Thank you for posting this. I like that Vern started out with a joke, and even though he wasn't able to sing or play that autographed guitar you asked him to sign, it was good to hear him later in life.
We appreciate Vern for coming to the Southern Showcase. This show was shot in Fayetteville Tennessee. The late Vern Gosden only lived a few miles from us in Ardmore which gave us the opportunity to have Vern on the show. No doubt the biggest live guest we had on the show. We did interview Charile Daniels on one of our show when he was at the Lincoln County Tennessee Fair.
Vern was very nice to come play for our show. Vern Gosdin was know as "The Voice" he had 19 top-10 solo hits on the country music charts from 1977 through 1990. Three of these hits went to Number One: "I Can Tell By the Way You Dance (You're Gonna Love Me Tonight)", "Set 'Em Up Joe", and "I'm Still Crazy"

Ole’ Verne was known to be an ornery sumbitch at times. You can see a little if it here but generally he was fine to deal with on this showcase. Show business can be a dirty cutthroat business and sometimes these artists put up a hard veneer that can be hard to get through sometimes. But in my opinion Verne was a true legend and has earned his place in Country Heaven .
Lord knows I ain't perfect by the Cane Creek Band. I like that song sounds funny and good to me . Lead singer cracks me up. Laughing and smiling - kimie
First and foremost I want to say - Please take a moment to appreciate Mr. G's Fine Swiss Timepiece : ( It is a Rolex 18K yellow gold Presidential with a large - Extremely high quality diamond bezel - It also has a exotic dial yet I cannot tell exactly what kind - Looks like Mother of pearl to me ) - Also check out his gold and diamond rings AND his heavy gold necklace with his signature VG charm !! - This fine man has class and excellent taste !! - Now ... This host does not treat Mr. G - " THE VOICE !! " With the respect and dignity he should have !! - You have a living legend on the show and you just call him a recording artist ?? - You have one of the best country music singers of all time on your show and let the house band sing and some other dude whom you treat like you should treat Mr. G and you treat Mr. G like you should treat those other dudes !! - I have never seen a legend treated with so little respect !! - And you have " THE FUC×ING VOICE !!! " On your show and " THE VOICE !!! " Does not sing ???? - FU×K ME DEAD !!! - UNFUCXINGBELIEVEABLE !!!!! :*×(
Let me first of all say that Mr. Gosdin did not live very far from where we recorded the show and he was gracious enough just to come sit on the set of our show. Also at that time Mr. Gosdin has recently had a stroke and was not able to bring his band and sing. Even with all that going on he fulfilled his commitment to still come be on the show and we were grateful. This show was recorded just a short time before his death.
You call him just a recording artist - That's like calling George Jones a singer or Bach a piano player and you show him little respect - Make him and everyone else listen to your house band and some other dude - I have NEVER seen a legendary country music artist treated with so little dignity and respect by a host - You should have went down his list of accomplishments - His list of songs that reached the top 10 Ect ... If no one has ever heard of him they would think he was just some traveling musician working for tips !! - You do not EARN the nickname " THE VOICE " - THE FUxKING VOICE !! For no good reason !! COWBOY UP !! CHUURRCH ! ! !
Disappointing... The host seems like he has no idea the level of talent that he has sitting there with him... Vern barely got to tell his back story... The host did nothing to hype him up and let people know who he was... And those local acts were awful...
