More steam action in the second part of my 2000 trip on the Cape Classic Mountains Steam Safari. This section covers Class 25NC, GMAM Garratt and 19D haulage on the Wolseley to George part of the journey.
Hi Wilfred, I count myself fortunate that I visited when I did, rather late but I think just in time. Glad I was able to rekindle memories for you even though they were tinged with sadness. With best wishes, Bazza
Hi Rex, sadly that is so true. I was fortunate to be able to visit when I did and I know there was much that had already gone when I visited Glad you liked the video. Bazza
The tender behind the 25NC is in fact a rebuilt Condensing tender. Not all the SAR Garrats were built at Gorton, some in Glasgow & some by Henschel at Kassel
Thanks for the Wonderful memories. I lived in SA in the 1980’s and sometimes took steam excursions from Pretoria. Ah South Africa, a world in one country.
Some of these locomotives were built not too far from where I live in England. Gorton Works, where all the Beyer Peacock locomotives were built, is only an hour drive from where I live.
