How tragic that a drop in population growth is only seen as a "labour shortage".

It's understandable because of the extremely high pressure on students , the lack of job opportunities , and overall raising children has become very difficult and expensive. India will experience something similar very soon.

😕😕This protest is a answer to those men who were asking why women need rest after pregnancy, why we should've to work while girls are sleeping at home with child, why they are getting paid for leave. If nature has given us the responsibility to birth then it is men responsibility to take care and support us, if they don't want to support us then why should we get married and bear the child.

My Japanese coworkers (man and woman) are both in their 40s and none of them is married or have children. My lady coworker said she doesn't want to get married or have children anymore she likes the idea of going home to her quiet little apartment and enjoying the peace. She has money to travel and she has been to 50 countries. I think some women are realising that marriage and children are not always fulfilling and they just do not have to live life the way their mothers and grandmothers did. Times are changing.

Human beings are not machines to work for rich and breed workers for the rich.

When Korean hospitals tells women to take care of everything and prepare meal for their husband before they go into labour as if their husband are newborn babies. What else do you expect 😂. No this is the reaction of Korean government when they find out that treating women badly have consequences.

South Korean ladies are correct. It is our choice.We r not machines.

S. Korea has the most expensive child-rearing because of studies. Children are enrolled in various private after-school schools. Schools tutoring maths and English are a billion dollar business in SK and China. It became the norm, adding financial burden to parents and making those children traumatized thinking they need to be financially prepared before making babies.

It's basic rights, better no children than malnourished and unloved children.

This reporter did a fantastic job covering south korean women's motives. She explained what the issue, why it became an issue, and the consequences neatly and efficiently without placing blame on anyone. She covered many different viewpoints too. Considering how women are treated there and how much of an extremely unfair workload they get once they get married and have kids I’m not surprised.

They don't want their children to go through the suffering they had to. Living is becoming hard & harder. It's time for a change. India needs this & I hope everyone realizes overpopulation brings more problems than economic fall.

Overpopulation and underpopulation, both affect a country's well being. A steady fertility rate is essential for a smooth transition of a country's population.

They need population just for work or labour force ... That's where the problem is ...

Me and my female friends (16-18 years old ) also have chosen not have kids and i seen many many more girls on fb, insta everywhere saying the same thing so i guess its becoming a very normal thing now, i think its great that we are finally taking charge of our bodies. We have learned from the precious generations of women who had babies then were left to take care of everything at home plus work full time AND take care of full grown man babies. The new generations have learned to not do the same mistakes.

I'm Indian,i also don't want to marry or bear a child,if i ever want to be a mother I will adopt a child who is already in this planet and need a home rather than producing more and burden this planet,it is a good decision by Korean women,i hope many people around this world make such decision and we can make this earth a better place to live by sustainable population

Women lost their equality from the day they have let their care giving responsibilities taken for granted. Few months back I read news that many companies in Japan were not willing to hire women even if they are better talented because women employees at some point of time will take break from work for child birth and that would hurt the companys' productivity. Care giving jobs have to be divided equally between men and women and women should have complete sovereignty over their reproductive rights only then women's care giving responsibilities will not be taken for granted.

It isn't surprising that South Korea's fertility rate is dropping alarmingly considering the way their whole society works. Children are put through tremendous pressure from such a young age to get into a good elementary school, secondary school, university and good job through tough exams which sucks out your time and mental well being. The salaries are also not helping with the rising cost of living. There is way too much pressure in this society and South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. I know two Korean friends who have lost someone close to them to suicide which is terrible. How will people think of starting families when they are unable to take care of themselves. Also people these days have realized there is more to life than just starting a family and want to live life to their terms and fulfill their desires which would be very difficult if u were married and raising children. Korean society in whole should completely change the way it functions in order for the fertility rates to increase again. Things are gonna be rough for South Korea in the upcoming years if things are gonna be the same as Korea is one of the fastest ageing societies on earth just a few places behind Japan

you are talking about korea when india has same problem in next few years. because for prenursery cost around 60 to 80K for medium school where their parent monthly salary was 30 to 40K. this is in mysore but if you consider banglore and other it will become 2 to 3X.

Throughout all this South Korean gender war nonsense you never hear one peep from a Korean man saying "I will gladly go against the grain and share the workload of housework and childcare. I will support my wife because she helps bring in money through her job." None at all. It's like they refuse to change that part at all. Ridiculous.

Actually its understandable. When I sent this to my husband his reply was "if women dont know how to balance career and motherhood maybe they shouldnt give birth" as if its not men problem its totally women problem

You’re hearing it from a 17 year old female Gen-Z, YES, WE DO NOT WANT ANY KIDS! Even though, I’m open to the idea of falling in love and marrying the love of my life but children? It’s a big NO! I wanna fulfil my own aspirations, live my life to the fullest and do not want any little human arising out of me! Hypothetically, if I were to have kids, their as well as my life would turn out to be a DISASTER! I’d be too mentally unstable to take care of kids! It has nothing to do with money tbh, I know I can make a great career for myself and earn an adequate amount to finance more than 2 people but it’s the burden that comes with a child! Being there for them constantly is the biggest challenge! I can’t be there for myself, how do you expect me to be there for a baby?!

It shows that many women are very perspective and know better. They think of the future generations and are contributing to its better living conditions by not having offsprings. Less crowding, less pollution, more food, more housings, more jobs, better air....

Perhaps when you stop berating a woman about her achievements, then you'll see more enthusiasm from her towards life.

I don’t want to make babies. I saw my mother, who had two kids, my grandmother had 6, my father side grandmother had 8. being a mother destroys women health, and mentally it’s extremely stressful for Atleast 12 years of each child. I don’t want babies. I love my peace

Pet shops are springing up everywhere. I found most of the young men and women don't want to take up the responsibility of marriage. They want a care free life,travelling,etc. and instead prefer pets. Nature of jobs nowadays may be one of the reasons.

Can they please first create a better system for kids? Like proper orphanages and foster systems in case of tragedies/abandonment, proper education systems that don't make kids want to kill themselves from depression, proper opportunities and wages so that those kids don't grow up to find out that they're simply another cog in a machine for the rich who steal their hard work and wages and call them profit? First create a better world for children and obviously for women, else it's best that the population dies down. Not being born is better than being born in a world that is determined to destroy you in every step.

The pressure of marriage and childbirth on women is actually too much overrated and unnecessary 🙄 If we don't want it...then it should be TOTALLY FINE 💯 These are not the only thing which should define a woman's life. I think it's also about politics in korea. The laws are very misogynistic and women are opposing against it. Youth there is also not in the favour of the current gov but since most of their population is older, the gov pleases to them.

Not only in south Korea and Japan in our country Sri Lanka also we have to do many sacrifices when we raise a kid. Even our partners are not very helpful and hope to make everything by ourselves. It is not only the problem in government but also poor understanding of the male partners. I think the whole system should be changed if the world really needs to have a positive birth rate. Women can't struggle alone. It is glad to hear that the women in those two countries were brave enough to understand toughness in marriage life before they become too late.

The cost of living is high in many places. Depending on where you are in the world both genders need to work to provide a living for themselves. Taking care of children is difficult and expensive. Many women these days work full-time, cook, clean, and take care of children. The man will expect her to do that while he only works. This is a huge problem with many relationships in the US.

I can see my state in India facing the same problem after some year if there are no changes...there are a lot of people with degrees but there is lack of job opportunities...how can one raise a family in this kind of situations.

Indians like don't worry we are here we are responsible for global population. In India also so much education fees still from kindergarten after so much expenses till post graduation we are not sure whether will get job or not as population going out of hand. No government job , recession in private jobs still government and citizens don't care about it. Government don't want do apply child policy as our citizens don't understand this serious issue. After some yrs there will be no land no water No jobs people will start to fight for water and resources that time government will understand that we should have apply child policy.

Check out Sewol tragedy that happened in 2014. South Korean govt was indifferent and apathetic to all the school children that were going to die and later died due to inaction. They should first protect children/ people that are already alive.

In the USA, we have the “decenter men” movement. We still date but we try really hard to focus on ourselves instead of self-sacrificing for men that promote 50/50 finances but expect us to do majority of the unpaid & undervalued domestic/emotional/child-rearing work.
