Southwest Airlines 737-700 Takeoff from Chicago O’Hare (ORD)

Really excited to have crossed one of the most famous and busiest airports in the world off of my “flown to” list. I do have to say that ORD occupies a nice chunk of the surface of the Earth. The place has a massive footprint. I like that Southwest Airlines uses terminal 5 which is used to many of the international flights. It provides an opportunity to see acft from airlines we don’t see her in north Texas (at DFW Int’l.) Bummer that cloud cover rolled in prior to our departure,robbing me of a nice view of the city on takeoff and climb out. There’s always next time.

Now Southwest Airlines should fly to Dallas Fort Worth and Houston Intercontinental as well.

They actually begin service to IAH on April 12th to select cities. I really do not ever see them utilizing DFW for a host of reason including they’re so close together.

@@AListFlierKris Look at San Francisco and Oakland Airport. Oakland Airport is literally in the departure path of Runway 1R at San Francisco.

@@SYDAirlineEnthusiast I’ve connected through OAK many times in route to/from LGB. The departure route is gorgeous: Turning over the bay and circling around SFO. One time last year going into OAK, runway 30 was closed so they were landing and sending commercial traffic on the 28s. Longest taxi ever. Lol. Been through SFO a few times but I’m not a big fan of it.

Oh cool! Thanks! That's awesome👍 that Southwest Airlines goes to Chicago O'Hare now! That's the main airport I think. I love the snow! Wish it snowed in SoCal!

Yeah ORD is massive. And it was surreal, snow on the ground from Dallas all the way to Lake Michigan. I miss SoCal. Haven’t been out there since September. I fly into Long Beach frequently. (Or used to.)

This was into Dallas Love. Southwest does not have service into DFW Int’l. Dallas Love is my home airport.

This isn't the inaugural is it? I know they just started service there.

The inaugural flights were Sunday Feb 14. I was scheduled on both the first DAL-ORD & ORD-DAL legs but had to cancel since SWA cancelled all flights into Dallas. The first one to ORD flew, but the return flight did not.

Time will tell. Currently the gates are available and fees are lower making it viable even with smaller load factors. I can see it being a good strategy for business travel once it begins to rebound. Same premise applies to Houston which they begin service to IAH in April and the same can loosely be applied to MIA when they began service back in November. In each of the three expansions I mentioned they’re only using a few gates with limited routes. Although did read they’re expanding the service out of MIA. As for ORD, this first week was a bad hand for WN with weather issues and a couple of random mx delays. This flight was delayed almost two hours for both lavs not working.

Yes, they began service on February 14th with service to DAL, PHX, BWI, DEN & BNA.

@@boeing737d yeah, if not originating from one of the five cities mentioned above there’ll be a connection(s). There’s also connecting routes within the original city pairs. I believe later in the spring they’re adding Orlando nonstop and probably more cities along the way depending on how passenger numbers improve. Sort of how they’re doing in MIA, slowly adding nonstop cities after the original 4 they had back in November. What airport are you originating from?

I think they only serve 16 cities currently nonstop from SLC (and the rest are through or connecting flights)
