18 episodes later and 16 months on, the first version of Havent Aclew is almost finished. The reconstruction of my son's old layout has I think been a great success and this video records the first celebratory full running session.
Even though the layout is small and has sharp curves I always wanted slow and fully controllable running. Several of the locos are over 20 years old and all run on standard 12 volt D.C. The video shows that this has been achieved - I am well pleased.

Very nicely done. You have achieved a lot in the very limited space without making it look too cramped or crowded.

A really enjoyable video of a simple, compact yet highly effective layout. Great weathering and realistic running. The builder obviously really enjoys running his trains and that's great to see.Thanks very much for sharing. BTW, the layout's name is pronounced "Haven't a Clue"!!!

I really enjoyed your video, and your narration brought it to life. Wonderful to see the high level of detail achievable on a roundy-roundy which, let's face it, are good fun. Best of both worlds. Many thanks.

Thanks Andrew for your kind comments. I agree that a roundy-roundy is indeed the best of both worlds. I have had more fun with this layout than any of my previous end to end ones. Sometimes you just want to watch trains go by........Keith

nicely done..and given the space limitations it looks very satisfying. I love a layout that sticks to it's geographical location and time period. Nice stock too but then I've been a Southern region fan since the 1960's

I have tried to keep the whole layout uncluttered which I think is essential in a small space. Your loft layout on the other hand looks huge by comparison so plenty of scope for scenery, Keith

Although being a Yorkshireman, I am very familiar with the area being modelled. I was a Royal Navy radio operator and our training establishment was HMS Mercury, situated a short distance from Petersfield. Havant, East Meon, Clanfield and of course Pompey were regular stomping grounds. A joy to see the locos running and listen to your commentary. Regards Ian.

A small but very convincing railway that I thought was beautifully modelled. Not too many "Southern" railways around so a pleasure to watch. I used to be the fireman on Terriers and always marvelled that despite their age they were great to fire. Got to get used to them but they are sure worth the effort. Thankyou.

What a charming 6x4! Your level of stock weathering is spot on while the scenics are wonderfully done wiith correct pattern SR platform lamps. In fact, the only minor criticism is the number of SPADs - maybe you might consider signal control using simple push rods from the baseboard edge? Just a thought. You have achieved exactly the feel I am aiming for with my project Polbetherick in N gauge, based on the North Cornwall line of the LSWR/SR.
@KV12543
@KV12543 Год назад
Thanks again for your comments, they are much appreciated. As for SPADs I'm afraid that working signals are a step too far for me at the moment....one day perhaps. I have enough trouble setting the points and track section switches without also worrying about signals as well! The layout has other guises as well as the Southern Region in Hampshire....at present it is set up as Parstiche on the Cornwall mainline...all videoed and on You Tube, Regards Keith

Convincing representation of a SR station. You'll have to get on with adding the conductor rail on at least one line to add the final touch to a charming layout. Thanks for uploading.
@KV12543
@KV12543 2 года назад
Thanks Allen for your kind comments. The buildings on the layout are removable so that I can represent different periods and locations...at present it is "Parstiche" which is set in Cornwall in the 1970's (see videos on this channel)....hence no conductor rails.. Keith.

Very nice indeed. You have done a lovely job with the scenery, and your locos run smoothly. Like you, I find the Hornby 2 BIL to be a great runner and excellent model. I just wish they had been supplied with lighting. May I suggest the addition of the third rail to the track to enhance the appearance if running EMUs?
@KV12543
@KV12543 Год назад
Thanks Mervyn for your kind comments. By changing the buildings every so often my layout has different locations. At the moment it is set up as a Cornish mainline junction so the third rail would not be appropriate, Regards Keith

Hi we've been having a few similar issues with the Bachmann N class, worth a try adding a bit of weight in tender, silicone spray in the housing the coupling runs in and loosen the coupling retaining plate to make the slot considerably larger on the tender end, oh and check the tender wheels back to back measurements. Nice little layout, to think I had a 6x4 over my bed over 50 years ago and it wasn't a patch on what you've achieved. Well done
@KV12543
@KV12543 3 года назад
Thanks for your kind comments and the advice regarding the N class. I will try some or all of the suggestions just as soon as I have stopped playing trains - which may well be a while yet as although the layout is small it does give me a lot of fun.
