The source/vortex panel method code in this video is a combination of the source and vortex panel methods that I have used in my previous videos. This code solves some of the problems that were mentioned in my "Vortex Panel Method: Airfoil" video.
In this penultimate video of my Panel Methods series, we will look at how to populate the matrix system to obtain the solution of the source and vortex strengths. Then we'll go through a bunch of examples of different airfoils to see how well this method works. Comparisons of the lift coefficient, moment coefficient, and pressure coefficient to XFOIL will be made.
In the next (and last) video of this series, we will update this code to be able to work with any number of airfoils.

===== NOTES =====
→ The code is also available in Python, but I didn't include it in this video.
→ The streamline computation section in the Python code takes a really long time to run in comparison to the same MATLAB code. I'm assuming it has to do with the external function calls taking longer, but if you have any suggestions on speeding up that aspect of the code, please let me know.
===== ERRORS =====
→ If you see an error in the video, please let me know and I will include it here.

I hope you treasure that student version of matlab! I never realized how expensive it was.

Yea, that's why I've been trying to get into Python a little more. I've had this copy since I got this laptop, and I'll keep using it until it dies.

@@beachboardfan9544 Sorry for such a delayed response; RU-vid doesn't notify me when I get a nested comment for some reason (or maybe I just don't know where to look). I prefer MATLAB over Python in general, but that's probably because it's what I'm most used to (used it in undergrad, grad school, and work). Certain syntax things in Python annoy me, and I honestly just like the way MATLAB works in general. However, Python is really pretty great, and I just need to spend some more time using it. The main reason I still use MATLAB for most things is because I can quickly get the idea out of my head and into code in a single sitting, while with Python, I typically have to spend a bunch of time looking up the correct syntax for each function I want to use. I've started posting my code in Python though since it's good practice for me, and I know not everyone has access to MATLAB.

I was looking through your code, I believe CN should be the proper lift coefficient and not CL?

Hi sir, I didn't understand why u multiplied beta angle term in cn and ca coefficient, I tried for answer everywhere , can u give me a detailed answer please. The way you took cn and ca formula is very different from one seen in books so, please explain

I was wondering the same, does anyone have an idea ? I looked at different textbooks but I couldn’t come up with anything.

Hi greetings! . sir need your help. i am doing work on source panel method. I am done with matlab coding on matlab for 2D sphere.but i am having some issues in 3D panel placing on sphere. The issue is , i am not getting same shape panels instead i m getting mixture of saqure, triamgle panel on sphere. Plzz sir help me in this case.

Sorry, I haven't done any 3D paneling so I won't be able to help you here.

How can the panel method be extended to 3D ?
