Agree with many of the commenters here - Southport looked far better in the 70s. Progress is not always a good thing. Lovely to see places I visited as a child - sadly now gone.

WOW! I was presenting the Rosebud prize this year (although I am not seen in this video) as I had won Southport Rosebud 1974 when I was 5. This same Rosebud this year was also being filmed for the tv programme "Look North West" Connie Creighton was an adorable lady, & yes us kids really did call her Auntie Connie. She sadly passed away in 2009 after fighting demetia. May God rest her gentle soul xx

I had lunch in the Blundellsands Hotel with Connie Creighton, Sooty and various others after winning a flying trip as a 12 year old in 1987. Sooty was drenching everyone with his water pistol as we ate. Connie was lovely though and had absolutely nothing to do with it!

Born and bred 1974. Was out today walking around the front in the sun. Litter all over. Pier closed down.Filth everywhere. Fairground decrepit Walked down Lord Street canopies flaking away. More shops empty row after row. So walked down to hesketh Park. Drunks ranting at passers by in the park. 8 police officers arresting someone by the children's cafe. It's so sad. My hometown is an utter mess.

Good memories from when we were kids especially outdoor baths and pleasureland. Pity it's not same now, empty shops, no outdoor pool and poor excuse for a fair. Also beach is like a field, even the tide hardly goes near the place!

Fantastic find. Sad to see how things have changed. I think it's at least 1976 because I spotted two Mk1 Ford Fiestas, there's a white one on the prom as the bus pulls away. Doesn't detract from the value of the film though, excellent stuff. .

Not that long ago but a totally different world - love this on a DVD, Southport holds an important place in my heart, spending time there always rejuvenates me.

Yeah! what's that all about? I left Southport in 2002 and went back to visit a few years later only to see half the beach covered in grass!

Smashing little film this is. I liked seeing Judy the chimp at Southport Zoo. I only remember her as an adult, with Jacky her cohabitee.

Southport might be on the edge of a renaissance. There has been a grant of 40 million given by the government and there are some ambitious plans bandied about regarding future development. A new theatre and venue centre is a go ahead but there's talk of a 900 ft skyscraper development on Lord Street. Build it and they will come, as they say, but that depends on the short sighted council pulling it's finger out and actually having a vision for the future.

Amazing to see Carol Hampson, my god she was beautiful, I'm sure she still is. I was around back then with friends of hers, but she was always out of reach.... :(

Fab memories what a time to be alive life was much safer and so much fun. Before evil governments useless councils wokeness the awful Internet and total control. How grim life is now in comparison.
