I have the Soviet Paratrooper style canteen I found to be very useful when I road trip during the fall around October to cook Ramen noodles or heat up caned Campbell's Soup or heat up water using a propane or butane stove when traveling. Before using the Soviet Paratrooper canteen I have used the German or east German Mess Kit which works fine in every road trip adventure. Fellow road trip tourists seen what I did and started asking me questions about my German Mess Kit and my Soviet Paratrooper Canteen? I was just a US infantryman and a Paratrooper and we only used our stainless steel canteen cup for everything, even that caused many onlookers to adopt this method because no one has ever taught them how to use these things even though they have been around for over a hundred years and communicate with me on Facebook as they start to learn more. Yes the Soviet Paratrooper canteen really works good for me.
The Chinese M78 canteen is also based on the 50s version of Soviet airborne canteen. The difference is there's a lip that can cover the top of mess kit tightly. Also the cap of canteen is attached by a nylon rope, instead of a metal chain
Chinese canteen’s design is very different and it’s pot is closer to American, than to Soviet. I don’t think it was inspired by Soviet, more likely both Soviet and Chinese canteens are based on the American canteen and this is where all similar come from.
Damn, now I know a bit more about soviet canteens😂 thanks for the video ! One question, Where's the T-shirt from ? Couldn't find anything from "urban tactical"
Can you do a video about soviet general equipment like higiene, food racions, sleping gear, and general stuff that you would have in your backpack, it would be really cool to see bc theres not much informacion on the internet
Funny thing I just thought about, isn't aluminum toxic to drink and eat out of? Did they miss that detail at the time or am I wrong somewhat? I heard older canteens like that are definitely collectibles only for that reason if made out of certain materials?
Lately I also heard a lot of things about toxic aluminum, but 1st this canteens and mess hits were made of food grade aluminum, and secondly, in my childhood in Ukraine we used to eat with aluminum spoons, drinks and food in school and children garden was cooked in the aluminum pots, in the military school and military academy I used to drink from military canteen and even now I am doing it on the Airsoft. My parents and grandparents went through the same thing in the Soviet Uniton and all of us are still healthy, so I guess it really based on the aluminum grade, or perhaps it is common, American overreaction. I, personally, trust in Soviet science and medical institutes, so if they say it is healthy enough for kids and adults, then it is.
Fair enough thank you for the info, personal experience and clarification! I wanted to eventually collect canteens myself and knew what precautions to take incase I dare to take a swig from one.@@RedIvanMilitaryEng
@@Callsign_Ewok sure, happy to help, I like suck discussions. In Vinos virutas. Actually if you won’t plan to collect stuff earlier than WWII, prices are pretty ok, especially for the eastern stuff, so go for it.
@@RedIvanMilitaryEng фляги окисляются со временем и алюминий крошится. Можно в неё спирт залить и подержать там подольше, тогда вроде будет нормально. Но лучше такими флягами не пользоваться.
