Our First Visit to South Tynedale Railway, we arrive early morning to find Harrogate in steam, later on we purchase a return ticket from Alston to Lintley.
Last traveled over the route (from Haltwhistle) shortly before closure. This excellent video captures the beautiful scenery and conveys atmosphere. This has prompted a return visit. Many thanks for posting.
Brilliant loco in peak condition and brilliant railway. Sadly, on the 2 occasions I have been in Alston it has not been in operation. Good reason to go again. 😝
the brake van; in the old days it contained the winding wheel that pulled up the brakes on the train of cars behind the engine. it was always the number 2 car as such.
