Only a parent would know that. I sincerely hope she is found, but we all know time has passed, and percent outcome we know the statistics on that.

They are probably afraid to talk because someone might kill them if they do. Guatemala is a very unsafe country now!!

They're talking about the people last in contact with her, not if they know her personally. Obviously, they can confirm this, as she was around these people before her disappearance, but if they aren't willing to speak on what they last saw regarding her, that becomes a larger problem. @@Mokawoo

Unfortunately my family is from the city of Guatemala and everyone has been taught keep your mouth shut. There are no rats in our country. You get killed and beheaded. Worst your whole family. Like I told someone else in another comment thread this country is run by cartels. If they want you they grab you period. No women should be alone there is a lot of indigenous people in this part. Even if she did drowned they could have buried her body and kept it pushing. Very heavy tourist area. We call this area “pana” short for panajachel. May god find closure for her family.

I mean it's worth checking into, but is it not just as plausible that they are just suspicious of the authorities? People are talking about this like it's some dead giveaway. Many people don't like talking to police or investigators, especially if they think they might be a suspect

I don’t know about the poor thing her go fund me has $ 30,579 dollars at the time of the news broadcast . And it didn’t take long for the family members to set up that account 😮 I also think that’s it’s odd that none of the family members have traveled do to help in the search 🔍.

​@@theantichrist4267 How is it odd? What could some foreigner (like the family) who knows nothing about Guatemala (or search and rescue practices) hope to accomplish there? Plus, many people's jobs can't afford to have someone leave for long. I could only miss maybe 1-2 days before it would become particularly problematic that I wasn't there. They'd be better off doing what they can from where they are.

The area is still to have certain spiritual energy 🤓. It draws a lot of weirdos claiming to be mystics and sound therapists, etc, etc, certain parts are also very hippie, it's the whole vibe man. I wanted to go kayaking but I didn't want my first time to be in murky waters, not to mention swimming in water where people literally bathe and do their laundry in the same water.

Doubtful it’s the situation here since she had done this retreat once before. I would imagine she’d pick another destination to disappear into if that’s the case. But also this less likely scenario is a distraction from the search and rescue efforts. No matter the reason for going missing, let’s just hope she’s found alive and well. PS. I don’t condone people who willingly abandon their families or responsibilities without any warning. Wasting resources and causing unnecessary trauma.

Guatemala has gotten very dangerous due to the high concentration of Venezuelan and Haitian migrants there, I just went there 2 weeks ago for the day from El Salvador and was advised from the Guatemalan authorities to be really careful the migrants are known to rob people.

Lake Atitlan is a very touristy area, it's a relatively safe location. What I will say is someone at that Yoga Retreat definitely knows something.

"Violent crime such as extortion, murder, armed robbery, carjacking, narcotics trafficking and gang activity are common in Guatemala. Local police may lack the resources to respond effectively to criminal incidents resulting in a low arrest and conviction rate. " and "When traveling to Lake Atitlán, use certified tourist providers and [..] as criminals are known to target some routes." - according to the official US department of state website. My country's foreign ministry's website says more or less the same Personally, I have never been to Guatemala but I have studied, worked and travelled in different parts of Latin America that are "richer" thus more secure than Guatemala and I wouldn't have gone to any place alone, let alone in the morning hours. @dski8097 - She flew there alone. Once she got there, she was part of a yoga retreat group. She did not know these people but had previously did the same retreat a year prior with a different group. She went kayaking with the group. Apparently, her and one other person in the group went ventured off together away from the group. She is not talking, neither or any of the others in the group.

Maybe targeted by other hippies, alot of wealthy Guatemalan live there, mabe richer than you will ever be.

Well, that didn't work out for Shanquella Robinson. People she thought were her friends murdered her last year in Cabo, Mexico. Her family in North Carolina is still frightening for justice!! The Mexican police still have not charged anyone for her murder!!

travelling alone per se is not a bad thing at all, but you have to know what you're doing and be aware that you are not in a country like your home country. going kayaking alone in a deep lake in a country like this is definitely a bad idea

They are not South Americans. They are from Honduras and Nicaragua mostly with a few Salvadorans and Guatemalans in there. I wish Colombian and Brazilian women would come to the USA but unfortunately they love their own countries more.

Guatemala isn’t that unsafe in general. It’s safer than neighboring Honduras at least. Lol. Maybe she is into Guatemalan dudes. Guatemala does have a really cool amusement part called xetulul and a cool water park xocomil. Both have won awards so that may be a reason to visit

That is really concerning. I noticed that detail too. I heard in another report that witnesses apparently returned home to the states, refusing to talk to authorities about it. Details of course are sketchy and I don't want to accept the early reports as absolute truth, there's often early details that they get wrong. But it's still really concerning that witnesses are allegedly refusing to talk.
