I was going to say the same thing. Being the loudest doesn't make you the better band. Absolutely no substance to Talledega's music. From bad arrangements to no articulations.
Overall the Juke gets the dub. 'dega had some eye-raising moments and I give them all the credit for sounding very mature. I just was hoping it wasn't going to be a repeat of what Miles College was handed last year. Talladega hung, I'm impressed. They'll be in the top 5 for sure come the fall.

SU won without question. DEGA was loud but that was it. Balance, Blend, Pitch,Intonation, Tone quality were all non existent. It takes more than volume to win a battle. Dega wasn't much louder than SU yet the difference in sound is night and day. Admittedly SU had a few hiccups but for a college ensemble to produce the sound Dega did is a joke. I was more impressed with Landry Walker
Anyone who thinks Tallafaka won this battle must be basing their opinion ONLY on volume because based on arrangements alone, SU won by a landslide. LOUD DOES NOT EQUAL GOOD and TC continues to be the prime example of that.

Dega legit doesn't care how they sound. Like no concern given. If 80% of the notes line up during playback it's ok in their book. Sound quality? Tone? They off that.

In my unbiased opinion from a very neutral NYC. Southern University won this encounter, in a very big way! The music was dynamic and complex and just damn enjoyable. My regards to both great marching bands.
High School Level Written Music vs Collegiate Music..... SU......W Bonds needs to add dynamics and articulation to his music. Being g loud does not equate to quality played songs. Is SU Loud? Yes! But with intonation, balance and power.
I think other bands try to out blow SU and that’s one of SU’s strong attributes and they have no chance with that because SU is clean with their power. In other words other bands stand a better chance if they go with arrangements and clarity, but even then SU has the upper hand because they do it all greatly.
SU should only catch fresh bodies on Bloody Sunday. Talladega had their shot years ago.. Its time to move on and give others a chance to compete against the best
Dega gets it's bad rep for being disrespectful and not following band etiquette...they have a decent sound with room for improvement but their poor decorum will prevent them from being considered an elite band.

Not only that but if you bit all the hands that's even giving you a chance when you don't have a football team to lean on for performance and other programs have to invite or hosting you is your only way to show case your talent... I believe if Dega would have showed class at the MIDNIGHT MADNESS BOTB in 2015 I believe with them and Southern, that that could have became an annual classic heavyweight event, but they messed that up with their ghettoness in Baton Rouge....smh

SU won and this is coming from a former Grambling #WorldFamed Member. Dega, we know y'all have power but tighten up on the balance y'all. Some songs I had to listen to closely to know what it was but when Southern played, I knew what it was even though they came with that power as well. Good battle though. #hbcubandsmatter

I gotta admit, this was a great battle. BUT, SU was sending a message through those horns: "We admit it, we had a somewhat rocky season last year. Cool. We know we didn't sound like ourselves at times. Fine. But we know 1 thing, we know 1 thing: We don't care if we hire Instrument Instructors to our Band Staff, we don't care if hold a pre-camp this spring, WE DON'T CARE IF WE HAVE TO HIRE A DAMN GRIEF COUNSELER. Come our 50th Anniversary season this coming Fall, Bandheads will know who the REAL Human Jukebox is, and come 2020, the Rose City of California will be a BARREN WASTELAND when we're through!"
This was a battle of LOUDNESS. Funniest parts of battle were: at 9:51.....SU was Shook and Nervous and messed up....at 17:52 Dega tried to cut through SU and it didn't quite work out . They both sounded the same after awhile trying to out blow and cut each other off.

Thank you Showtime! Will you consider standing further away from the band when recording. The music would sound so much better because we can hear arrangements better. As a fan of your brand, I would prefer to hear the sound from a distance rather than see the members up close. You can always zoom in from a distance. Overall, I love what you do and keep up the good work.
It'll never happen. Trust me they focus their power ON the baritone section. And they try to get screamers, they don't try to get a powerful trumpet section like Southern does. And as far as Mellos go, they need Jesus lmaoo

Talladega started off good. But took a L towards the end. That's crazy SU marching parade count and still smashing. Lol...Talladega whole band is there...LOLOLOLOL!!!!
Dega doesn’t have a football team so there is no excuse on why these songs sounded the way they did they had more than enough time to clean and spot check EVERY song in their book
Aron Mitchell yes that Ballard was killing them southern was showing the crowd what musicians really sound like and a real band that's why dega tried to cut thru they were getting exposed and couldn't take
