New Zealand First Deputy Leader Shane Jones calls out elite Iwi activists who are attempting to minimise the democratic mandate given to the government, saying "Sovereignty Rests With The Voters Of New Zealand Not With Iwi"
Ah the netballer trying and failing to deliberately stir up the natives and plastic maori where there is nothing to see yet. Let maori get their thoughts together logically and rationally and put a proposition for discussion. Stop all this threatening and bullying and incendiary rhetoric. We need an adult conversation not cultural theatre singing dancing and shouting in te reo.
Agree , they are an embarrassment , refuse to watch their woke rubbish, they might still be wondering why they are loosing money, why do they need 4 people to push their daily garbage I can't fathom. There is a more and more used saying lately,go woke go broke! @antonyarnanova
The minority. About 1% of the population can't handle, Working for a living. Same in happening in Australia. It's everyone else's fault.....lol Without the European here. Maori of the time. Would have Eliminated each other. Which was our mistake. Now we have to put up with the blaming, Separatism, racism pushed everyday. Can the Maori blooded people, live in the bush....? NO. Be bloody grateful
I like how Winston Peters pointed out in Parliament, that the Maori Party were not the voice of Maori as only 1 in 6 Maori voters voted for them. So, I like the other 5 in 6 voted against the 1 in 6 separatists who's only task is feather their own nest. Not all Maori or New Zealanders
Shouldn't have to go to the vote had already been voted when treaty had been signed should be smooth transition these clowns against crowns obligation to fulfill treaty where now government stand as the rejectors of a lawful binding document❤🎉
Shane Schwab endorsed voters, you'll probably vote for his twin brother Klaus Jones yea. Well hope you'll be happy when you'll own nothing! The reset twins!
We are over it my grandfather fought for our freedom as a gunner and mechanical engineer in the RNZAF. 7 years on and off he was seperate from my grandmothe. I was born here my mother was my grandparents were. It is our nation.Enough bludging we are over it. Winston and Shane can call it as they are Māori. We will not be divided and fall for the “divide and.conquer.
Validating yourself with the achievements of your grandfather is pathetic and gives you no right for anything. What have you done other than fill your pockets?
@badchefi explain full your pockets....? Most people are born in NZ. Get educated, then have a job to live. Don't cry, and blame everyone else for the crimes, the poverty that the minority do everyday. I was brought up in Rotorua. All my Maori blooded school mates, are successful with there life. What's your problem?
@@neilmarshall5087 woke is Not the oppression of black people its an expression of any people black white brown gay transgender and anybody who havent got a life and use it as a rasist or sexist view to prove a point of opinion.
Yes it did, you're right 👍 However that was the english translation which we now know to be well basically full of shit! Lies! Now Dyor and have a great day 😂
Hear their concerns? How about them hearing our concerns. Its not a one way street, like they want it to be. Shane is absolutely right. We, the people want to be one people, where we all respect each others culture and rights.
I lived through civil war caused by politicians pushing separation on ethnicity grounds. Why? Only for personal benefit. Don't wont to see that again! Shane keep doing as we feel to be uniting our people, not the opposite.
Shane clarifies things well, it so weird how the opposition just change the actual facts into a twisted mess off assumptions and allegations that are totally unfounded mistruths
Read the Maori version of the Tiriti, understand that document, then you may have an idea of why he's lost credibility in Maoridom throughout the Motu!
@@lancedonald6070 it is a concern that this poor grasp of english will continue to plague any discussion. I now understand all the shouting, bullying, threatening from the natives with the singing dancing in te reo. They are scared of an open respectfull discussion and dialogue in well structured sophisticated english which has much experience in international contracts.
According to our founding constitution, Maori are sovereign, therefore we wouldn't be on your electorate because we aren't governed by it. You either honour the founding documents that our ancestors put in place with strength and integrity or declare war once again.
@@mattwill2643 Article 1 (Waitangi Tribunal translation ) - "give absolutely to the Queen of England for ever the complete government over their land" (Kawanatanga). Article 2 relating to rangatiratanga applied to all land that Maori decided to retain rather than sell to the Crown. I own Maori land so I guess I have 'chieftainship/rangatiratanga' over that. I don't see any shared governance or co-governance in either the Maori or English version of the treaty.
@@food4thort the english version is completely different to the maori version, and wherever there is a descrepency in the translations of treatys, it's always the indigenous version that is recognised internationally. This is common knowledge mate, catch up.
The purpose of the treaty was to bring order to the settlors who were savages, so that we could continue to live in peace. We had internationally recognised sovereignty which we obtained less than a decade before the treaty, (HE-WHAKAPUTANGA) that was un-repealable so long as we looked after british settlirs.. Dont try and tell me we'd achieve all that and then sign it all away a few years later. We weren't fkng stupid.
No it doesn't! 550 chiefs signed Te Tiriti o Waitangi not the treaty of Waitangi...have you been living under a rock. Our forefathers never ceded sovereignty...If they did why has it been through the courts for decades. Why is there a Waitangi Tribunal...why do iwi get millions of dollars worth of payments...some still not settled...Because our ancestors never ceded sovereignty that's why!
@@CatherineAugust Why did the chiefs at Kohimarama conference confirm that they did cede? Why did Sir Apirana Ngata confirm in his book that the chiefs ceded? The reason its been all through the courts in the last 40yrs is because of those principles that Geoffrey Palmer invented. The reason there have been payouts is because there were legitimate land claims, nobody with a rational brain is arguing that. Claims about airwaves, seabed and rain are bullshit invented by corrupt greedy men.
@@JamesClark-cg1qk that's not the correct version is the point...anyway my home that's being built in Auckland due to our iwi never ceding sovereignty and owning the 3rd biggest power station in Aotearoa is almost ready...When the Auckland anniversary floods happened last year my iwi freely put $300 in my bank just because thats what they do a long with the scholarships cheap dental and health care..the money will never run out and that is the benefit of being Māori and not ceding sovereignty go have a cry with your delusions and incorrect version of Te Tiriti o Waitangi 🤣 BTW I'm 36 started working at 17 and have been on the benefit for a total of 4 months due to being made redundant when I was 19...so don't even go there lol
when u blow $2.4 billion in settlement money and then come back for more and as for old kingi.... his own family is a shambles and he's telling the country what to do... gtfo
50k went to the Parliament occupation and were called a river of filth, completely ignored then ransacked by police. Maori have such extraordinary privilege!
10,000?.. i think thats exaggerated as I watched the hui in it's entirety and if 10,000 were present they must of been hiding in the neighbouring buildings..
More like half that number turned up,TV1 and their Woke agendas. No taxpayers money should be given to these bastards, let them stand on their own two feet.
Yeah they are happy to lie about their numbers unlike when we were fighting for our lives during Covid from government tyranny they could only say a couple of hundred . They are liars .
One thing is for certain, no-one knows what the treaty means. I am glad the coalition government is going to tackle this prickly subject and put 'interpretations' to rest.
I agree. J Cook arrived 250 years ago on a Naval mission. He was amazing based on the unknown behaviours he met. He also was a great hydrographic surveyor by the way = safety of navigation. So if the UK did not claim NZ then the French would have done it 2 weeks later. Would the French have been as understanding?
That ex netball player is an absolute shocker , and they wonder why they they are loosing money and going down the gurgler.Cant see this Govt handing them millions to keep them afloat as Labour did.
The woman is speaking a sentence in English. Why is it necessary for her to introduce motu into it. There's a perfectly good English word that should have been used.
Where is the pressure mounting? lol. This govt is a pressure release. Why would anyone be worried about 100% equal democratic participation? Why is a referendum a bad thing? Most importantly, if we are not to have this kind of democratic discussion, then what is the proposed alternative & who defines this?
Karl Popper- "No freedom for the enemies of freedom". (book - The Open Society and its Enemies). His response to the rise of facism in Germany, and how to recognse it and stop it occurring again.
Wow - that interviewer has a very defined set of left wing views and tries her best to corner Shane. Maybe the hui was significant for the few thousand that turned up (so was the Foo Fighters concerts the same day for those 30,000 people). Also can the interviewer speak english properly? She cant speak correct english eg she says 'wanna' instead of 'want to' way too many times.
All my life, The Treaty of Waitangi has meant nothing to me and never will.WHY, because in the last 40 years it been open to so much interpretation by so many so called experts and Maori activists high jacking the day.Just a waste of time.As far as I am concerned Waitangi Day is just another unwanted public holiday.
Since when do we have to ask Maori to go for a fish? Who's running the country ? Get tuff on crime and those that are inciting reverse racism and breaking the law ....
All of us a sick of it. Ultimately we need to shred the outdated treaty and rewrite it. Hui happens in Wellington Jenny, in the government buildings, not some backwater marae in timbuktu.
Well said Shane ! you are a force to be reckoned with....yes there is too much interference from Maoridom radicals .. Unfortunately you can blame labour for the unrest ..they spoiled the Maori ...now with a change of Government the gravy train has slowed down ...and the radicals not like it! We are all equal here regardless ..why should the Maori be singled out for special treatment...we are all special no matter what colour...
Far cup! I am Māori so please tell me where I was spoilt again whilst labour was in govt? Far Kim muppet you are, I’m special and proud to be Māori, very few of us Māori in the world. So don’t say we are all the same regardless of colour.
Interesting that certain iwi are scared of even discussing issues. There view is they are the only ones that know what the treaty means and they will tell the rest if us! Well sorry the treaty was signed by Iwi and Hapu with a major world power in the hope of bring some stability to a land of murder violence slavery. Whalers of all nations ran riot in NZ. The hell hoke of the pacific. Maori did not sign as an entity they signed as individual Iwi Hapu. The treaty is part of history. The modern relevance needs discussion and agreement by all NZs All the new government has said Is that we meed a discussion. You would think the sky was falling!!!! .
Same in Fiji, people were living up the hills ,afraid of raiding parties, they welcomed the arriving 'peacemakers' and moved back down to the coast.@@paperclip612
Glad to have it clarified that the Government has no intention to change or alter the Treaty in any way. What are the origins of the leak? If the document has not yet been seen or discussed by cabinet, it does not represent the intentions of the government on this issue. It has however, very mischievously stirred up a lot of fear and unrest amongst many people. It would certainly serve the interests of the opposition to fuel those fears and concerns, but it would also be shamelessly exploitative.
Sadly, the majority of the 'public servants' who work at Parliament hate this govt and will do all sorts to undermine it. This will be some snot nosed pink haired white non-binary condescending individual with a Messiah complex pretending to be a whistleblower, stealing a draft written by one of their colleagues. It's likely to have not had the eyes of even one Minister upon it. Just some prick trying to stir up division.
It would also serve as a huge distraction for a newly formed government implementing it's mandates. 50 key supermarkets to have facial recognition installed, "just a trial", for instance of left hand /right hand.
Just because you put emphasis on the words when you say 'T E N T H O U S A N D M O A R I ' does not make the number seem bigger when its less than 1.2% of the total Māori population in New Zealand, especially when the huia (moan session) is held in a town with over 7k Māori right there living. Te Pati Māori would have you think it's a massive revolt against the government and a clear sign they are not listening to the 'people' .19% of the total population of 5.2 million. Give me a break, there are many concerts in Auckland sold out within days most tickets costing hundreds of dollars each that gets 10x the amount of attention.
Would be good if J.May didn't try a twist the facts and force her points of view onto all. The fact that it was an iwi meeting means iwi.. not government. Government is elected .. iwi are a group and can do what ever they want. Now difference to a group of Kiwi having a BBQ. We wouldn't expect government to turn up to that. What she should be asking is who leaked the document. I want to see a "Bill" introduced to throw anybody who leaks government documents should be thrown in jail.
Jenny May there aren't 3 principles there are 3 articles. Shane told you the principles were introduced in 1975 and are organic and can be shifted and reinterpreted at the pleasure of Maori ad infinitum
@robintamihere4550 When the principles of the treaty were first mentioned in legislation in 1975, one member of Parliament predicted that they would create ‘debate, dissension and even divisiveness’ in New Zealand.2 Indeed, the principles of the treaty have been, and continue to be, the subject of debate. On one From Google
Co goverenence isn’t in the treaty document but the Māoris had no issues with that . Either was Maori control of water etc etc . The bottom line is the Māoris have had their paddle taken from them and their nonsense is dead in the water and so when they don’t get what they want then their default setting is to call the government racist 😂😂
The Maoris are getting all crazy about What No one is saying the treaty is gone.People . All people of N Z just want to Know WHAT DO YOU MAORI WANT.Becose no one else knows. And that is were the conversation needs to be had. But Maori' are Being completely unreasonable.
How many times does TV1 have to be told that National won't support the bill after the first reading? Is there something in the education of TV1 broadcasters that they don't understand English. The bill is dead in the water.
It almost appears that certain elements DONT want the Treaty enshrined in any legislation or review for that would mean it cant be amended or altered to suit future situations.
Tell the fellas to discipline their own peoples behaviour rather than trying to teach government what to do these fellas are not elected by anyone just displaying ignorance 😂
Sovereignty was sorted out in 1840. End of story. The Chiefs of the Confederation of the United Tribes of New Zealand and the separate and independent Chiefs who have not become members of the Confederation CEDE to Her Majesty the Queen of England absolutely and without reservation all the rights and powers of SOVEREIGNTY which the said Confederation or Individual Chiefs respectively exercise or possess, or may be supposed to exercise or to possess over their respective Territories as the sole sovereigns thereof. Main stream woke media needs to be defunded.
@robintamihere4550 The first The Chiefs of the Confederation and all the Chiefs who have not joined that Confederation give absolutely to the Queen of England for ever the complete government over their land. SOURCE waitangitribunal.GOV
The Treaty of Waitangi was supposed to unite us but certain Māori voices are now having the opposite effect. No one understands what they want and I suspect they don't either. Maybe they want independence and sovereignty and half the countries tax take? Maybe they want the rivers and lakes and every drop of water that falls from the sky?
Her questions couldn't be more loaded if she tried. "The Sovereignty rests with the voters of New Zealand". This is the crux of the matter and Maori activists will learn this the hard way.
Thank ýou Shane. The people have voted, end of. Most of us are sick and tired of the beginning of every year hearing from the disgruntled few Maori radicals and their supporters. Thank goodness Democracy is to be upheld by this coalition Government. We hear that Maori are 17% of the vote and 2% of those 17% voted for the Maori Party. Therefore 83% ( or the majority) of the voting public voted for this coalition Govt with their stance on treating every NZerequally, all treated the same and not 17% being an exception to the rule ! Thank you to the coalition Govt for having no biased policy, the majority support you.
Why the maori gp do not focus on how to improve the education, poverty , health of its people? It is time maori gp changes its tactics by looking at the real issues of its people.
The Treaty has ARTICLES not "principles". As to whether New Zealand exists? Or is new zealand only the Ross dependency as defined in Statute. Magna Carta applies to all people.
King Tainui isn't recognised on the Central Plateau. We watched both boat people arrive from the sea then forge a Treaty without us. Throw the bullshit Treaty down the shit house.
In Article 1 of the Treaty (in whichever language) the Maori chiefs and the people they represent cede all sovereignty and authority to the Crown. There should be no question of where authority rests.
Significant if your maori Just a bunch of wingers if your not 1 man(or women ) I vote equality under the law . Sick and tired of all this wineing maori rights are the same as any other citizen.
Well said Shane Jones, but seems if you weren't Maori you would have been slammed for those comments. There is a racist undertone and it's the opposite to what MSM are portraying. No one is allowed to say anything without being called racist unless you are Maori.
By its own admission, The Waitangi Tribunal states the Treaty principles are 'ever evolving and changing' and that is the issue that should be discussed...
