I will be getting an AF100 as soon as budgetly possible! Simply incredible although I wish they stayed with the P2 format as now I have all these extra cards that I can't use with this!

Excellent video. Where were the skateboard and bike tricks filmed? It appears to be the same place that dpreview does their video tests. This camera is going to be very nice. I sure hope the GH2 has close to its performance.

I do love shallow dof, but I know what you mean, can get a bit much sometimes. I wouldn't say that's the case here tho. I just love that you've been doing tests with your own eyes. I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do that sort of thing!

I am very impressed with the latest gear from Panasonic.A beautiful shoulder mounted true 1080p 2/3 sensored HPX3100 and at below 20K.This one as well. What I'd also like to see is a 4/3 inch sensor from Panny's GH2 in a HPX370 body that shoots directly into P2 cards at the 10 bit AVC intra level.Now that would be a serious animal.I'd buy one and credit card the second.

Could you please please list the specific Lumix and Nikon lenses you used? We've had our AF100 pre-ordered since day one but I'm new to using SLR lenses with cinema. DSLR is an entirely new animal for us.

Hey, Phillip, I was curious what wide lens you were using throughout this piece. Most curious about the lens at the beginning, overlooking the town, on the elevator, in front of the fist store, and the wide lens over the fish. (I thought it might be a 'fisheye' lens - excuse the pun), but I'm sincerely curious. Thanks, and great film!

What were your thoughts on the AVC Intra codec? Is this going to be acceptable for broadcast? I heard AVC intra is not going to be accepted by any large television company.

The P2 cards are still superior to any SD cards mainly because of the recording formats. The AF 100/101 records to AVCHD, which is a difficult format to edit because of the h.264 compression. P2 records to DVCProHD. Much easier editing format and less compressed. Also, a Panasonic rep answered this question at a convention stating that adding P2 to the AF 100 would add about $4000 to the price. It would still be worth it though, strictly for post production reasons.

The noise in the shadows is from the Mp4 Compression right?

The camera and everything looks nice. Ergonomics? don't know? For tripod probably nice, for hand held? probably needs some rig (like the Fig). I hope viewfinder is great. I'm tired do use LCD in bright sunlight. Need a nice VF. The mic rig will be sold separately? And lenses? there isn't any good 4/3 lenses around that offers good opening and decent zoom at constant aperture. 35mm lenses - the crop factor it's huge. How to shot something on the run with 4/5 lenses in a pocket? This isn't photo.

@MattWex Im certainly not arguing the fact that p2 can store much greater data-saturated footage.. But cost efficiency is everything now.. and with clients that cant even tell the difference between a woodchuck and a squirrel, why should we even bother going out on a limb to spend out for "top notch"? P2 cards are just way too expensive.. its just a fact. I think as time progresses, we'll see these SDHC cards evolving even more. I mean look how much they've evolved in the last 4 yrs.. and price?

@philipbloom I doubt that. they tried to save P2 with the Ecards, theyre just too expensive when you compare to the inexpensive & mass produced SDHC cards. Be realistic.. everyones pushing bottom line production costs right now. We all hate knowing we're stuck with certain cameras that record in a format that either didnt take off or is now practically obsolete.. I definitely say though panasonic revises this camera with more than 60fps option.. it'll blow the sales doors off anything out there

P2 Cards are already a thing of the past. It's unfortunate, because I have two Panasonic cameras . The flash card era is here to stay.
