South African adverts #2, 1980s (maybe 1986?)

These South African adverts are from around... the 1980s. I thought 1982, but I've been told the Rock Watch did not reach South Africa until 1986. So that seems the likely year.
Sorry for the poor quality.
Electrolux vacuum cleaner (nothing sucks like Electrolux)
Clover Milk
Ford Sierra
Morkels
Tissot Rock Watch

This was on a Sunday night. Never missed an episode of North and South. Back when Patrick Swayze fought for the Confederacy. And following that was Masada with Peter O'Toole as a Roman General. ( I might b wrong. Its been a while.)

Thatʼs not Early 80s. North & South was on TV4, which started in the mid-80s (and North & South wasnʼt the first miniseries on TV4). The Tissot Rock Watch didnʼt hit South Africa until 1986 either.

@@karmatraining I was wondering something and you'd know better than me. Every white South African I've known was Dutch (like yourself) and spoke Afrikaans so why are these commercials in English with British accents? This isn't the South African accent I remember.

You can tell this is 1980s South Africa because there's no black people in these ads.

Electrolux is Swedish. When they translated the slogan into English, and then marketed it, it seems like they didn't get someone English speaking to check it. The person would no doubt have picked up that in English society it's a colloquial expression for nothing being as bad as it.
@GoodVideos4

It's like there are websites of funny signs in English, in a country like South Korea. It could no doubt have been avoided if they asked English speaking people to check them.

Is "sucks" a common phrase in South African English? I know that at the time it was very rare in other countries such as the UK, so I thought to ask if it was the same thing in South Africa.

Since I'm not very familiar with SA demographics beyond what the South Africans I've known in South Florida told me, why are all the ads in English with British accents? Every white South African I've seen was Dutch and spoke Afrikaans.

The Afrikaans kids were taught English at school. To a high standard. Even studying Shakespeare. I had to study The Tempest. Currently South Africa has 11 official languages. Zulu is the predominant mother tongue.
