The final installment of the Southern Upland Way series.
In the final episode I cover approximately 30 miles from Longformacus to Dunbar, camping overnight beside the graveyard just outside Cocksburnpath. I eventually reach Dunbar and make a quick escape to Edinburgh.

Thanks for posting the last part Mr Hill. The logistics from Melrose onwards seem a bit interesting, will need to work out a plan as I head towards that area. Does anyone know if the shop in Cockburnspath sells beer? Heading down to Portpatrick tomorrow, can't wait to get started.

Congratulations on completing a very long walk. An interesting ending, seeing that guy kicked off the train. Was there no official sign at the end of the Southern Upland Way in Cocksburnpath?

Great series really enjoyed it, what's up next? Would love to see you do the Fife coastal path.

Got a couple of wild camping videos to up next then heading to Skye for a weekend, Had thought about a video diary of Scottish National Trail but I'd need funding. Same for Fife Coastal path and many other trails, I'd do more but don't really have the funding unless someone who is rich wants to fund an expedition on Paetron. lol which is unlikely. No fear there will be more videos soon ...

An honest video, mate. One thing I've learnt in my long distance walks is when the opportunity arises you must restock on water and food and carry the extra weight. For me, walking these distances the challenge is 95 % in my head and 5 % physical. The way I see it is this: If I keep putting one foot in front of the other I will get there in the end so morale must be kept high with food and drink in my belly! :-)

Yep well I had planned to visit the village store for supplies once reaching Cocksburnpath. I should have just stopped at Pease Bay campsite, but I think the fact I'd hadn't eaten threw me off balance a little.

I love your stories and all.. but I find it odd that you always have a carrier bag - that would get on my wick something chronic. I'd tie it to my backpack, out the way, keeping both hands free to fend off hostile Teuchters. I also never realised there was such a variety of drinks available.. (I only ever drink tea/water on a hike) Just my thoughts.. keep up the great work.! I must add that I've never done an overnight walk, so what do I know? :-)

no way!! Why is scots language like that, spelt different to how it sounds, it's annoying. I am Scottish yet I was never taught Scots language at school
@alanmorr3635
@alanmorr3635 7 лет назад
That is correct, most languages do not pronounce the way they are spelt, for example, Milngavie is pronounced as Millguy, there are hundreds of other examples in Scotland and elsewhere, the Scots language is not taught at school but Gaelic is.

Nae McDonald's in Dunbar, the locals protested when they wanted to build one out by the Asda just off the A1. there is a campsite in Cockburnspath, but it's a big static caravan site with ferral resident kids who think they run the place. best avoided. nice to see you finally made it, mibbies invest in a water filter for the next long distance walk.
@hfthscot
@hfthscot 7 лет назад
Can't imagine there being a campsite as the vilage seemed so tiny. I thought Pease Bay was the closest campsite. McDonalds was a bad idea anyway .

Enjoyed the humor on the whole walk, I think a braver man than me camping there on your last night. Congrautulations on completing this trek which must have been quite mentally tough going with low supplies.

It seemsed fairly quiet around there and was getting late so I didn't think anyone would bother me, it did cross my mind though that a car could pull in for the night, or some rowdy youths could park up in their car being a Friday night. Luckily I got peace.
