Most Utahns know the Great Salt Lake is in danger as the effects of the drought shrunk the lake and water levels reached a historic low in 2022. However, a recent effort to minimize the ecological effects of the drought is giving hope for the lake's future.

Ironically just wrote a 10 page college essay final on the topic of The Great Salt Lake including salinity, migratory birds, brine shrimp, the railroad causeway, watershed, water allocation, the lake effect, evaporation, and the effects of urbanization. After months of research and refinement, I submitted the essay yesterday and saw this video today!

Careful what you wish for, the entire track may go under water. The water district can deal with 100%, but anything over that ,, salt lake is getting all of it. That is 200% on top of 100% that can be delt with. The great salt lake is going to get hammered in flow rate out of regulated systems.
@eyezak_m
@eyezak_m Год назад
Railfanner here: It is highly HIGHLY unlikely that the tracks will go underwater, the Causeway is high enough that it probably won't get flooded. It was built at a time when the lake was higher, and to my knowledge has never been underwater even in 1983. Even if it did, lakewater always hits the tracks anyway from all the waves, it's a simple repair if it ever does...

Doesn't Canada have a "carbon tax" or something. Everytime someone invents an engine or something that doesn't burn alot of oil or makes clean energy they are either silenced, offed, or paid off by big oil/ gov.
