Southern Stiletto Snake (Atractaspis bibronii) | Herping South Africa
Come explore the fascinating Southern stiletto snake! Its remarkable appearance, powerful venom and underground lifestyle all make this tiny creature an amazing sight to behold. Before being known as a Stiletto Snake, these snakes were once called Mole Adders or Moladders - perfect for their subterranean life below ground!
As always, remember to stand for, what we stand on!

Good video. Damn painful bite. Ask me. Ask my cat... well, we have both survived! He has stopped hunting snakes and I am extra careful where I out my hands when working in my garden.

Awesome! Didn't know about the fixed fang vs. hinged fang difference between asps and adders. Once again, thanks for the enlightenment. Fascinating little subjects. Very interesting indeed. Wish I could see the geographic illustration of their range. Being color blind sucks sometimes.

This is one of the best presentations of any snake that I have seen on RU-vid. I just wish I had this information about the Southern African Stiletto Snake before I worked in Southern Africa, first as a volunteer living in rural Swaziland and later as a consultant working in South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. I think I may have seen one of these snakes when I lived in Swaziland in the tilled school garden that was adjacent to my hut. The students killed the snake, which given it's location was probably a good idea because the students were always working in those garden plots in their bare feet. I used to walk around in flip flops so I could have been in danger but there were a number of other snakes like black and green mambas, puff adders and boomslang snakes that were in abundance in the low veld area where I lived. I had ten serious close calls with black and green mambas during the two years that I lived in rural Swaziland. Thank you for sharing this information. This is the first time I have heard about this snake. Having the right information can save a life. That is one of the greatest dangers for a foreigner coming to live in a place like Swaziland. The foreigner has not received all of the community knowledge that is passed down to children as they are growing up so they learn what to do and not to do to avoid getting bitten by a snake or swallowed by one, which happen to a young boy who was about twelve years old who was tending cattle and lay down to have a nap and got eaten by a python. All the best.

Finally a good video about one of these things. Also I saw that professional opener and was like "how have I never heard of this guy?". I expected to see at least 200K subs and was honestly surprised that it was below 2000. Definitely gonna blow up soon if you keep making videos like this.
