

File>Export>Movie Format: MP4>H.264 If you don't have those options, download and install Apple's Quicktime, then restart your computer. Alternative option: In the export settings Export>Image sequence Once you chose how you would like to export your video, click the little dots in the top right corner to choose where you'd like to export it to. Once you've done that, click export in the bottom right corner. If it's an image sequence, have a dedicated folder for that export. Note: If you choose the image sequence approach, you will need a video editing program to have those images from the image sequence export to play as a video. In your editing program, you would need to import Source Filmmaker's export as an image sequence.

Try the valve's official tutorials they work but I lost all the information after a couple days so take notes!
