@Galaxy Boomers X Mikhail Gorbachev wasn't General Secretary at the time, however, he was still a highly ranked official. In terms of Nikolai Ryzhkov, he was a member of the Politburo at the time, but he didn't rise in rank to replace Tikhonov as Chairman of the Council of Ministers until 1985.
There is one mistake that you made. Nikolai ogarkov was ousted from his position 2 months prior to the parade.the man who you think is ogarkov,but isn't,is Sergey Akhromeyev,who was ogarkov's successor.

@@Kpoole35 almost each ethnicity (even as small as 50k people) had their own republic in USSR (and today in post Soviet statea) so they were and still called nationalities, every ethnicity corresponded to its republic. Today Russian speaking countries still use word nationality as ethnicity
