I don't agree with the assumption that the Afrikaners invaded a land. They just landed on the coast of South Africa. When the British took over the Cape Colony from the Dutch the Afrikaners decided to leave (they were always a free-spirited and self-reliant people) and move inwards. South-Africa at the time had a very low population density. The Afrikaners/Boers settled somewhere on an empty wasteland and created their own civilizations. They didn't come with the intent to conquer other people at all. They weren't interested in the people, they were just refugees in a way. To me it seems like it went like this: South-Africa was empty and undeveloped --> Dutch came in the Golden Age and created a coastal colony --> the Dutch decided to expand the colony so that it could accommodate more poor folks from Holland --> The British took over --> many Dutch fled from British rule with wagons and horses, looking for a some land of their own (very brave venture) --> they were attacked by various 'native' populations and they defended themselves (i.e. Blood River), their livestock and children were stolen and they fought to get them back (see the story of Hendrik Potgieter) --> they settled in an uninhabited land (there were many at the time in SA) --> they prospered and employed more people (they also employed natives and they were treated in a Christian way (look up Paul Kruger's childhood) --> more Afrikaners followed --> they built two Republics and civilized their society --> they were conquered by the jealous British --> the British had to make concessions for their atrocities in the Boer War and therefore granted the Afrikaners some rights --> South Africa emerged --> Hendrik Verwoerd came along and invented a system to monitor the interaction between the Afrikaners and the different native peoples, which wasn't very good for the natives --> natives got angry and resisted, sometimes justified, sometimes not --> the international leftist community lobbied for natives' rights --> Apartheid abolished, but hatred of natives against the Afrikaners who actually built the civilization but also oppressed them in a way remained --> Plaatsmoorde, massive violence and insecurity in the country, corruption, chaos, racial tension (current situation). That's my take on the situation. Hope you agree.

@@TheRozair That's a very good overview :), I just watched the movie Ohm Krüger which is an excellent movie based on the book a man without a people and the second Boer war. It really makes you sympathize with the Afrikaners and makes you hate the Europeans that betrayed them in their struggle for self government.

They also spent tons of money on the development of the Bantustans (native homelands) within South-Africa out of their own purse... The people just remember the race segregation and forget all the good these people have done.
