In this 1on1 interview, we met up with legendary music producer, Southside of 808 Mafia, also known as Sizzle or Young Sizzle. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and frequently in Miami Florida, Southside is responsible for creating some of the most influential sounds of today’s biggest rappers such as Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, Future, 21 Savage, Young Thug, and G Herbo (just to name a few). After partnering up with fellow Atlanta producer, Lex Luger, the work of 808 Mafia created the genre today known as Trap music. We caught him in LA after a studio session to talk about his top 5 best produced songs (Jersey, Danny Glover, Stick Talk, Quintana Part 2, Company with TM88), making beats with Metro Boomin, IG lives playing beats from fans, Kanye West’s tweets, his experience with having COVID-19, being a fan of Spooky Black, making “Danny Glover” with Young Thug in 30 minutes and how Pyrex Whippa turned from a producer to a rapper (Pyrex even ended up calling Southside the moment we started talking about him).
