New channel is a great idea. Lots of people want to hear your opinions before and after big games without needing to work yourself into the ground trying to do in depth videos on every game like previous tournaments
Thanks for a great discussion. Love to hear your views and analyses before a game, which really help us get better prepared for the relevant game. And how great that you are both on it. Good to remind the crowds that Squidge is both of you!!!!
Thanks squidgy. As an ireland fan my dread for this series was overtaking my excitement. You guys switched those round in the last 30 mins Also kudos on not making result predictions. Just looking forward to the game instead of the result.
He pulls made up theories out of his arse. Real rugby coaches laugh their tits off. "That's a 3-3-2 formation. Or is it a 4-2-2" ? "Fk it ill just draw circles anywhere" It's amazing how many different combinations you can dream up when you can draw circles of imaginary pods anywhere you want.
It is not often that I will sit through a RU-vid video watching two guys just chatting. You guys are brilliantly well informed and knowledgeable. Truly love this. Thanks
Love this podcast style analysis video. Maybe try to do a live stream of this to cover the whole weekend of rugby. Will give a chance to interact with fans as well. Also helps with the pressure of getting in depth videos out on time. Great jobs guys keep it up!
Squidge rocking the Wellington Lions shirt, I see you... (Also Squidge saying "for all you kids watching at home" shows he's slowly turning into a boomer commentator 😂)
Think this will be a 1-1 series. I'd love for the Boks to win both but Ireland is such a good team that they will win one. Just hope both games will be thrillers, clean and that there will be no controversies after the game.
@@zeroconnection I don't feel that we can count them out that quickly 😅. You guys (Ireland) are strong and I'm sure that I'll be close. You seem to have our number in the last few games.
@@zeroconnection for now maybe 😅 but we have an aging team at the moment, has me worried about the next few years. Anyways, hope the game this weekend is a good one (sadly couldn't get tickets, they sold out in mins), no more injuries and hopefully less TMO interventions 🇮🇪🇿🇦
Honestly, as an Irishman I can’t see South Africa losing this tomorrow. Ireland and Irish teams have very much been in the post-World Cup blues this season. All of the teams, from provinces to national side, have been below standard and the mix of continuity and less changes has kind of meant that there isn’t a feeling of a clean break for a new era. I like that Andy Farrell is experimenting with Jamie Osborne at fullback but honestly wished he’d go even further and blood other players. South Africa to win by 12
Andrew Porter cannot scrum when the ref is on his side, Youll see that every scrum penalty Ireland win, the ref is on the tighthead side. Porter hinges outwards and drills in, when the ref pings him for it the irish scrum struggles
As an irishman i can tell you the expectations for an ireland win in south Africa are very very low. Leinster and munster had a disappointing season, yes ireland won the 6 nations but the loss to England hurt as much as the quarter final world cup exit. The irish players need this series like a hole in the head. Where the boks seem to have an endless stream of players coming through Irelands strength in depth is very much lacking and so we are seeing the same players line out time and time again, and this will go against them tmrw. The boks are on a mission to get a win over ireland for the first time since 2017, ireland will lose both games here.
The Boks do have a endless stream of players. The bulls and stormers one, two seasons ago presented us with test level young eightmen and this year Hannekom, another test level young no.8 comes into the picture. Sasha is another freak talent
I think they definitely have looking at the age of our current players- many won’t have another World cup in them (our pack is like between 32 - 35). Glad we can start blooding new talent 👏🏻
Wow...as a Bokke and rugby supporter you are amazing at reading teams and the game. Prediction for the series 2-0 in Bokke favour. VIVA AMABOKKE VIVA X 4 world Champs...VIVA the G.O.A.Ts...in the same breath as a Southern Hemisphere team supporter respect to Ireland as worthy adversaries
First time I’ve watched you guys, loved it! I have always been put off by your intro. Anyway really interesting podcast, think you picked out loads of good points on both sides. Just hoping Jamie Osborne handles 15:ok and doesn’t feel out of his depth. Thanks ☘
Something that stood out to me from the wales game was the boks willingness to run against the grain. Go infield then suddenly turning out to look for gaps between drifting defenders. Tony brown has mentioned taking pollard back to the type of gainline running flyhalf from his early days but I suspect he wil be offloading right before contact to a forward pod who wil change their impact point as well. It looks like the boks won't try to outsmart the opponent but rather mentally fatigue them by constantly changing the picture and offering so many possible scenarios that defenders need to think more to the point where the physical fatigue and mental fatigue leads to performance loss.
i know it isn't the fashionable take right now, but i'm almost more interested to see an improving england team play scott robertson's new zealand. absolutely epic weekend ahead
This game will be very different from the one they played in the WC. The absence of Sexton, JGP and Keenan is massive. But this is still a class Ireland side. Then the Boks trying to evolve their game with the likes of Brown, will also change the dynamic on attack. Just hope they managed to shake the rust against Wales, because they will have to be sharp to beat the Irish.
Ahhh, more rugby! Looking forward to a entertaining, enthralling match. My hope is that there isn't any wierd-o officiating and both teams get to play w/15 players throughout the match. *I am baised towrds SA, but only by a squidest of margins.
Interest to come back to this after the fact. The 'team that does all the attacking vs the team that does all the defending with a great set piece'. Not sure which way round they were in the Loftus encounter but it was certainly not that cut and dried.
Squidge Rugby such a good analyst. South Africa should take him on as a consultant. Such a great insight into the game of Rugby. Hope Springboks win tomorrow. Cheers from Durban, South Africa.
Had to stop while watching this, when you got to the Jamie Osbourne part, and say how great this is. More squidge and a good overview. Will still love the bells and whistles videos but this is amazing. All killer, no filler. Unlike some other channels cough big jim rugby pod cough and any of the irish channels
You stopped listening because they didn’t talk about the boks? 😂 what .. and hey each country has their fair share of awful podcasts and South Africa is not immune to that
Every country has hate bait lad. Is it SA mag on tiktok this week who said Irelands best player was CJ stander? In the same year sexton won wpoty no less 🤣 they know the clocks =$$$ as do all those channels.
One thing you didnt mention is a sold out loftus… the crowd is going to be crazy. For Ireland to win they must try silence the crowd and deal with the altitude. Not going to be easy.
Altitude more problem than crowd. Ireland have learnt to perform away from home in big games French in Paris English in Twickenham All blacks in Christchurch
Duane Vermeulen was an absolute game changer for the Boks over the years on defense and the breakdown. But not only that, he was a game changer when it mattered most. His contributions were timed to perfection. We owed him so many wins from last minute turnovers, great high ball takes or dominant hits. Roos just cannot offer what Duane offered and there's an argument that even Kwagga doesn't offer the same set of skills (His lack of aerial game). But Kwagga is the best possible replacement for Duane at the moment. Maybe Hanekom in the future.
@@colmcronin7306 I’m not a Bulls fan. You’re missing the point. You’re obviously not very bright, so I’ll explain it to you. Just because the Bulls have lost some games there, doesn’t mean my point isn’t valid. The Bulls have always had an incredible record at Loftus, and few losses doesn’t change that. The Springboks also have an incredible record at loftus. You can continue to choose ignorance if you like. The crowd, and altitude are major factors.
@@jameswyatt4443 U switched between the bulls and SA national team U dolt so don't get your panties in a bunch when you're misunderstood. Look up your nations educational standards before talking down to others and realise rugby's Ireland's third most popular sport.
I think you guys are missing how average Leinster was against the Bulls. Porter was in trouble. It will be interesting to see whether they are able to step it up a gear and then how they handle the bomb squad. Also, we may go 7-1 if Faf doesn't recover. Big game for Sasha. Love the Tony Brown analysis and the Ireland Fullback analysis. Very good. How about a cross over podcast with @sarugbymag boys?
That is true for the Semi. But in March Leinster absolutely embarrassed the Bulls. So Id say its not the talking points you think. It's more the other Irish Provinces are not firing in reality and some Irish players are showing signs of age at this stage. Where a physical force like SA can take advantage of.
If you really think that the Irish scrum can out scrum the Springboks then you are living in la la land. Ireland is going to have to find another way because the scrum route absolutely will not work out.
Yeah it's like a car crash in slow motion you know how physical it Will get especially after the game in the world Cup that was an absolute arm wrestle.
there's no confusion who's no.1 and who's no.2, but this game will hopefully just again show Europe why we are the wc champs and end any foolish debate that you still holding onto. finished and klaar.
You guys are excellent, but careful.not to take ok too much!! Irish and frankly my own wish with this game is that the outcome is still.in the mix with 15mins to go. Reckon is SA today.
I think Ireland would have the edge, if the game was played at any venue other than Fortress Loftus. I have never seen so much raw emotion at a stadium for just a normal Bok game. But a game like this, it is going to take things to another level.
I don't know it's thought just depends on how each team protect the ball. Loftus will be tough altitude is really tough even for pro athletes. I don't know of Ireland have the fire power to be honest. The boks edge the pack and have the more settled half back combo. But if Ireland can click they are a different beast under Andy Farrell it will be a tough game.
Springboks arenactially playing a kicker in this game so they wouldnt even have the edge in ireland because Springboks lost the last 2 games based off missed kicks.
SA world No1 World Champions and playing at home, they should expect to win both tests, just hope Ireland after a long season turn up and we get two great tests..
@@davidwalker2402 international team with 1 game in 12 months vs 2nd ranked international team with almost 8 games under there belt???? There are many things that are clear and obvious but who is going to win is not one
One thing you didnt mention is a sold out loftus… the crowd is going to be crazy. For Ireland to win they must try silence the crowd and deal with the altitude.
Do you guys have barbers close bye.😂😂 Its a mini Victor Matfield and mini Frans Malherbe. Again the BBC must get you into their analyst team. Its brilliant analysis. Go Bokke and go Southern Hemesphere! Great rugby weekend ahead.
Porter steps out and scrums inwards. Gets away with it too often, especially against Italy in this year's 6N...thought that ref was way out of his depth in that game.
South Africa is using more Vertical attack with their backs!! France was the boss at doing this but looks like SA have added this weapon to their arsenal and are perfecting it
One thing you didnt mention is a sold out loftus… the crowd is going to be crazy. For Ireland to win they must try silence the crowd and deal with the altitude. Not going to be easy…
I wonder if Ireland's thinking of keeping all their international players in Ireland might just be one of the reasons they have never progressed passed the QFs in a RWC. If I think about the Springboks, the fact that they are allowed to play wherever they want in the world and still be able to be selected for Springboks means that all the club tournaments they play gives them the regular chances of becoming familiar with opposition game styles and mindsets. This means that they are more dynamic in how they play and how they think when coming back to play for the Boks. However, when it comes to Ireland, there isn't a lot of that unless I guess you think of the URC and the Champions Cup. However, since SA franchises have joined, the so called Shadow Ireland team has since been knocked out of ICC Finals each time and in URC Semis every time. Their BMT might be suffering for the simple reason that they always seem to play with the same guys no matter where they play, which is great but it could also be their weakness in that they are not constantly being tested by different combinations of players, or fighting for places in the International squad or the fact that playing anywhere in the world opens up more opportunities for more players so that you have a greater squad depth. No matter how many good players you have playing for Ireland, you always only have four clubs to choose from, if you try to keep them in Ireland, whereas in Springboks you see how many clubs are represented and I think it's roughly maybe 10 or more. Thus inevitably you build serious squad depth, you build great mindsets of different combinations, and yet everyone is always of one mind when coming into an international squad. Thus: 🇿🇦 1. More players can play for clubs across the world, means greater squad depth. 2. More clubs represented means more depth of experience in international waters. 3. Competition is high because each position is contested for significantly 4. Injuries are not always a negative since you have varied combinations and players are more familiar with playing multiple positions. 🇮🇪 1. Smaller pool of players to choose from since all their best players like to stay in Ireland. 2. Also the test players don't get as much experience from elsewhere since they prefer to stay in Ireland. 3. Ireland also in general don't have a large rugby playing pool to choose from. 4. Injuries are more problematic since reliance on individuals can create quite a backlash when those individuals retire or get injured. (That is also applicable in the Boks pack but it didn't seem to stop Boks from winning the WC last year since each player that could had been training for at least two different positions in the pitch hence Marx and Mbonambi being injured by the start of the final, Deon Fourie steps in and the Boks beat the All Blacks) I have not given an exhaustive list and I know it seems biased towards the Boks which I tried not to but I was wondering this point. If anyone has more points to add, please do add them. I am interested.
Basically rugby is a niche sport in Ireland and they will never have a large pool if players. They could play all around the world and pool would be no bigger. If you have a small pool you keep them playing together. Reality is that SA could field three teams all capable of winning g world cup. Ireland has dozens of potentially great rugby players have never touched a rugby ball. Gaelic football is Ireland's passion.
Ireland will never have a large pool if players because rugby is not a popular sport. Gaelic football is king. With a small pool you keep them playing together. Otherwise a handful a sprinkling if players playing around the world. SA could field three rugby teams at national level. Imagine if 80% of SA played a different sport. That would be Ireland equivalent.
