I never knew about crockpot liners!!! Yes and I also use chicken stock. You also made me order the creole seasoning. After seeing this video, I think I will subscribe. You are great!
One other thing, when I use ham hocks I like to pour off the 1st boiled pot, so if I used a crockpot I would parboil it, pour that water out, then put it in the crockpot.
Needs some good smoked bacon grease and a big skillet (cast iron of course) of cornbread (cooked with bacon grease in the skillet and some poured into the batter) 😁❤
Made Southern Style Collard Greens today for my wife on Mothers Day. Put mine on at 5:30 this morning by 11;30 they were done. They tasted unbelievable! I would have never used my crock pot if I hadn't seen this video. Thanks!

Hi, I used your recipe for collard greens for my family. I never made college greens before and I am going on 69 years old. My family absolutelyLoved them. I made the barbecue pork ribs also. I’m so happy I found your channel. Thank you.
Thank you for doing this. It’s so evident that it’s your passion but it’s also helping so many like myself who just didn’t learn. My grandfather was a chef but passed away before I ever had the chance to learn from him. So this really helps! Thank you!
When I was in the service I was introduced to collard greens in North Carolina. As a mid west white boy it was so different but fell in love with it. Now I'm older and want to cook this. I have found meny great southern recipe ideas from watching you cook. I'm in the upper Peninsula of Michigan cooking for my family a bit of the south
Besides having cornbread with pot liquor as a "meal," pot liquor is good to maintain healthy skin, eyes and hair. And as a side-bar, I am glad to see that you tend to use LESS salt and MORE garlic powder since high blood pressure is a genetic marker for our core racial group. Keep 'em coming and thank you!
@@kimberlycampagno9410 its up to you if you're adding salt or a bunch of seasoning with salt you can most def dilute it with water up to you I don't because when you wash your greens even letting them dry there's so moisture in the greens themself
This recipe looks amazing. I have several Crock Pots and use them a lot. I have never cooked Collard Greens in the Crock Pot, but will do so today. I will be off to the market to buy two bunches of greens. Thank you for sharing. Update: everything is in the Crock Pot except for the greens and the vinegar. The greens have been prepped and will be added at the four-hour mark. This should be an awesome recipe. Update 2: the greens were not cooked after the six-hour mark. I had to cook nine hours in my Crock Pot. The two jalapenos with the seeds and membranes included, provided enough heat. In fact, all the spices worked well together. I made corn muffins and enjoyed both items together.
Nice James. The Crock Pot version turns out the exact same way as the stove top version. Really helps out on the holidays when your cooking a lot of food and the burners are all in use. With the Crock Pot you can just set it and forget it and produce some delicious Greens.
This recipe is da bomb! Thank you so much. I used chicken stock and added a chicken bouillon cube for more flavor and it turned out well. My daughter normally doesn’t eat greens but she asked for more, so I knew it was a success.🙌🏽
Awesome, I finally found someone besides me that uses a crockpot to cook Collards, I always use smoked neck bones, often let them cook overnight low and slow to really extract the flavor, the “pot Liquor “ as we call it in the south with a crusty brown slice of cornbread, can’t be beat.
I cannot thank you enough for posting this video. ☺☺ I was able to make my collard greens with my smoked ham hocks in my Crock-Pot. I recently moved to a studio apartment from a two bedroom and the studio does not have a stove. I have a convection oven with burners on top. Your video allowed me to be able to make my collard greens to go with my Thanksgiving dinner.😍😍 I wasn't comfortable using my dutch pot on those little burners. So, thank you again. The greens came out great even with my little 2 qt pot. 😂☺☺
my mother was raised in the low country of sc, she was the best mother I've ever seen.... she would look the greens, rinse-inspect for bugs or dirt. then cut out any stems bigger than 1/16 in. then tear the greens by hand. cook a pound of bacon, put that grease in your pressure cooker on med-high. fold in the greens a handful at a time scorching and wilting them. add water and salt and two tbs of sugar to remove tartness. add vinegar after to taste. heavy vinegar at this point will cure cancer, ok I know it works on the flu.
dang you have come a long way since this video. My husband and I love watching your videos. I should say he loves watching me cook you vides. Thank you for helping me learn so many ways to cook.
OMG...thank you for this! Nick was just talking about collards...& I was like well can you get your sister to make them...cause I don’t eat them or know how to cook them...he said oh...so AB or Southern Smoke don’t have a video 😂😂
I made this for my Christmas dinner. This was my first time using the crockpot these greens were soooo goood the only things I added was a pinch of baking soda. This is going to be my only way now...Thanks so much
I did it stove top a few times, but I've been doing this and string beans in the crockpot for years. Best way to cook and get those flavors marinated in the greens/string beans. Meat just fall apart and shreds in the pot.
You have made me so HAPPY! I don't cook like I used to because of my disability and age, but I don't like to eat out much anymore. I have 3 crock pots and you have GREAT recipes I have all 3 of them going and have nutritional meals to eat. My husband loves it too, saves him money, plus I love to cook still. Thank you! GOD BLESS 🙏❤️
Once again this is outstanding tried it last night family loved it. The only problem I had was my crockpot was too small. Buying a new one today. Thanks again
AB looks great bro! I’m gonna try it this weekend! Got some fresh greens from my garden ready to harvest! That’s the best when you can grow your own food!
Wow! Made these greens in my crockpot pot and they were amazing. The taste was so delicious. Thank you sooo much for introducing this method to me. I will never go back to stovetop cooking Collard Greens again. I look forward to trying so more of your recipes. God bless you richly and keep making those wonderful dishes for us to try.
Looks delicious!! I can't eat boiled collards & cabbage I fry mine! They have a crunch to them!! I eat gens 4-5 times a week😁They are my favorite!! Keep up the good cooking!! Wish I were your neighbor😁 GOD BLESS I LOVE YOU
Thanks for the tip on these crockpot liners life changing! I'm saving this video and I'm going to try to make this for Thanksgiving lol fingers crossed 🤞🏽
I cooked my hocks overnight. Used some bnls. country style hocks, (Salt Cured), pulled them out this morning to let them cool so I could shred by hand and add later to the collards. Collards are now in the ham hock juice cooking. Going to add a little cabbage to the collards to sweeten them up a bit. Add a little homemade pepper vinegar to the greens and let them marinate and cook. Gonna eat some collards, hock meat, cornbread and have a side of that delicious pot liquor. Going to be good. Loved your recipe, though. Nice and simple.
Man, just wanted to tell you, you inspired me to make a pot of collard greens And blackeye peas mixed- kinda combined your recipes and improvised. Had a big ol ham bone, a red onion, some garlic, a little bit of andouille sausage, creole seasoning, and some apple cider vinegar. It was awesome. Thank you for the inspiration, and your channel :)
Hey AB ... How are ya? For once, you have created a guilt free indulgence!!! I did NOT gain a pound watching this recipe!!! Viva la collard green!!! Collards are my favorite green!!! The crockpot is my favorite method of cooking. The two together. ... pure bliss!!! I can and have eaten this as a meal!!! Keep the recipes coming and I’ll keep watching and cooking. God bless you and yours!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠
That looks aMazing! Love greens. Collard, chard, turnip, kale, beet....never sure what to do with mustard greens. Any tips or ideas? P.S. The scent must be wonderful. The richness of the meat, the tang of the vinegar. Heavenly. Watching you scoop it out into a bowl leaving the broth behind, well, I would save the broth for later and serve it in a big mug with a few sourdough croutons sprinkled on and sip it. This is all your fault. 😉 making this today.
I do post the ingredients list in the description box below the video and the video is the visual instruction list :) I hope this helps :) Also, thank you for the sub and welcome to my channel :)
@@SmokinandGrillinwithAB For sure. I appreciate the ingredients list. I just take a screenshot of recipes and save it in my phone so having the instructions in that form would be great. But if not.. no worries. Thanks for the videos. Already made 3 things and they have been a huge hit with the fam!
Good idea using the crockpot. I used my pressure cooker and killed them in 40 minutes...too long! Next time I will try for less time or use the crockpot instead. Think I will add a jalapeño too, thanks for sharing your recipe!
Classic southern style collard greens 😋😋😋 delicious and easy to make. Thanks for sharing AB, Have an awesome Sunday 🎆😎🎆 Would love to see your recipe for cornbread 😊😊
After the long prep time it took my mom as a child to cook greens, I've always been afraid to try it cooking them until now. Thanks for sharing the love.
Looks good. I'm not a big fan of collards but I love myself some mustard greens and cornbread. And you gotta eat it with your fingers. Lol I'm a Louisianian and I was raised cooking greens with added oil for tenderizing. Awesome video.
Omg!!! I love collards!! My daddy makes the best ones! They look so bomb!! Ugh. I need me some collards now!! Big enthusiastic thumbs up 👍🏻! 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻Jess
Subscribed! I will definitely be buying a Crock-Pot for myself and trying this recipe. I absolutely love collard greens and I love fall foods. I will be using ham hock or smoked turkey legs instead.
I love collard greens and turnip greens. We grow turnip greens because they grow so much faster. We froze about 40 half-gallon bags of turnip greens last year. Greens with pickled pepper sauce and cornbread.
