South Park Snow Day isn't THAT bad... right?

There's a good reason why trey parker never promoted this game

I feel like Snow Day was kind of just the bare minimum in every way. It was just there. It wasn’t outrageously terrible, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. It felt like coasting through making a game, which is where the disappointment lies.

This game was actually mandated by Paramount as part of a billion dollar deal they did with Matt and Trey in 2019, they wanted seasons, specials and one 3D game. So yeah you can tell they did not care about it at all

It really says a lot when trey and matt who are so passionate about every project they make related to South park are absent from the promotion of the game.

Every youtuber be like: "Sorry my voice sounds weird. I'm sick" and their voice never sounds even remotely different in any way at all.

It kinda sucked to me that the New Kid's unnatural ability to make friends and followers really fast on social media were never mentioned.

Still want a South Park Ninjas RPG

I saw this game's humor summed up in one phrase that's making me wait to buy it: "I should not feel like I could play a South Park game with my parents in the same room as me." Now that it sounds like Blooms agrees, I'm definitely not checking it out until at least the Summer sale.

It's a huge step up from South Park N64, but it's also a huge step down from Stick of Truth and Fractured but Whole.

I figured out whats wrong with this game. Its extremely safe, it doesn't have that South Park "We don't give a f*ck about anything so we're going to make fun of things as much as we want* Spark in it. Aside from a few moments (Mostly involving how the New Kid ruined both past games) there's really not much in this that one could consider South Park. For example it took me quite a while to realize the Snow storm was supposed to be a stand in for Covid.

The least they could've done was make the theme "Ninja"

I will say, it might be a good thing there isn't voice chat, because just remember, every time you meet a South Park fan, you run the risk of meeting a Cartman Fan.

It would have been so easy to make a JRPG parody with the characters' anime alter egos. So easy. Even having Ninja Star Kenny in one half of the game and Princess Kenny in the other half.

Genuinely feels like a random spam phone game and then got a south park skin layered over the top

I find it amusing to see someone experiencing roguelikes for the first time with this game For what it's worth, from your description, it's not good content for a roguelike, it's mixing mechanics from several really good roguelikes but not with the same polish that makes other roguelikes really stand out A few things: * Yeah, roguelikes are meant to be replayed a lot, some use meta progression (like this game) to try to make you play as much as possible, more traditional roguelikes would make it more of a knowledge and/or skill check to win * Randomization is a big aspect of the genre, many games have the entire level being random, some games prefer to limit randomization to have better level design * Roguelikes in general aren't known for their story, there's about a handful of known exceptions, primarily Hades, Deathloop, Returnal, Children of Morta and Wildermyth, like I said, a handful * If you're experienced at all in the genre in the last few years, this game really doesn't seem to offer anything, I'm not surprised at the harsher reviews since most of them come from people that have a lot of experience in the genre

All I want from a South Park Game is feel the exaggerated swagger of South Park Kid, Something that I will never see in Snow day

I’m a HUGE South Park fan. Since the 90s. I 100% completed both RPGs. Refunded this after 42minutes of gameplay. Hopefully it’s a blank slate to improve. The voices felt like they were AI too which wouldn’t be a problem, but with the graphics and blank stares it felt soulless.

If they ever make another south park game, it should be about sci-fi or cowboys, not re-using the same theme from the last games

A pirate game would have been perfect

For the record, in a rougelike it's normal to have to restart the game from the very beginning when you die. That's what defines a rougelike, even. That being said, usually one complete run on a rougelike will only take around an hour or so. The draw of a rougelike isn't usually just to "progress", but to take on harder and harder difficulties that require better and better play, so the idea of having to restart doesn't really make you feel like you've lost something or wasted time, but instead that you need to try again and hope to do better to overcome the challenge.

The game felt SO unfinished when I was playing. Textures that looked like they were from the PS2 era even on some of the objects (like the logo on Princess Kenny's throne was almost unrecognizable) But also just felt like once you get past the opening scene of Cartman being excited about a snow day, the comedy mostly ended. Also you mentioned that maybe as they expand the game to tie in with future episodes it might be worth the $30 price tag... but I have every reason to believe given the state of the gaming industry that any additional content will be paid, which ultimately raises the price tag to get the game plus any tie in content they release. Which to me, will make the game continue to act in a value deficit

I never really like the "playing with friends" argument because just about anything is better with friends. That doesn't make the game good, it makes spending time with your friends good.

The reason for "no crossplay" btw, on top of it being a giant technical hurdle and huge pain in the ass that often isn't worth implementing, is Sony. It's always fucking Sony. They're the #1 cause behind every single multi-platform crossplay getting held up, slowed down, prevented, or cancelled. They've been such assholes about it that some games like Warframe had their release of crossplay and cross-save delayed by *years*.

the idea of a roguelike game is that you start a run and when you die the entire game resets and the drops/chests and sometimes even the map changes. so Snow Day would be a rogueLITE cause of it only resetting one level and not your entire progress. (games like noita, dead cells, risk of rain are popular roguelikes) edit: I never meant to say the games i listed where rogueLITES I just edited my comment without thinking that now it looks like I see noita or risk of rain as a roguelike

The previous 2 RPG games just set incredibly high expectations that a half-priced small game could never meet

It looks so atrocious that I couldn't even handle the ads for it. Idk why tf they thought it would be a good idea to translate South Park into 3D. I don't know what it was trying to be and neither did the developers. They should have gone with annother 2D build upon South Parks latest Episodes and developments with its own story built in. Like the past two games which were fun af.

I could've told everyone it will suck (and did) the minute they announced it won't be an rpg and will focus on online multiplayer snow fights instead. The stupidest idea ever. Reminds me of those old Harry Potter lego games. Acceptable back then, ridiculous now. The second South Park game was nearly perfect but of course they had to fix something that was never broken. And this is always the end result. Regardless of whether it's games, music, movies or whatever. If it works, keep doing it. Add new stuff to avoid being boring but don't try to reinvent the wheel cause you'll always end up just breaking it and losing money.

I love the part where you're basically stumbling through what a being a roguelike (or more properly, roguelite) means. "Sucks that dying means you lose your chapter progress" and "Oh hey, the levels are different! That probably makes it more repayable."

Honestly for what it was I enjoyed this game my only real problem with it is that I wish there was more content but other than that it was somewhat good

The first South Park game was a mediocre 3D FPS game for the then current N64 and PS1. We've come almost completely full circle with another mediocre 3D showing for modern consoles, over 25 years later.

I do enjoy my rogue-likes. But a true RL is going to start you over once you die. And I mean start over. Back to the very beginning. Lose all your progress/items. Do it again. Binding of Isaac is a great example of this. It's punishing, but in a fair way to leave the player in control to learn and get better. Going back to the start of the chapter can be harsh, but I don't think that's RL (personally). I think that's just an actual game over mechanic, not meant to upend an entire run.

This is super important blooms. You should do a video names Worst South Park Parents. (like parenting style, actions, atmosphere in the show.) and then at the end make a summery and figure out which kid will have the most trauma. And is the most fucked in life.

In rougelikes, if you die in a run, you have to start all over from the very beggining. Rougelikes are desinged to be short but hard. Youre supposed to learn from each death you take.

i wouldnt have minded the shift from their other games if snow day had more that just a couple hours of content. seeing how short it is is an insult imo. at least they didnt try to con AAAA full price for it

just to let you know, Cross platform multiplayer is actualy difficult to do. there is a reason only AAA studios will do Crossplay. it requires simultaneous updates which has alot of console regulation that if one gets rejected then it is a whole rewrite of all the other platform's code as well.

South park with 3D models is cursed to forever pump out awful results.

Gave it a try. That’s all I can really do. A genuinely boring beat ‘em up game. There’s some humor that can still get a laugh at of you but after fighting Princess Kenny, I’m checked out. There’s nothing for the game to really offer.

Games that release mediocre at best with "itll get better with DLC" is the most delusional new age gaming statement. I miss when a games weren't released half ass or with DLC in development while the game is being made. Just nickel and dime your way to 100$ off DLC on a 30 dollar game to gloss over the fact it was half baked.

My major gripes: 1. I enjoyed the previous two games because they were solo player and not co-op. 2. Outside of the initial trailer (I had the same reaction as the re-enactment 😂), I went in with expectations almost non-existent. I was tempted to pre-purchase it, but something told me to wait. I'm glad I did.

Honestly I still think they should have done a PvP game like happy wars, just imagine the whole neighborhood going against each other in a snowball fight with just maps around the town. I also think the art works even if most find it weird it’s not bad at all. It Look like South Park, a LOT fail much harder at this in my opinion, I just think for 3D there is too much you can do and need an open mind with combat and map building compared to just another rpg with just a 4 man team

snow day is the kind of game you clear once and never have the urge to play it again, mediocre at is finest.
