St Mary's church in South Dalton (near Beverley) is a remarkable Victorian building. Although inside the church is one of the most extraordinary monuments dating to the late 17th century, moved from the old church in the village when it was demolished. I hope you enjoy this video.

You captured this beautiful building at a perfect time with light streaming through that fine stained glass. The height is magnificent. Also the Hothan/Cecil tomb is beautifully carved and thought provoking. Another great video Rob..thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Dale! The tomb is really what people come for, but the building itself is a real showstopper too.

What an extraordinary tomb and stunning church! If anyone is going to get me interested in Victorian churches rather than my beloved medieval ones, it's most likely going to be you, Rob!

Wow, that spire is something else. Victorians new how to build on a grand scale, amazing architecture 😊

That's a smashing introduction to an amazing church. I haven't been that way for 18 years but I worked in Beverley 2004-6 and I got to know Sth Dalton well. A slight pity (for me) that the church isn't vaulted like other Pearson show stoppers but if you can't have perfection then near perfection will do...

Thank you, Philip! Indeed, vaulted like St George's, Cullercoates, for example - a church I also know well. Near perfection will do! Thanks for watching and commenting!

There are many presentations on churches but yours stands out for its 'professionalism' for want of a better description. My soul naturally rebels against Victorian High Gothic. I feel more for the 'closer to nature' of an unrestored parish church. I dislike the 'sanitised' encaustic tiling. The clean cut, crisp High Gothic carving. It smacks too much of Victorian morality and 'cleanliness is close to Godliness'. I prefer a church 'in the rough'. I feel closer to God when I feel the touch of time in the fabric of the church. Not in the Victorian remodelling or reconstruction. Having said that your presentation was a delight to listen to.
