I was so glad when I found out Jasmine Guy really didn't sound like her character in real life 😂 but there is definitely no one else I could picture playing Whitley Gilbert!
You do know she played in "Harlem Nights" right?? She was Dominque Larue, who tried to kill Eddie's character, Quick after he slept with her. She also played in Spike Lee's School Dayz!!
Y'all that's saying she aged badly... your time is coming. Then people can see what you're going to look like, if you're fortunate to live into older age. She ain't plastic like everyone else in Hollyweird. Stop it.
My Sister Loved Dawnn "Julissa" Lewis And Her Confidence. Dawnn Lewis In Dreamgirls-Jimmy Early's Wife :). Remember How They Played Her Off Hanging With Mr. Cooper? She's Great Though! Remember Her In-I'm Gonna Git You Sucka? Whoo Hoo! Keenan Is So Silly!
Ppl talking about how Jasmine aged. Everybody ages different we don't all stay looking like we did in our 20s, Jasmine still georgous. Ppl who are focusing on her looks are missing the bigger picture. These two are iconic in the community. Their wrk has changed lives. I'm glad to see they are still working & doing projects together. It says a lot about them to be able to keep their longevity in the business & still be relevant generations later.
Tell 'em! What is more, she was older than the age group she was playing. I have a picture with Phylicia Rashad from a set where she was made up to look older and all people can talk about is how much she's aged, forgetting she was 37 when the Cosby Show began and she's 70 now. I hate that women aren't allowed to age and become prisoners of their own youthful beauty where people can't stop comparing them to their younger selves.
A M the reason they're are harping on her aging is because most of the gen that grew up watching her (including myself) haven't come to terms with the fact that we've aged ourselves. She's just a stark reminder to us that many years have passed
A lot of people don't know that Jasmine was almost 30 playing a 18 years old when A Different World first came on...I think she looks her age, but when her makeup is poorly done it does make her look older.
I'll have you all know that Kadeem's Mom is a pioneer in the fashion industry. She was one of the models responsible for the birth of what we now know as Super Models. She was one of the models who turned Paris on its head during a fashion show down between the top 5 fashion houses of the United States and France which is detailed in the documentary "Versailles '73". It was a charity fundraiser to restore the Palace of Versailles yet it was a huge pivotal moment that was the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. The American models comprising primarily of African Americans became the show stoppers that stole the show from the reigning French haute couture designers of the day.
Why all of the unnecessary talk about aging? I'm just happy to see them both alive and well, and reunited on this show, they both look great to me, and I will forever be eternally grateful for the joy that they and the rest of the cast brought into my life, thanks A Different World, you made television viewing for me so much more enjoyable, bravo one and all!
The downside to being an actor in a syndicated show is that people forget they're watching reruns while the actors are aging in real life. Viewers expect actors to look the same but DW was first filmed in 1987.
Jasmine Guy is one of my favorite actresses ever. She’s so underrated it’s funny. My favorite movie is Stomping at the Savoy and her portrayal of Alice makes me cry every time. Love her song “Another Like My Lover” and she moves like a Jackson. Her dance skills are amazing. She has aged but idc she’s awesome. As a little girl my aunt used to record ADW and that’s how I was introduced to Whitley. That pop art painting of Whitley was gorgeous I’m so glad she kept it ❤️
People are so superficial talking about their looks.. They're in their late 40's early 50's. It's refreshing to see them aging gracefully without resorting to plastic surgery, skin bleaching etc like most of their peers.
I remember that gorgeous, ornate classic phone and vintage mirrored vanity set Whitley had! I used to love that fancy pink floral bedding and curtains Whitley had too! She was so bougie with her satin robes! That character is forever my style and interior decor icon.
@@sweetulip2004 I'm not even gonna lie. A couple years ago I went looking for a phone just like that on eBay, then I'm like what year do I think I'm in?! I don't even use a landline anymore! This clip makes me low-key want one just for the look of it :)
Ms. Jasmine is STILL stunning! I remember walking by her in the Atlanta Airport. My heart stopped and my face lit up. She looked at me like she knew I knew who she was but she was like I'm in a rush. I didn't say one word, I just smiled and she smiled back, but kept walking. I was in awe! I wish her the best, but most of all I truly pray she knows and serves the Lord. Then I can hug her in Heaven.
People in here talking about Jasmine Guy looks older... she’s 56 years old... y’all do know a different world went off the air 25 years ago, right. Which means she was already in her 30’s playing a woman in her early 20’s... Keep waking up, you’ll get there too.
Jas was always my favorite on the show! I couldn't wait to watch to see what outfit she was wearing so that I could buy something similar! Remember when she use to call her dude Pookie. Well I tried that with my boyfriend and he was like, "Do NOT call me that!" LMAO.
LOL the fact that he said he got tired of the glasses so he gave them away and The Real, gave it right back to him made me laugh so hard. A Different World was my show growing up, I loved all the iconic scenes, outfits and furniture especially those belonging to Whitley.
I fell in love with Dwayne Wayne because he was such a real person who was able to make the best of a harsh situation no matter who it involved. A very cool dude!
@@sharon21924 Are. You. Serious???? I HAVE Amazon prime but I didn't know that I was able to watch this show! Omggg... thanks! Better than nothing!!!! 😀👍🏼❤
Jasmine was a totally underrated R&B artist she was a triple threat baby and she should have gained Janet Jackson status thats how good she was man ...I still listen to her music and look at her videos til this day
Oh my gossshh!! This show was and is STILL everything!! There were so many great guest appearances and important messages that are still prevalent today. I loved the uniqueness and strength that each and every character had. We NEED something along these lines again. There are so many issues facing the black community and it would be great to see a show that shows young black people working through these issues in a healthy and constructive way. I loved A Different World for this. I am just so happy to see these two! I'll never forget that "Baby PLEASE!" at Whitley's wedding. You better get your girl! Yes!! ❤️💖😄😁
I'm in college now and it's a different world literally helped me with life. It shaped me up! It truly helped. I plan on buying the seasons on Amazon, & give it to my future children..when they're heading to college
@@weareallinthis3668 many of their episodes discussed, racism, hbcu, jealousy, relationships, cheating in relationships, and discussing being rich and poor, discussing how whitleys mom wanted her to be perfect & she kept trying to live to her moms standards but kept feeling lost (related to me so damn much) and a lot more. Its definitely worth the watch for each episode however season one was WACK ijs.
SunKissNicole thanks 4 the insight, appreciate the reply back. i never got into this show, but i’ll give it a shot. long story short basically, i been living under a rock.
Remember the song by Chante' Moore? Chante's got a man at home? Chile she was singing abt Kadeem. They broke up but they have a daughter. He was nerd sexy 👓
What a great show. The cast was marvelous. Their chemistry made perfect productions and presentations. I still like watching A Different World. I graduated college a few years before the show aired but its many positive messages and stories resounds in my life to this day. The title song alone bears the truest message of all; college IS "a different world from where you come. Here's your CHANCE to make it if you focus on your goals. [If] you can dish it, you can take. Just remember, you've been told. It's a different world, yes, than where you come from!" True on every level. I wanted so much to be a part of that cast. I still do. It was just that impressive and powerful. Thank you for posting this cast story.
In reference to Jasmine looking older, she was born in 1962 which means she actually baby boom generation. Although she played a college freshman on different world starting she was already about 25,and 30 when the show ended. So this might help in understanding her older look now. Some people might have thought she was younger during different world. /she is currently about 57 I"m thinking.
...And most Black women don't start out with Guy's or Bonet's spectacular beauty in their youth. It's impossible for those type of women to hold on to that crowd pleasing beauty and YOUTHFUL look that God blessed them with...as they age.
That's awesome to see them both... Lots of great memories, and great inspiration for many black kids... Thanks to Mr Cosby too regardless of his accusations... This is awesome.
OMGGGG I ALWAYS wanted a reboot for this series and for me to play Freddie! She has inspired me in so many ways and I remember doing the big chop and embracing my curls like her Cree Summer is my IDOL. I dreamed of being a voice actress too
Many people probably look like her but got face lifts I applaud her in settling in her natural aging process, we see so much fake on tv we don't know what real aging looks like there are people who do age with more youthful look but the plastic surgery of Hollywood makes it hard to know how people are truly aging.
+1990758 it depends on the woman some women need it not all can get by with the soap and water look they need a little help i don't mean they have to look like a circus clown but they don't have to a plan jane ether
Different World, Living Single, Later Girlfriends & 1/2 and 1/2 were like comfort food. It was so nice- seeing people who look like me on the TV screen... I hope Kadeem & Jasmine know they greatly affected a lot of folks.
They didn't age badly, They Aged Without plastic surgery something this world is not used to... they look beautiful Jasmine & Lisa Bonet! You watch their shows from over 30 years ago and expect them to look the same smh... They are beautiful Women!!
@@latoyafisher7900 why is she being compared though. Everyone has to age it can not be escaped. Jasmine is much smaller as well if she gained weight her face would be fuller and her age might not show as much but then ppl would say she was fat because she has always be thin. It’s never a win in society. She looks great to me.
People don't really say nice things on the internet you can't be surprised when you meet someone for the first time what do they do they look you up and down
This series came out when I was in high school and when I went to college I wanted his saddlebag so bad! Could never find one at the time. I’d still rock it tbh.
